COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Shoeless on Sept 17, 2019 14:49:49 GMT 1, I think the increases in price i.e. Harland Miller at £15,000 as opposed to £7,500 are because for some there were pre- pre-sales, just saying. The pre-sales were for the portfolios, they claim to not have sold any individual Millers. They said it was to stop flippers.
Yet, they had it listed for $8k with an ‘Enquire’ button.
Seems maybe they wanted to gauge interest and try to double the price with that.

It's probably for the best as my money really need spending on a new kitchen and not more art that i don't have space to hang.

It seems like output is constant and there’s release after release week after week for MUST HAVE $2500 prints by living artists who crank out editions and who will have another release a month or two from now. This just feels like an all out money grab not by just CE but damn near every gallery. People spending this kind of coin obviously have disposable income, but maybe not so much as to buy an original by the same artist? That would describe myself. If you love the work by all means buy it and hang it on the wall but as someone who’s casually collecting only the odd piece here and there, this whole thing looks like madness.
Anyway, back to work.

Agreed. It's gone crazy.
The Case Studyo, Counter Editions and Avant Arte model for releasing high price editions, with the illusion of exclusivity, VIP access, Instagram influencers, Hype Beasts, etc, is all getting a bit much.
It's like the sneaker scene. There is literally a new "must have" every few days. OK, if you have deep pockets!
My new tactic is to aim for originals if I can afford them, and only prints from artists I can't afford, or artists I'm just speculating on (and I know "speculating" makes it sound ugly, but it's true!  )... and those need to be in the £50-£250 range.
