did PC confirm that, be great to share the quote FR, it would stop the hype 👌

Who wants a crappy card tag with swing tag? I’d rather die than own editions 2 or 3

That is correct.
I hear they ran a big focus group, because of course they care and have nothing better to do.
That is when they realised that their target segment of middle aged overweight art anoraks speculating on mats produced by refugees wanted to see the tag.
So they fired the previous team and upgraded the design.
Or more realistically (and less self serving) : it was easier to hang than sew.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 28, 2020 14:51:01 GMT 1, Am I the only person who bagged a first edition mat, started to put in my CC details and then think "why am I purchasing a £500 mat I don't want just because its associated with Banksy"... so emptied my cart and carried on with life. I don't get this secondary frenzy at all!

Banksy Welcome Mat, by cnrdvln on Oct 28, 2020 15:02:18 GMT 1, it looks like no one really knows what the difference might be.
it could be the COA theory or the fact that people just prefer first releases (reference to the amazing butterleaf thread).
the only thing we can confirm is that the market does put more vue in the first batch
we might know more when BBay comes along

I never said you could get COA, I was hoping you could help clarify the rumor mill so we can take the steam out of the price difference.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Richy Rich on Oct 28, 2020 15:18:31 GMT 1, i don't understand the confusion? it seems obvious that the initial tags would have taken longer to sew on so to save time (and possibly the fingers of the sewers) they decide to change the tag to tie on?

I'm ok, I know there is nothing to the rumors. I just don't think other do. hopefully they read the thread you mention.
let's see if there is any clarification when Bbay goes live or the 2nd round of GDP opens up again.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 28, 2020 16:29:03 GMT 1, The first run of anything always carries a premium. Same reason the first printing of a first edition book is worth more than the second printing. People just like having the first of something, but anyone expecting the 'first edition' mats to get a COA is dreaming. Did we learn nothing from the whole 'Banksy will include a special extra with the first mats because he loves everyone who bought one' farrago?

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Matt on Oct 28, 2020 17:01:33 GMT 1, It's one of those things you buy and when you receive it, you think, "wtf is this shit. why did i buy this?" Quite the opposite.
I bought it because it was the only GDP item actually for sale, and because it looked so striking in the Croydon storefront.
Only when I received it did the full power of the piece hit me.
You can laugh all you want about it being a mat, and the dumb frenzy over price is nauseating, but this is an incredibly powerful piece of art in itself, for what is is, what is made of, who made it, what it means to both the maker and the receiver, what it says about our world...
There is a lot more to this than 90% of those Banksy prints that everyone thinks are so great (oh look, how cute, the girl let go of her balloon )

I also look at a Rothko and think, "wtf is this shit?" So I'm probably not the best person to extract meaning out of things intending to be artworks.
When I see these mats framed up, it reminds me of visiting ikea or a garage sale. It's too small to function as a doormat and too ridiculous to be put on a wall or displayed in any way. It's a nice idea, but to me it just shouldn't have been implemented.
