Banksy Welcome Mat, by eyectopus on Oct 7, 2020 20:09:48 GMT 1, Anything over 500 is 2nd edition? I think and i could be wrong that first edition are the ones with the tag sewn it, and anything after that has the tag hanging? there are some numbering anomalies, ie some first editions are numbered over 500 and vica versa i don''t think there is any difference as its only a tag and wouldn't say one is worth more than the other
That's correct. The one I purchased is from the first edition and it is numbered over 500. Someone here mentioned they purchased from the second batch and got one numbered less than 500.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by oarts on Oct 7, 2020 20:56:33 GMT 1, Spoke to Love Welcomes- in all fairness they plan on releasing these for the next couple batches. The gentleman said - there WILL be an end date to this production & that not everyone on the waiting list is guaranteed to receive one by any means.
Regarding sewn tag- the only difference it is from the initial GDP release. i did hear, however, the thread they use is actually banksys old beard hair.

I think people have been using batch and edition interchangabley for these. I think we can refer to them as batches and not editions.

This maybe be true but that’s not how this collecting thing works.

Exactly this. Same with books. They might all be first edition but it’s the first impression that collectors want.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by mint on Oct 7, 2020 22:23:29 GMT 1, This discussion has gotten stupid. The first batch released had the tag sewn on. If you look at the text it also has more of the black thread to hold down the life vests.
The other batches released had brighter life vests too from what I've seen.
People resell everything. Stop trying to guilt people about selling these...no one cares about your moral compass.

From the answers I've heard from. gDP winners, I think Banksy did care about people's moral compass..

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Fast Eddie on Oct 7, 2020 22:46:37 GMT 1, Just like a low number in an editioned Banksy print. You can always find sunspots, but that does not make it less irrational.
For fun: what if there was learning by doing at the workshop and the latest mats are actually the better ones because closer to the artist's intended design.

Most likely holds true, most products go through this

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Majestic on Oct 7, 2020 23:04:49 GMT 1, I've still never quite worked out why they're numbered like they are.
What would be the benefit unless you have an edition number in mind?
This isn't to stir the debate, genuinely curious.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Matt 2 ttaM on Oct 8, 2020 1:36:34 GMT 1, Wow are people splitting hairs about this, its all numbered from the same edition. Its not a poster and its made in restrictive refugee camps so they have to release it in batches. On the zip portion of the Welcome Mat hanging off the “e,” mine has a functional zipper whereas many others dont, with this logic that makes it ultra rare ... but so what, I may go back on the waiting list to get a 2nd one so I can connect the 2 Welcome Mat’s together and use them as nun-chucks. How much are Banksy Nun-chucks worth?

How much are Banksy Nun-chucks worth? I don’t think people are splitting hairs there’s an obvious difference between them. Using your logic there’s no difference between a Harry Potter first edition and a second edition
Fair enough, it is a solid point. The thing is, if you can really call them editions, Which my logic was based on the fact that they were a single edition. They are all numbered as if from one edition, just like the banksy skateboards, the hundred are still part of a single edition despite being made over a decade later.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Daylight Robber on Oct 8, 2020 3:09:05 GMT 1, There's no such thing as a first edition... they're all from the same edition. A currently open edition. there’s a reason the first batch/edition are different it’s not an accident I’ve heard people say it’s to save time stitching the tag on. I don’t think that is correct it’s only held on by about 6 stitches it might save 5 minutes. The only reason I can see is to differentiate between the first 500 and the following batches. Like it or not the sewn on tag is always going to be more sought after as its a lot rarer. eBay sales already show a premium price being paid for the first 500. With regards to the numbering as a guess I’d say The first 500 numbered 80-580 then they started again and numbered the second batch separately second batch numbered 80-580 it’s just a guess but it may explain the odd numbering system p.s I’m a buyer for a first edition if there’s any available
Can advise that your guesswork is a little bit out. The numbering on the 1st batch definitely starts below 80.
