Glastonbury Festival, by Prescription Art on Apr 8, 2008 13:26:47 GMT 1, I've been to Glastonbury maybe 11 times? But I don't think i'll bother again. The weather is a pisser but quickly forgotten... it's the fact that it's turned more & more into Reading en Mud. I mean confiscating weed?! No lost vagueness!? No late night soundsystems. No crusties, no drugs & no naked hippies. They've completely lost the plot.

Glastonbury Festival, by They call me Stephen on Apr 8, 2008 14:15:21 GMT 1, yup...the lost vagueness organisers and the eavis' have parted ways.
glastonbury is good but i dont think it's deserving of the high 'mythical' status it has....as prescriptionart said it's no more than a reading en mud and i like neither!! my 2 cents anyway

Glastonbury Festival, by They call me Stephen on Apr 8, 2008 14:34:27 GMT 1, Bestival is amazing....in my opinion mile better than Latitude and that was superb last year.
All the food stalls, markets etc etc are hand picked by Rob da Bank and his wife so there's no dodgy burgers or noodles and the selection of bands is spot on. There's a load of nice places to relax during the day and the isle of wight WI selling home made cakes and tea at super cheap prices.
The fact it's on the isle of wight make the whole festival feel like it's a million miles away from reality...perfect.
Oh....the line up is also pretty spot on

That's what I'm thinking. In fact I've made the decision to get a refund for my ticket and am using the 3 days holiday I'd need for Glasto to go to Camdobia instead. I can get enthusiastic about that.

sounds good to me apart from the drugs thing. all they need to do now is tarmac over the whole site to stop people from getting muddy.

Glastonbury Festival, by Deleted on Apr 11, 2008 7:23:23 GMT 1, i think that glastonbury has lost its appeal since that huge fence and generally tighter security. i cant tell you how much i used to love going and fence jumping each year. although not one to be dancing naked around the stone circle at 5am whilst chewing more magic mushrooms, i cant help feeling that was part of what made the festival so good. the last time i went, was the first time i had to buy a ticket(which was teh first year of the super fence). although the was very little thefts, there wasnt any crazyiness either. i would rather have my tent robbed and have the naked dancing back any day. however, you did feel like you could leave stuff in your tent and there was a good chance it would still be there when you got back.

Glastonbury Festival, by discoduster on Apr 11, 2008 8:04:07 GMT 1, I've probably been to Glastonbury every year it was on since I was 5 as I grew up in Pilton..
But this year is the first where i just don't think I can be bothered. It's not the line up I just don't think I can handle another wet one.
When it's hot it's unbeatable but when it's raining it just makes it all rather tiresome. Last year I was living in Wells and it took me exactly 20 mins to get from my living room to be stood in the Pyramid field so I kept nipping back to change and sleep but I still thought Fcuk this next year.
Statistically Its gonna be a hot one this year and if I gt offered a cheap local ticket nearer the time I may go but at the moment Rage Against The Machine and Metallica at Reading are looking a much more attractive offer.

Glastonbury Festival, by benya on Apr 28, 2008 18:00:24 GMT 1, Personally I'm a bit over Glastonbury's arrogance of not announcing the full line-up before the ticket release. It may have been alright years ago but now that there is so much quality competition in the form of large festivals I think they need to pull their heads out of their arses........
I didn't bother with tickets this year as from what I knew of the line-up I thought it was extremely weak

Glastonbury Festival, by GD303uk on Apr 28, 2008 18:08:21 GMT 1, ive never gone for the music, when i first went in the eighties i hardly knew any of the bands, on the main stage or any of the others, and for me it only gets worse with the bigger pop names playin' just my thoughts each to their own an all , where have all the crusty hippies gone? Bestival, maybe.

Glastonbury Festival, by They call me Stephen on Apr 28, 2008 18:16:53 GMT 1, Very poor line-up...not fussed by that at all.
As GD303uk said Glastonbury used to be more than the line-up but with the Lost Vagueness people parting company with Glastonbury and Radio1 pushing it more and more into the main stream the whole thing has become far too comercial for many people's liking. (My two cents anyway)
Come to bestival GD303uk

I thought that Portishead would have made an appearance (obviously they still might).
Other than The Raconteurs, Massive Attack, Spiritualised, Leonard Cohen, Goldfrapp, Seasick Steve and The Black Keys, the rest are trash. I understand Mr Doherty is headlining The Park stage, which I'm very happy about.
