Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by corblimeylimey on Feb 28, 2007 11:41:13 GMT 1, I don't understand why some people are moaning so much about getting rid of irrelevant listings when you're trying to find something you want.
How do you guys organise your music? Mainly Dance over here but about a third of it is Country & Western with the odd mug, Jazz over there but about half of it is Film Soundtracks or Rap and fridge magnets. ;D

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by numusic on Feb 28, 2007 12:06:31 GMT 1, Homework for everyone - Lets all find atleast one non-banksy item with Banksy in the title and report it to ebay... If all do just one it'd make a big difference (and p*ss the profiteers off at the same time). Its a win-win situation...
Half the forum wouldn't know about a ton of othger artists if it wasn't for keyword spamming. You'd have to do ten different searches for Dface, Eine, Baldwin, Micallef etc.. I actually prefer to stick in Banksy and maybe stumble across something else also.

You'd need to do a seperate search anyway as they'd only be a small fraction of Dface, Eine, Baldwin, Micallef etc in the Banksy sale items and you'd probably find one cheaper by doing a proper search.
I'm sure this forum has has done the job of introducing new artists to members better than ebay has.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by taktheride on Feb 28, 2007 15:01:01 GMT 1, you can just search for Banksy, and items costing $150 or pounds or more.. That weeds out almost everything thats crap.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by tomhills1 on Feb 28, 2007 19:55:53 GMT 1, isn't this all a bit like standing on the waters edge trying to hold back the tide? futile. (unless the tide's going out of course!)

I don't think so. It must be very annoying having your listing pulled (you may lose a higher bid and if time was an issue, that too). I'm sure rather than go through the hassle of list pull, relist pull, they'd just learn to do it right in the first place. Also it will be a snowball effect because anyone who's tried it a few times and had to relist the correct way is going to be pissed off with someone else getting away with it so there will be even more spotters and reporters.
As I said earlier what's the problem? it'll be a level playing field for everyone, and buyers can clearly see what they're looking for.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by tomhills1 on Feb 28, 2007 20:28:15 GMT 1, i don't disagree with the sentiment, life would be so much easier if you didn't have to wade through all the crap. as for the whole losing out on a high bidder thing, doesn't really stand up when applied to all the t-shirts, mugs and fridge magnets that are on buy it now's for tuppence and each seller is listing about 200 at a time under prints, it means reporting every listing individually and how mny people can be arsed to do that?
i know you're referring to actual prints by other artists tenuously linked to banksy so as to cross-promote, but i think that is a much smaller problem by comparison.

Don't blame me, I haven't said anything to ebay yet.
Why not just play the game, and I'm sure if you see some listings that are not, you'll be pissed off and report them yourself.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by thesewalls on Sept 24, 2007 9:36:07 GMT 1, agreed. street - for the public - is where they belong. a major function of street art is to reclaim pubic space, not take it home and especially not sell it on frickin ebay. there was a D*Face piece up last week for 900 quid - didn't sell to my knowledge. dude said it was signed by the artist, an original work. yeah, no shit, but it was NEVER MEANT TO BE FOR SALE!!

Never seen Banksy sign with a 'rounded' B before!

I've noticed that the consistancy of his signature varies quite considerably - even on my very genuine signed prints. Like you say though it's always a good idea to follow up provenance for peace of mind when you're spending this much money

It was a hidden auction so couldn't warn him!
Just have to be so careful, I'm no expert but that stinks to me and I would never have bid on it!

His signature has varied a lot over time, but not generally by much within each print edition (but they weren't generally all signed at the same time so the signature does change).
I've never seen a sig like this though. The 'B' in particular doesn't look at all right. I'd want to check that provenance hard.
