Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by mheadroom on Nov 2, 2019 20:51:21 GMT 1, Hereโs my Rat framed. Decided to frame these two as well. Going to hang them together.
I bought the rat on eBay while I was a few sheets to the wind. I figured having it sit between the other two is an accurate way to describe me and my purchase of this โfreeโ giveaway. =) pretty sure itโs real but without authentication, 8โll never truly know

Over the top, sorry to say
Why are people framing these in cheesy ornate frames? Thought we had got over that phase. Also you framed out all the white space
They never look good in your home.
They work in a banksy room.

I think it's good to see people posting pictures of their framed work because considering all the stuff that gets purchased, we don't get many framed pictures. We should encourage more people to post more pictures. Also like to see some variety.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by urbanwear on Nov 3, 2019 16:33:16 GMT 1, Well I don't give much importance on the framing (as you can see, maybe i'm mistaking). I recycle some old frames, sometimes I don't frame, ikea frames, and I put it all up on the wall, overall I don't mind the looks of this "mix".

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by avec art on Nov 3, 2019 22:38:17 GMT 1, there has been some success with slowing this prolific faker down, but he's been getting around the rules of acceptability by saying his prints are 'lazer' printed and unfortunately come back with extra vigour.
I believe these new listings are an attempt to deceive the unsuspecting, in fact we know they are. They are also keyword spamming, as they have little to do with banksy. Also the fact he's using the same photo for 3 of his flower prints is breaching the rules.
So I'll be taking my pick. All the other listings also look totally dodgy, so may look into some of them, but don't have much knowledge there.

those all sold. Now he's resupplied the market. Potentially an endless revenue stream for him.

As long as he's happy with it, who cares what anyone thinks? Whoever posts it on a forum?
Concise reply, and persuasive.
Anyone who shares on a forum clearly does care about what others think.
Of course, that also seems very normal. Imagine living with the kind of person who was never interested in receiving feedback of any kind. You would need to hide a knife under the pillow, and learn to sleep with your eyes open.
__________
Regarding critique generally, it's worth keeping context in mind.
We aren't guests at a formal dinner party, where not offending the host might take priority over the expression of honest opinions.
This is an art forum, for adults who possess adult-levels of resilience. Forthright commentary should be actively promoted. Even at the risk of causing upset to those among us who are thin-skinned. A few members do give the impression of taking issue with sometimes being on the receiving end of criticism, ribbing or sarcasm. One could argue they are perhaps unsuited to the genres of street art and graffiti โ which rely so heavily on irreverence.
A separate point is that when somebody challenges our art-purchase, framing or hanging decisions, it pushes us to question ourselves, to think again, to think differently. And that's one way we grow as collectors.
So if the goal is to keep learning and progressing, then each of us is far better served by a bit of flak than by comforting pats on the head.
__________
urbanwear โ The fact this framing style isn't to my taste is unimportant. But the aspect you may wish to reconsider is the tight cropping. For a couple of reasons:
1. Aesthetic: At least to my eye, the print looks better when the rat is less cramped in. Moreover, it doesn't seem unreasonable to suspect the artist himself felt the image (when not added to a clock face) worked best in the format released, i.e. with a relatively large amount of negative space.
2. Conservation: Over time, UV light and visible light are likely to result in some fading to the paper. There would then be colour unevenness between the exposed part and the area currently covered by your mat. Collectors who wish to mitigate this problem typically float-mount works on paper (although, granted, it's tricky to do well with newsprint) โ so that any discolouration occurs evenly and less noticeably.
I think it's good to see people posting pictures of their framed work because considering all the stuff that gets purchased, we don't get many framed pictures. We should encourage more people to post more pictures. Also like to see some variety. We're in full agreement here.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Fะฏ on Nov 4, 2019 11:00:51 GMT 1, I took inspiration from the Dumbo print at GDP and went for plain black. The mount is really narrow, acting more like a spacerโ would have used a black core mount if only it were acid free. 99% UV cast acrylic for reducing yellowing (all free of charge cos Iโm a framer!) This was the most damaged rat we got, but once under the gloss of glazing looks good. I imagine directly pressed up against the glass would look flatter but on balance less great for conservation. image hosting
This is the nicest example of framing so far i have seen on these rats.

I've not had much luck with acrylic, I use it, but it often seems slightly warped in its reflection, in a way that glass doesn't.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by trap door on Nov 4, 2019 11:17:52 GMT 1, 2mm cast is pretty flat tbh just make sure not to put excess pressure on the back with stapling / flexi points which can warp the reflection. The leap from 2mm to 3mm makes a huge difference in rigidity, so for big work and box frames that helps.

Could be wrong though.... It would be difficult to replicate while maintaining the detail. Other than that it's not too hard to do. Banksy said that he sprayed the rat directly to the acetate, and by doing so it's captured all the fine spray elements, and they look fantastic.
All the fakes I've seen so far seem to have been lazer printed. Not sure if anyone has attempted to silk screen them yet. But I'm not sure if there would be much point in doing so as so much detail will be lost.
