COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Express Post on Sept 22, 2019 6:51:00 GMT 1, Cheers for doing the research. I can see where you are coming from. Since this is a widely documented release, odds are that these initials are the real deal. I'd back them.
Again, I like the print. There's nothing wrong with buying this print. Decide on your own. Books and Originals New Print

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Horatio Nelson on Sept 22, 2019 13:19:57 GMT 1, There are two aspects to this:
1) Putting aside the particular circumstances of this artist, I do think that any gallery selling a work with initials on a sticker, rather than a signature on the paper of the work itself, should have been a bit clearer upfront about the nature of signature. This is not only because it is the done thing when buyers are spending £thousands on artwork, but because of combination of the tiered pricing structure and online sale platform where buyers are incentivised / pressurised to buy early, and without sight of the work. I’m sure it was oversight by CE rather than anything untoward.
2) If I were a genuine collector of JP (or had been waiting a while to push the button on my first print by JP), I wouldn’t mind so much about the sticker issue so long as it were made clear upfront (and in truth I wouldn’t be too distraught if i had bought on the mistaken assumption of a signature on the paper. This release is well documented, I don’t think anyone doubt the authenticity. It won’t have much of an effect of resale given that CE essentially sets the market price anyway...

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Express Post on Sept 22, 2019 13:29:40 GMT 1, If I recall David Shrigley signed DS on his prints and D Shrig in his books and Christmas wrapping paper.
Opie signed a book, but the accompanying lenticular was unsigned.
None of the above seemed to bother collectors.

Quite - tbh I’ve never even looked at the signature on the back of my big Shrigley (Rampage). And ironically, the “Certificate of Human Status” for about 10% of the price that he also did last year is signed “David Shrigley” on the front.

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Deleted on Sept 22, 2019 14:26:35 GMT 1, I’m not going to mention the company or the artist but I did purchase a skate deck set from an artist who had recently passed away. I noticed the signature on the boards were very different than on his works. After asking this, well known, company many times - they finally admitted they had signed the boards themselves since the artist and the company had agreed prior to the unfortunate situation for the that artist.
This is a different situation but has the same red flags I saw on those decks. If it doesn’t bother you then go ahead as I mentioned. If you already bought it; be happy. It’s just, you can say all you want about other artist signing different styles but she is not young like invader or Retna to start making new types of very clean signatures that late in life. Nor has anyone offered a photo of a different or similar style signature in her entire career.
I have had the unfortunate experience of going to hospitals many times to see family members sick or pass away. It would be hard for me to think a) have this person sign 125 sticks while they are sick at a hospital b) also think a person - this sick or ill - could sign such a clean NEW style of signature; who is of that age as well. The new signature is EXTREMELY CLEAN compared to anything she has done. Also many of you said she had already completed this project a while a go so a photo of her at their studio or her studio signing sticks isn’t such a horrible thing to ask.
Again, it’s ok if she didn’t actually sign it but it should be mentioned. No matter what the situation. It just bothered me later on finding out the artist didn’t actually sign the decks, after purchasing it, thinking it was. So if it doesn’t matter to you. No one is stopping anyone for purchasing this print.

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Deleted on Sept 22, 2019 15:06:44 GMT 1, This way out of left field for most of you but.... Babe Ruth (i know what...) had his wife, secretary and everyone else sign his stuff while he was alive due to his demand at the time. It wasn't meant to fool anyone but does it matter... yes.
This well known in the sports world and I know while the two are not the same. It always matters if the person actually signed the piece or not. If it's shown that there is good evidence they didn't... then there is a problem.
You can read the Babe Ruth situation here. It was as official as you can get. This applies to everything and this situation as well.
www.forbes.com/sites/davidseideman/2015/01/15/solving-the-mystery-of-a-family-letter-signed-by-babe-ruth/#66070a293b4d
"Going through his great aunt’s papers years ago, he told me that he came across a letter to her and her family from Babe Ruth written in 1947 while he was in the hospital fighting the cancer that would claim his life the following year."
"In their opinion, Howard’s Babe Ruth is a “secretarial” or is “ghost signed.” There was no intention to deceive, merely keep up with the overwhelming demand. In this case, given the mail bags of letters Ruth was surely receiving every day, he probably designated his nurse or his secretary to sign for him. “I don’t think it’s a stamp,” Evans says. “I think it’s just a very clean looking secretarial. This looks like a one of a kind letter in the content.” Since it was vintage Babe Ruth material, Evans estimated its worth to still be from $300 to $500, though he declined to buy or sell it in one of his auctions. He didn’t want an unscrupulous buyer passing it off as genuine."

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by Poster Bob on Sept 25, 2019 13:33:38 GMT 1, When the Miller prints went up you could add five to the cart. A few hours later you could only add one. I can't be sure, but I think that was the amount to be sold before the next price increment kicked in. Applying this loose logic means they have yet to sell five at the current asking price 🤣

COUNTER EDITIONS UPCOMING PORTFOLIO RELEASE, by trapnel1 on Dec 15, 2019 14:27:07 GMT 1, Appreciate for most forum members this charity portfolio release was a disaster and people felt prices were too high and they couldn't get what they want. I can't change any of that but I have a few of the release now framed and on my wall after teaming up with a friend for a set. It also meant we have some of the prints now sat around in a folder and so I thought I would see if there was any interest in perhaps London-based members(or nearby) picking one up at heavily discounted prices ahead of Christmas. Maybe one would make a good present for someone. These are priced below my cost (although I appreciate I got some other nice prints too). Prints are: FREE – Antony Gormley £2000 Singing In The Rain – Rose Wylie £1400 Giant Pandas – Rob Pruitt £1100 If I am off on pricing and these were cheaper on first release apologies, I have listed them like this with a view to give 10% of sales to Save The Children. Anyone interested I am in London SE5, look forward to some PMs and optimistically I would like to find these a home this week...
Seems like a great price on the Gormley in particular, given the size of these. Good luck with the sale....

Agreed! I purchased @ £2800 and am very pleased with the print - better value than any of the RA shows available ones. £2k is a steal......
The Gormley was £2,800 on first tier and with -20% pre-order. So this is a generous offer. Appreciate for most forum members this charity portfolio release was a disaster and people felt prices were too high and they couldn't get what they want. I can't change any of that but I have a few of the release now framed and on my wall after teaming up with a friend for a set.
