BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by sgolby on Oct 9, 2019 15:15:47 GMT 1, I love the fact that only folks with kids get the posters. I feel like they should stay in the kids' hands to be honest. if you brought a friends kid the poster should go home with the kid. If you brought your kid, the poster should go in your kids room. I wake up to my rat every morning and it makes me smile! Borrowing from the trix rabbit... Silly Daddies, Rats Are For Kids!!!!!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Dahmer on Oct 9, 2019 15:15:49 GMT 1, After following the last 70 pages I'm curious as to how the people handing out prints posters and maintaining the space get the job to do so. Do they know someone who knows someone within Banksy's circle or are they hired through a temp agency? The first night it was there and i popped down about midnight and i got chatting to a nice girl security person and i asked them this exact question almost, how did they get the job, if it was an add in the paper or whatnot and from what i can remember they all work for a particular company tup north, and were told to be on standby - and then boom, they got a call and traveled down to croydon with no real idea what the job was until they turned up.
Theyre all pretty sound by the look of it to be fair, and if they do security in leeds for example on the door of a club im sure this is a nice welcome break, stood around handing out posters to kids, cant be worse than the threat of being glassed outside a club can it. Perhaps as always they will get some sort of print for helping out as has happened before with dismaland/new york etc - i would of been happy to take a couple of weeks holiday / non paid leave to stand around and do the same if i was going to get a signed banksy gift print dedicated to me. While i wouldnt want to take two weeks off work to stand outside a club in Glasgow

I am now obliged to take him to a shop window in Croydon. It's only right isn't it?

You’ll have to be specific because that describes anywhere compared to Croydon ☠️

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by damo on Oct 9, 2019 16:44:05 GMT 1, I went down there again this afternoon to see it in a calmer environment than my first visit last week. Aside from the work itself I was struck by the engagement that casual observers were taking. There were two old girls discussing the life jacket and the scandal behind that, and two kids discussing the boy under the ‘cursor’ attack, and how that probably related to cyber bullying. I’m making sweeping assumptions here, but neither couple seemed to be gallery visiting types and yet the debate they engaged in was as interesting and nuanced as any you’d hear elsewhere.
We can patiently (or otherwise) wait for the shop to open (Jesus I’d love one of those cans) but that’s not the point is it. He’s done it again. Art can make you think, and should be accessible to all. Nobody (currently) does that better than Banksy. Simple as.

That's the thing I think with Banksys work, it speaks to the masses, people see different things or get different messages from it, creates discussion, debate.
So different to most other art that I know insofar as every piece has a message within it, maybe just humour, or thought provoking
Very powerful in its simplicity, No one else can nail it as well as he does.
Just brilliant really, love it
The piece I don't get yet is the brick handbag, is it like a molotov cocktail for females?

You only have to look at the numbers who visited The Bristol Museum show (300,000) and Dismaland (150,000) to realise his reach is way beyond any other artist out there. His work is genuinely reflective of the times, which is what art should be about.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Dungle on Oct 9, 2019 17:22:49 GMT 1, Made it down there with OMG today and so happy we made the trip, even with her being ill!
The rooms are brilliant and so well put together, she’s at an age now where she questions everything so got properly engaged.
The whole experience topped off by one of the security giving her a poster which is going up in her room.
Her granny had just gone to Lesbos to help the refugees there, so this was a good platform to explain the life jackets and what it means.
Well worth the trip if you are toying with the idea.

Tomorrow, back to working from home. I'll be back to full form 🤣🤣 havent had a chance to read much since yesterday looks like an additional 4 pages or so, looking forward to it once I'm out of this horrible rain an off the train.
Has anyone managed to find a frame for the rat print? I've had it between two boards atm to flatten before framing for my daughter. I'll measure it properly tomorrow and see if I can find anything suitable. Apparently my daughter was talking all day about the display, banksy this, banksy that at the childminders haha. Tomorrow at school will be interesting no doubt. Job well done.

Brick purse could illustrate how social media has caused a lot of people to care more what others think of them, spending irresponsibly on material things they don't need just to get more likes. Wasting money on designer purses, clothing etc, instead of investing, buying a home, etc. Financial bricks that may hold them back later in life.
I went down there again this afternoon to see it in a calmer environment than my first visit last week. So different to most other art that I know insofar as every piece has a message within it, maybe just humour, or thought provoking Very powerful in its simplicity, No one else can nail it as well as he does. Just brilliant really, love it The piece I don't get yet is the brick handbag, is it like a molotov cocktail for females? Brick purse could illustrate how social media has caused a lot of people to care more what others think of them, spending irresponsibly on material things they don't need just to get more likes. Wasting money on designer purses, clothing etc, instead of investing, buying a home, etc. Financial bricks that may hold them back later in life.

Someone mentioned the definition of brick in terms of sneaker reselling as being one that is unsellable. It he streets a brick is a failure, or a reference to the cold.
In this sense i don’t actually think it is a play on words but rather a commentary on the societal weight we feel to fit in, to consume in order to show our consumption. Women’s handbags being perhaps the quintessential socio-economic badge of belonging.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by withnail69 on Oct 9, 2019 17:38:46 GMT 1, Visited today and enjoyed the display. Nice weather and worth going if you can get there. Not sure I would want to go there at night without one of those stab proof vests! Here is a photo from my day trip to Croydon. I'd like to know where all you guys that say stuff like that about Croydon at night actually live? What's wrong with it? I think I need it explained to me. I have read it a few times on this thread and just dont get it xx I worked there for years and it was pretty dodgy and violent at night and that was before all the gang related stabbings and muggings etc.. Google it there was a massive gang fight not long ago in broad daylight with kids attacking each other with scaffolding poles
