Banksy Welcome Mat, by pfffffffffft on Oct 19, 2019 14:25:25 GMT 1, Is there a Gross Domestic Product logo/emblem? Anyone noticed one yet? The only GDP label I've noticed is on the small signs in front of each of the items in the windows which also happens to be one of Banksy's favorites....the barcode.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by drip on Oct 19, 2019 14:28:36 GMT 1, People won't really fake these will they? I can't see the wives or partners being over the moon with these above the fireplace? Not really the same as a Girl With Balloon I hope they stay what they are, collectable for us weirdos along with the box set and bits of wall we so like. Wonder if MFM will do a group deal? I was thinking more along the lines of some unscrupulous sh*tbags stitching together their own mats, in order to fleece unsuspecting art aficionados (either during Love Welcomes production run or after they've stopped making them). I don't understand anyone paying over retail for one of these, when they could put their name on the waiting list and show patience. I know the fear of missing out is strong with some people but still.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by dogstar on Oct 19, 2019 14:33:01 GMT 1, Enjoy the organic feeling you get when you donate $617 to a charity and do not worry about what commercial product you get or don't get in return said no one on this forum ever !!!!! Stupid, stupid man.
I donated £500 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in May after it was attacked by the right wing press for spending 2% of it's funds on saving people from drowning abroad, causing fury among gammon-faced middle-Englanders who vowed never again to make donations the charity.
I received nothing in return. And I don't even like the sea.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by coller on Oct 19, 2019 21:48:01 GMT 1, Love Welcomes made another post on the topic today on their Facebook page:
World renowned artist Banksy has teamed up with Love Welcomes to create hand sewn Welcome Mats from life vests found on beaches in Greece. The mats have the word ‘welcome’ woven into them using the bright orange material and will be made by our team of amazing refugee women in Greece. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The mats went on sale this week and in just over hour we sold out! 😲It was an incredible response that means we can continue to directly help refugees gain access to key services and rebuild their lives.
We are so thankful to Banksy for supporting Love Welcomes and highlighting the important work that we do. 🙏We are overwhelmed by his fans and followers who have been so supportive of us and our work. Every single purchase helps refugees and their families work towards their future. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Banksy describes the mat saying: “This hard wearing floor covering is hand stitched from life vests abandoned on the beaches of Lesvos by migrants crossing the Mediterranean. Customers are advised that they no longer constitute a valid buoyancy aid - although shockingly they never did - many are cheap fakes sold by people smugglers and don't actually float. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤝Our Co-founder Abi Hewitt said: “In creating this new Welcome Mat, Banksy has helped refugees to find self worth, dignity and hope. Living in a refugee camp shouldn’t stop your dreams, this is keeping hope alive. Each time you buy a Welcome Mat you’re supporting a refugee and their family as they begin to rebuild lives shattered by war, one stitch at a time.“ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you would like to buy a Banksy Welcome Mat you can join our waiting list. Please send an email to hi@lovewelcomes.com We will let everyone know when more become available.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Gentle Mental on Oct 20, 2019 5:31:16 GMT 1, 30mins each 16 per 8 hour day 160 for a staff of 10 4800 a month or so.
Give or take 2 months. Anyone who wants one would get one.
So I think LW should just send money requests to all who emailed just so It reassures those who really want one that they’ll be fine and Thanks less would cancel when they realise it’s really unlimited.

I'm wondering if after this initial run, the next "offering" if there is one will be different either color, details, etc... As much as we'd like to think the initial version is unlimited, one thing not many have thought of is the life vests themselves.. unless it changes to using new ones, there simply aren't thousands of found ones sitting around (unless I'm unaware of a situation regarding these in that area of the world).. I'd bet the initial 500 or whatever are made using the displayed vests from the show.. then either the next if there's more will be different with new material, or different all together, or if the same, a higher price as indicated by the B wording on levels of releases
These could very easily be one of the first bbay items, and be either different, or higher in price (or even lower if it were simply the mat but all stitched without the vest use)
That's the only reason I can think of for not taking people's money now. Otherwise they've missed a tremendous window

Banksy Welcome Mat, by kylekeizer on Oct 20, 2019 5:50:39 GMT 1, Does anyone think it would be possible to acquire one of the life vests that were used? Not necessarily one that was found on the shores, that would be a bit grim. I’m wondering if a new, unused one would be possible to get my hands on for displaying with the mat?

Yep look at the brand and type it in you’ll find it. I’m too fucked up to help more than that.

I’ve only been able to find the company that produces the actual model of the life vest, not the “fake” ones that were actually used in the making of the mats. However, the company that produces the actual ones doesn’t seem to have an online shop.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Gentle Mental on Oct 20, 2019 6:09:37 GMT 1, There should be more than enough to make thousands. The life vest is shredded to strings To make the word welcome
one vest could make lots.
The other reason I can think of for a waitlist is It takes. Long time to make one.
The specs Banksy demanded are challenging.
And 500 pounds is the value of the work put in.
Say a full 4-8 hours to make one.
It’s not a charity throwaway tat.
But a real piece of handmade craft.
So promising a massive order by collecting money first could feel daunting.
And having a waitlist - as you would with fine watches and cars - would make more sense.
By that rationale - if you can wait 2 years, you will get one at cost, no problem.

I'd argue they'll collect not half as much money now by not taking all comers.. but just my opinion..
If these do become available as exact same item and price again, the takers will be much fewer than if it had stayed available even just a few days. That's guaranteed. Out of site out of mind, and for most fans this show is basically already forgotten, bedsides their seemingly impossible hope that they get an email being chosen to buy more than a t-shirt...
Especially with him saying this initial release will be the lowest price.. I'd bet if they release again same product, theyll be more
Or, it's a gag of sorts and that company got 10,000 emails for their lists lol
Personally, I think this "store" will only be up for the lottery . I don't personally think this will be on going . 99% of people will get an invite to buy an open edition product, but I don't think the site will ever be "live" as we say... This lottery is basically a digital way for us to all go to the event. No reason to keep the page going with 100k+ entries. Everyone can get something, and they didn't even need to make it before we order. It's genius pre selling. And I'm sure there's a specific amount and dollar goal
I predict it never opening, and people being shocked. Then when 30,000 spray paint cans shipped, loser flippers will still try to sell for 1k smh
