Price Transparency in the Art Market, by irl1 on Aug 1, 2019 20:40:07 GMT 1, I won't deal with online galleries that have POA, nor will I deal with a private seller that won't post the price on a forum. They are just trying to take you for the highest amount of money possible, which is a practice I refuse to support. Yes you can't buy and sell at the same time

Price Transparency in the Art Market, by irl1 on Aug 1, 2019 20:54:30 GMT 1, At the very least, these newer buyers want to know the price without the potentially uncomfortable conversation that comes with having to ask. In the most recent edition of ArtTactic’s Hiscox Online Art Trade Report, 87 percent of respondents said having prices visible was among the most important factors when buying art, even beating out “background information about the artist and the work” by six percentage points.
"At Artsy", we’ve also found this to be true......
Artsy are one of the worst sites for pricing. 99% of the Galleries on there have no prices advertised

Price Transparency in the Art Market, by Daniel Silk on Aug 1, 2019 23:47:26 GMT 1, Yeah, Galleries not posting prices just makes things look very dodgy, like they are a bit of a scam.

Price Transparency in the Art Market, by avec art on Sept 24, 2019 9:35:07 GMT 1, It was a bit of a marathon watching this on the back of the $50 art swindle. So I fell asleep by about tip 7 and woke up to hear people talking about WW1 fighter planes.
But it appears if you can get a well tailored suit and pull off looking rich, then some people will lend you their paintings worth a few million quid and then you sell it for a few million more than what you promised to repay the owner. When your new buyer finds out they massively overpaid and feels irked, there are not the usual legal protections in place, as so much of the business was conducted by word of mouth.
Basically much of the same s**t that goes on here, but at a much higher level.

Price Transparency in the Art Market, by moron on Sept 24, 2019 20:21:52 GMT 1, "the 5th Anti-Money Laundering Directive, which will go into effect in the European Union on January 10, 2020, imposes stringent reporting requirements about the buyer and seller in any art transaction above €10,000 ($11,100) that is carried out by cash or wire transfer."
From the article. It looks like they are closing down the loophole where someone with a few grand cash that they do not want to put in the bank and instead hide the money in an artwork till they re sell it.
