Should I be getting the piece appraised and insured before having it framed?
The first appraiser I talked to suggested I contact Pest Control for an estimate, I told them I'm pretty sure they don't give appraisal estimates beyond sale price- lol. But I guess correct me if I'm wrong.
Not looking to sell, just looking to protect the piece — god forbid it falls off the wall, gets stolen... or damaged when getting it framed.
I see someone above saying they used Chubb for their insurance and that the piece didn't need to be appraised. Does anyone have more info on that? And are they a reputable service?

Speak to Hiscox art insurance. I don't think they ask for an appraisal to insure all your art... although I've never had to make a claim and test that.
Also check your current home contents insurance. They may not like you having such a target for thieves in the house.

i didn't want to get into the science technicalities of why, as it is lenghty and I'm not sure if warranted by the forum...but nature's engineering has developed eyes to be light reactant, naturally we will always react to a light over a dark spectrum...the contrast. (endogeneous/exogeneous cue for visual attention)
