Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by daspui on Jun 19, 2020 23:36:13 GMT 1, For those of you in the NJ/NYC area, can you recommend a reputable framer? Need to get my Basquiat framed and I am new to all of this. Been a huge Banksy fan for years but I am the furthest thing from an art collector, however I plan to hold on to this piece. Aside from museum quality framing, is there anything in particular I should ask for/look for? Also, I have yet to open the packaging due to lack of storage in my apartment - feel like at least its safe in the packaging. I plan to open it before taking to get it framed, any tips or things I should look out for? I read the instructions on the package and it seems fairly straight forward. Thanks in advance. Perhaps DM whatisart he had some ups and downs which are in earlier posts. I did see his post and looked back, I believe I was able to figure out where he got it framed. Given the responses from everyone else on here I'd like to explore my options before considering them. Also will be sure to be clear about preserving the packaging.

Once you narrow down your options and phone for a quote just mention the dimensions Of the print that needs framing and not the artist 😉

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by artdelight on Jun 20, 2020 11:50:52 GMT 1, I agree , no idea price wise though. There isn’t such a thing as these coming to market at a discount anymore though. I’m sure this will sit around the signed Nola / choose your weapon price bracket off the bat I’d love one if anyone is willing to part with it in 2 years time? What about 1 or 3 or 5 years time? LMK Not because I want to part with one but because I just want to know. thx. awks. lol
Surely it’s a sleeper with 100k $ minimal price in 2 years

LMK Not because I want to part with one but because I just want to know. thx. awks. lol Surely it’s a sleeper with 100k $ minimal price in 2 years if global recession has no bearing on prices , with recent auction results of banksy prints and with the consistent growth in prices over the last 10 years in the print market , with private sales around £35-40k and galleries listing for £50-£60 of the banksquait now ,possibly £120-£150k in two years and edition of 300! Girl With Balloon us is edition of 600 and currently £120k unsigned ! So a conservative upper price of £150k based on previous data .if basquiat collectors take a liking could sky rocket of they are already prepared to pay £90k for a print made after the artists death released by his father in 2016? Or the market could crash as caused by the pandemic ? Who knows , every purchase is a risk buying a bAnksy after the initial release

I was lucky enough to get one of these prints and have left it boxed up during lockdown. I want to get it framed but have absolutely no idea what I’m looking for. I live just north of London so any recommendations would be much appreciated:)

Yeah marks your man. He’s framed a few of these and 1000s of banksys.
All black on this one. Every other frame looks terrible.
It will be in good hands

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by sm on Jun 24, 2020 7:44:15 GMT 1, I was one of the very lucky ones to score a black Banksquiat print. Well technically my husband did but only because I insisted he enter the lottery. He’s not particularly a fan so he’s gifted it to me 😁. He’s English and used his parents address in the UK as we didn’t want to both put our current Australian address. With everything going on with COVID I’m in no rush to ship it over, I’d rather collect it in person when restrictions are eased but that could be a considerable time. I’m nervous about leaving with the in-laws as they’ve taken It upon themselves to open it regularly to make sure it’s okay. What’s people’s thoughts on loaning it to a gallery for a year or two until I bring it to Australia. Would they frame it and would it be covered by their insurance? I’m considering a few options at the moment but was interested to see if anyone has done this before and if it’s a good way of keeping it safe until I get my hands on it. FYI, it’s not for sale. Thanks!

Hello there.. personally I wouldn't lend it to a gallery, galleries are a business and hard times are upon us and don't trust anyone.. also I would give your in laws clear instructions 'do not touch the f*cking print please' 😂
I was lucky also and bought the same print. Banksy couriered the print to your in laws using a proper art freight company. I would call and arrange that company to pick the print up and ship it to your place in Australia it will probably cost you $600-$800. Then you'll have less stress as it's in your possession, happy days 👍.
Then you don't touch ihe print either, take it straight to a decent framer and they will safely remove it store it and frame it properly for you. I paid $900 to frame mine..
Good luck and congrats, cheers 👍😉

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by eschiff on Jun 29, 2020 10:46:12 GMT 1, For those that have framed this - what did you do with the note on the packaging (the framing instructions)?
I go back and forth between cutting that out to frame as well (on the reverse) or simply keeping the packaging as is. Thoughts?

Interesting thanks, so I guess you're just storing the original packaging then in case you ever decided to sell? The framer I've been speaking with suggested cutting it from the start and asked what I thought.

I hope I never have to sell it. But I hope I still will live many years, so lots of things can happen

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by chefd on Jun 30, 2020 1:33:50 GMT 1, I don't get all the fuss over keeping the original packaging... the art is within the packaging... you don't see pieces listed at Christie's as coming with the original packaging, because it's not the thing people are parting cash for.
If it was a piece without a COA I can understand it a little bit. Just a little tiny bit.

I may never be able to afford placing a bid on christie’s. But I would def bid on gdp packaging on this site or ebay. I mean, did you see some of that rat packaging?

I admit, the packaging on that is quite a bit different to the Banksquiat print but there are people that place a premium on it.

I think if the box is part of the art itself then it should be kept intact and sold in tandem. The Grappling Hook box is a part of the sculpture. I'm not sure if that is the case with any GDP items. We've seen some pieces come with a stenciled logo on the box so that adds to the coolness factor and creates a premium if sold alongside vs ones sold without it. But I dont think that is the same thing as the Hook because if the Hook were to sell without the box, it would have to be sold essentially as incomplete.

Interesting point. I actually was able to buy the hook from the WoH, the box was never mentioned in any of the communications and was simply the way the piece was shipped. So I think collectors have decided it's part of the art rather than the artist. As the hook was displayed in the WoH there was no box either.
It's an interesting point though.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Jun 30, 2020 15:45:33 GMT 1, I gave away the little opening instructions label to someone who liked it and put the two massive bits of cardboard in the recycling. My Banksquiat now basically worthless.
Seriously though, keep the packaging if you like it, but it's absolutely not necessary. Pristine original packaging is important in toy collecting, not art.
I kept the GDP order number label because I thought it was cute.

I gave away the little opening instructions label to someone who liked it and put the two massive bits of cardboard in the recycling. My Banksquiat now basically worthless. Seriously though, keep the packaging if you like it, but it's absolutely not necessary. Pristine original packaging is important in toy collecting, not art. I kept the GDP order number label because I thought it was cute. x2

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by vvk on Jun 30, 2020 18:30:54 GMT 1, I may never be able to afford placing a bid on christie’s. But I would def bid on gdp packaging on this site or ebay. I mean, did you see some of that rat packaging? you really would bid on a packaging ? yup. i would.
If you would bid on a mass produced poster in the hundreds , why would you not want a 1 of a kind box ? especially if people are willing to discard them?

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Andy 123 on Jul 14, 2020 18:16:26 GMT 1, If i had one i wouldn’t sell it for less that asking price. I dont care what actual market value is. Anyway there is still unsold one on Artsy.
