Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by silvermyn on Sept 1, 2020 9:39:43 GMT 1, For what its worth.. Those Black an White Kate AP's are bloody beautiful.. Im not talking about the financial aspect when i say that one of those blows the socks of a Banksquiat if framed and hung.. A superb version of the print Excellent points! I had not even considered that Kate Moss is a more of a UK draw..but you're likely correct! Although, the Warhol connection is why I rather like that design. The UK angle has held a few pieces back in the past.
Tesco’s isn’t a familiar brand in the US. In the past this has held back prices of the Banksy Soup Cans despite the Warhol design connection. Tesco has also had a negative impact on Very Little Helps prices in the past.
By “in the past” I actually mean before buyers lost the plot. These days the market has become a tad irrational and people seem to be paying crazy prices for any old image even if they really don’t get it. In a few years time when things settle, IMHO the Banksquiat will be more sought after than the Kate.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Poster Bob on Sept 1, 2020 11:13:40 GMT 1, It was a gift print without a COA and as such, the original owner would need to apply for a COA, making it quite a gamble. Hence the less-than-stellar auction price.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Sept 3, 2020 12:05:02 GMT 1, Just FYI to those who own this print, I called Hiscox to increase the insurance to £135k, in light of recent auction result. It was very simple and added just over £100 to the premium.

Obviously there are a many variables when it comes to insurance, but any chance you can tell us what the premium is that you have paid and whether it is a standalone policy for art, or is for general home insurance as well?

Just for art. It's their collections insurance. Premium, with the additional cover, is in the region of £250. So about £20 per month.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by darren6 on Sept 3, 2020 13:27:34 GMT 1, Hope you've got it insured!
First timer here. I was successful in the GDP lottery (very happy of course), which in of itself was a fluke seeing the post on the GDP Instagram page that first day and just going for it. I just got the print back from the framers a couple days before the auction, so am both enjoying the adrenaline rush from seeing it in all its glory hanging on the wall, to the very real worry now about the value that is also hanging on the wall. Certainly, besides my home, the most expensive thing I ever expect to own. I'm in process of getting insurance to help with that worry, but imagine it will still be there for awhile. No intention to sell for at least 5 years as I get in to retirement, so just gonna enjoy it for now. It's a very impressive piece and seems massive when looking at it, and different in feeling from so much of his usual work that I see on the internet (never any in person). Cheers.

I was lucky enough to win a black banksquiat which has,as the same as a few here, has totally changed my possibilities in life.Thank you Banksy! Also I am so proud to be able to contribute to his amazing efforts to help migrants under extreme duress in the Mediterranean Sea.One of my most important questions is because I won this in a raffle, Capital Gains Tax will not apply. Is this correct?

Well done to you for getting a Banksquiat and welcome to the forum. You would need to pay CGT as you didn't win the print, you won the opportunity to purchase a print.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by sitecrip on Sept 4, 2020 0:24:31 GMT 1, Thanks Terry for your reply but I'm sure that it was a raffle and as such is the same as winnings from a casino, thus not subject to CGT. Thanks for the congrats and the welcome. I'll have to speak to a lawyer about this when I come to sell this piece. Unfortunately I am not in a financial position to keep this. I love art and have a few Obey,a Peter Howson, some Snub,Jimi Crayon,Carrie Rieghthard and a few more but this could change myself and my partners life...

I'm quite sure this won't come into the same category as a lottery win. Either way, if you have to sell, then it will be quite a substantial amount of extra money for you and your partner.

Congratulations on the win, I personally think you will struggle trying to deem this as a raffle win. You entered your details, and were selected to purchase a product through the site. It doesn't mention anywhere on the site that you are entering a raffle.
But, considering you purchased it for £500, I think having to pay a bit of tax when you come to sell it is fair game, you'll still be left with a huge amount of money afterwards.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by sitecrip on Sept 4, 2020 12:02:30 GMT 1, Yeah, paying the tax isn't such a bitter pill to swallow seeing as the profit from the original outlay is immense. I sent an email to GDP to try to clarify the situation but they only suggested that I speak to an accountant and considering the fees for professional advice, that's the road I think I'll go down. Either way I've come out smelling of roses,so happy days!

Don't forget the ARR you will also have to pay as well. It's like a little gift to Banksy for being such a nice chap and letting some people have these nice things😉
