I don't blame Eavis, he owns quite a lot of property now
He used to be a poor farmer too. I heard a rumour Greenpeace funded the festival at the start in order to be able to set up there and tout for donations. Via Greenpeace Entertainments.
Longleat should be less muddy.

Generally though he puts on quite a show, he turns up on time and doesn't waste half the time on costume changes!

Glastonbury Festival, by razorwire on Jun 9, 2016 13:46:22 GMT 1, It's a lot of money but not overpriced, especially when you compare it to gig prices and pretty much every other festival these days - Reading, Leeds, and all the other big festivals are a similar price and you get a hell of a lot more for your money at Glastonbury over the 5 days than you do anywhere else. We got to a lot of small festivals and even they are pricey these days - I've just come back from Lunar just outside Birmingham and even that was ยฃ119 for 3 days of acts on two stages. Even my absolute favourite festival in the UK, Supernormal, is 80 odd quid now and many of the other small 500-2000 capacity ones like I am fond of have are around the ยฃ100 mark. There's exceptions obviously but it's just a fact that in general festivals are getting very pricey.
I think it's also important to appreciate how the festival has improved over the years since the superfence stopped everyone getting in free, and even in the last decade or so it's come on so much that many parts of it are completely unrecognisable. It's now a lot more than just the standard 'bands in circus tents' you get elsewhere. I love all the newer additions and the structures in Block 9, Unfairground, The Temple etc are all still mindblowing each year.

Glastonbury Festival, by t3c on Jun 9, 2016 14:16:20 GMT 1, 1994 & 1995 were 2 amazing years at Glastonbury (Orbital, Prodigy, Carl Cox, Autechre, Plastikman so many more) and i loved the lawless element that once accompanied the festival. Sadly it's too sterile for me now and has lost it's edge somewhat. I understand why they got in Mean Fiddler to ring fence it back in 2001? 2002? but the travelling element being predominantly missing for a good 16 years now killed it for me. they made the festival what it was but times change i guess,
Still, i look back on the years i went with big smile. I had some of the best times in my life at that festival. It really is a special place and if you never get to go to current site i would recommend doing so before they move

Have to agree .... Been going since 87 (only missed a few). It's changed, but the vibe is still there . The last few years before the 'super fence ' we're getting more and more awful . There was so much bloody thieving ....
Orbital in '94 (I think) still my fave moment

Glastonbury Festival, by alexdb on Jun 9, 2016 20:44:09 GMT 1, Well what do you expect? That Glastonbury won't change and that the rest of the world will go further? You can't compare things with the past. I have been going to festivals since the early 90's and yes it was different back then, but ten years ago was different as well. Its just the time you are living in now.
A three day festival in Netherlands will cost 200 euros so for five days at Glastonbury GBP 228 is some money but not expensive compared with the rest of the festivals. Its worth the cost, and since I come from the netherlands, I have to make my travel expenses to Glastonbury as well.

Glastonbury Festival, by razorwire on Jun 11, 2016 10:28:36 GMT 1, I'll be there too, can't wait although I'm slightly apprehensive about the weather after seeing footage from Download this weekend - it gave me flashbacks to 2005 when we woke up to find a small river running through our tent and all our clothes, phones, food etc floating about. Still, nothing you can do about that but just crack on and drink your way through it...

I was there that year. Rivers popped up everywhere. I remember there was one big one separating tents from the rest of the festival. We woke up to find tents to the left and to the right of us washed away. Never been so wet! My ex and I used to go every year. We stopped the year that we were turned away from lost vagueness as it was full! It just seemed to have got too big. For us, anyway.
