Banksy Welcome Mat, by nobokov on Oct 20, 2019 6:33:30 GMT 1, I’ve only been able to find the company that produces the actual model of the life vest, not the “fake” ones that were actually used in the making of the mats. However, the company that produces the actual ones doesn’t seem to have an online shop. Yeah I don’t know where the fake ones are but I can get back to you tomorrow on the information for the real one. I think I've secured a lifevest. Would you happen to know where I can rent a refugee to display with the vest and mat?

Why?
I think it’s fine.
Some of the mockers here do have a point.
If we had genuinely and urgently cared and wanted to give 500 we would’ve given 500 without expecting a Banksy in return.
So the talk of logistics, bunfight, number sold and market value are all part and parcel of what makes a Banksy a Banksy.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 20, 2019 8:11:43 GMT 1, I think the money from the castlegallery mat sale has now been pledged to Love Welcomes by the dog charity. Fantastic gallery, and one of the most reputable Banksy dealers I know. How are they reputable? Primary sale of Banksy parody, which are generally quite shit, while reselling secondary of Banksy, where some a generally quite shit.
I think the Love Welcome Mat, actually shows the opportunistic nature of this gallery.

Finally we are closing in on the truth.
Charity: is a good deed motivated by helping others where the personal gain is not s DOORMAT, even one endorsed by BANKSY. We should all try to do on random act of kindness a day. Yes a one off donation of £500 is a fine start but it’s not the start and end.

With bbay not running yet and all the banksy coverage at the moment it seems like pr stunt , gets people to check the site and may lead to sales .. free advertising

And let go of our greed and our need to pick over the bare bones of capitalism to destroy the joy we can find in the act. We are all hypocrites that is true. But let’s just for once believe in something better.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by carly on Oct 20, 2019 10:57:51 GMT 1, There should be more than enough to make thousands. The life vest is shredded to strings To make the word welcome one vest could make lots. The other reason I can think of for a waitlist is It takes. Long time to make one. The specs Banksy demanded are challenging. And 500 pounds is the value of the work put in. Say a full 4-8 hours to make one. It’s not a charity throwaway tat. But a real piece of handmade craft. So promising a massive order by collecting money first could feel daunting. And having a waitlist - as you would with fine watches and cars - would make more sense. By that rationale - if you can wait 2 years, you will get one at cost, no problem. S Hopefully anyone who purchased one of these did so with the right intentions. With regards to numbers being made and orders being taken you are correct the life jackets are cut into strips and sewn into the mat. However each mat also has 2 buckles and straps taken from each vest. Therefore taking a huge amount of orders would mean presuming enough abandoned vest will become available in the following months. Which is something nobody would wish for.

Capitalism has helped a whole lot of people raise their standard of living. Yes, theres lots of greedy people and loads of problems to be solved but its not been all bad.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 20, 2019 13:06:45 GMT 1, Let me make it clear for ayauashca, jaygo and denzil, I couldn't give two hoots about free publicity, I got an early call about the mats and bought it to support the charity, never had plans to sell or profit from it. After it was confirmed I thought what's the point in me sticking it in drawer as I'm not going to frame it. A few weeks back I'd met up with one of the founders of Lucy's trust, he's a friend and I went to school with his partner who gave up veterinary practice to rescue dogs/animals, mostly abuse cases. To receive government funding they have to open to the public but wont/can't because of bite risk. They do this for love of the animals regardless and any help means alot, they put everything into it. They're friends, I wanted to help them. The mat could have been sold to someone else and that would've been the end of it. I helped in the only way I can by using my platform to raise some money, so far it's at £1600,fantastic, hopefully it brings some more attention to both charities and raises some more funds. Thanks to those that supported, thank you. To the keyboard warriors blow me. Peace, Andy

I am confident that galleries like that, be they good or bad, who inherently exist and make a profit off the secondary market in Banksy are the target for this entire process (in addition to companies like the card business ). This process is about taking back control and sending a message. Bbay when it is in full effect together with PC and GDP will quite rightly control the primary and secondary market place in a way that best balances things and removes the majority of past greed. Prices will always go up and down and profit can be made if that’s what you are interested in but who makes it and how much of it they make can and will be controlled better. In addition wealth generation from both primary and resales can be directed towards places best suited to receive them. The sales process for GDP should and quite rightly will be vetted in ways other than the lottery and the Question posed at checkout. The measure of the success of this process will be to see how close to zero the resales of pieces like the Banksquiat and Thrower are after several years.Whatever questions need to be asked of people to get to that stage will be asked and rightly so. If Banksy wants you to make money out of his art he/they can easily make it happen and vice versa via the withdrawal or giving of authenticity certificates. This is all clearly stated in the ts and cs if you interpret them correctly. None of the above is without some hypocrisy that’s granted , VIP and primary market sales have always been conducted in the past however they are likely in future to always be at market rate or above for good reasons also. Even if GDP is a one off, with PC and Bbay , a line in the sand has been drawn and in my view further cleverly veiled and well advertised control mechanisms will be implemented that will get the job done whilst entertaining the fans and distributing content to people who appreciate the works and will simply enjoy owning them. It’s a great time to enjoy being a Banksy fan and if you really are genuine then this is the best time to hope to own one and to see more works for sale than have been for a long time. One a final note relevant to the topic ,the mat is in my view an exceptional almost perfect example of Banksy work. I managed to buy one and I will display it, because even though I have other Banksy on the walls worth more in monetary value I can’t think of a piece of work that better represents the ethos of the man, the subtle, comedic and subversive nature of the work and the support of good causes that is often a backbone to the creative process. I hope enough are made so everyone who wants one can own one and in doing so thousands of debates are sparked and thousands more people can see what Banksy is all about. Interlude over , please commence discussion of values and profit once again.....

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 20, 2019 13:17:03 GMT 1, Let me make it clear for ayauashca, jaygo and denzil, I couldn't give two hoots about free publicity, I got an early call about the mats and bought it to support the charity, never had plans to sell or profit from it. Peace Yes how is your pal gonzfellow ? say hi
Lol you'll see

Banksy Welcome Mat, by pfffffffffft on Oct 20, 2019 13:18:24 GMT 1,
That makes sense. These aren't woven on a loom. They are hand stitched and I completely forgot about the edges of the mat.
Assuming these take around 6 hours each to make, based on the LW web site it looks like they have 9 women working on weaving so they would be able to make around 60 a week. It'll take around 9 weeks to make the number allocated for the first order but then they need to ship from Greece to which ever hub the orders are shipping from so assume another week or two to get there.
I can't speak to the UK but in the United States credit card companies prohibit any payment processed after more than 90 days after the card issuing bank grants the store an authorization to proceed with a transaction.
They may not be able to collect preorders right now because they may not be able to ship any additional orders past the first allocation within 90 days.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by pfffffffffft on Oct 20, 2019 13:20:01 GMT 1, For a Banksy love welcome mat i read a lot of hostility (even for this forums standards). #getoveritandmoveon Yeah, I don't know why suddenly people got really nasty.
Everything was really friendly and positive up until yesterday then everything started to go sideways.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by bestdj777 on Oct 20, 2019 13:20:45 GMT 1, There should be more than enough to make thousands. S
They also use the straps to make the border of the piece, so you really do need one life vest per mat.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Stonetown on Oct 20, 2019 13:34:39 GMT 1, Charity and personal interest can exist together. It's not either or. People can both have been charitable and donated for the sake of the cause and also be excited about the mat as a piece of art and an investment. It doesn't make the person of lesser quality. Let people talk about it. They made their donation. They helped a great cause. Now let them discuss their art.
