Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by jp on Sept 29, 2020 1:05:42 GMT 1, I'll make this as brief as I can(your framer should know this, if not, move on, trust me) Oak is one of the worst woods for conservation, it has one of the most volatile acidity known for wood working and conservation. All wood is made up of the same chemical compounds that exude fumes regardless of curation(3coats of shellac is standard, and yet that lets the chem fumes from the wood pass through in due time). If you want to use top wood use pawlonia wood, asian antique museums use it on a last resort basis. I can go on and on with knowledge from different libraries and update standards but I have done this before and people just choose to believe what they want, though science typically is spot on. Go for metal framing or acrylic, make sure there is an aluminum mylar layer in the backing and sealing of the frame, this is a must for ambiance variations. The updated knowledge is out there if you search, most framers just do not take the time to research what nnot because they do not have the time or have a business to run etc..but the updated scientific findings incorporated into conservation practices has leaped in the last 10 years. "Oak is one of the worst woods for conservation, it has one of the most volatile acidity known for wood working and conservation."
Do you have any photographic evidence of a piece of art ruined by fumes from an oak frame? I'm genuinely curious to see what it is you are referring to.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by acaipride on Sept 29, 2020 2:06:09 GMT 1, While I do not have this evidence, there have been studies done on this subject by major institutions in the US, Canada and if I remember correctly France. You can find all this info on google, heck even Gaylord Archival recommends the non use of it in long term framing..these findings are fairly new to most, as within the last decade or so they began to publicize these findings Curious is good, let that be the drive to the research, like me you will find the forementioned to be true. We are talking about gassing off in time lapse of years and not months, 7-10yrs plus..if I remember correctly you can find the France study online complete with pictures on the different woods used in cases throughout modern history and which let off the most chemical fumes over time, hence why museums turned to special metal and acrylic encasings for long term storage

Thanks for sharing the info. I have Google the subjekt and I Can only find something about out gassing on furniture and that kind of stuff. Can you push me in the right direction maybe with a link? Was the study you have seen about framework or “just” in general off-gassing?

Maybe a vapor-impermeable barrier like a tape could be a good solution and a cheap extra safety precaution. I am still a little critical about how “Big” the issue is in the end, but it is still very interesting to talk about the topic and get more knowledge.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Sept 29, 2020 10:46:54 GMT 1, Always find it slightly funny when framing talk turns to discussion of how to essentially vacuum seal your print away from the world. It's a Banksy print, not the Turin shroud. Use a framer experienced in framing to museum standards and stop worrying. You don't need to be concerned with whether it might have faded a fraction 100 years from now.
I had one Banksy framed by a local, well-regarded framer in 2009. He didn't frame for museums, but back then my print was only a bit valuable. I sold that one last year and their were absolutely no issues when it was removed from the frame. Had my second Banksy framed by Mister Frame Man this year and I trust his skills based on other work he's done for me. I hang it somewhere away from direct sun and away from big changes in temperature. Beyond that, I don't give it another thought. You can drive yourself mad worrying about the slightest external effect on your print.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Sept 29, 2020 12:26:45 GMT 1, Think we'll see these coming up regularly at Tate Ward until the COAs are issued next year. I wonder if it might mean prices level off, but that doesn't seem to have been the case for other prints that show up regularly. Thrower will make huge money, I reckon.
Disappointing, if not surprising, to see someone flogging Harland Miller's NHS print immediately.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by avant on Sept 30, 2020 18:40:55 GMT 1, Evening,
I was just wondering if anyone had the dimensions for the Banksquiat print:
I don’t want to take it out of the box before it’s ready to go in a frame, I think all the dimensions I’ve seen are 70x70 so I imagine they are all the same.

Yeah I plan to, if they were all the same dimensions I’d have the bespoke frame made prior to my arrival so there’s minimal involvement from the work.

If you are going to trim the print to fit, dont, just fold the overlap, and don't forget the parcel tape to stop it slipping in the frame

Thanks for the advice, I’ve heard the best thing is superglue, so going to give that a try. If it gets stuck I’ll just spray on some WD40, should do the trick.
