Great spirited discussion about the mats. My 2 cents is that these cant be unlimited for few simple reasons:

-It will take a long time and a lot of effort to make these. Compared to the WOH Box Sets which can be mass produced, these look like they are very much in the 'craft' category, are cumbersome to create and so wont be mass produced. And they certainly wont outsource them to a factory. That would hurt the message.

-An earlier forum poster is correct... Banksy could just release a print to benefit the charity and not have them go through all this effort. Seems somewhat easier to do that and would likely make as much or more money for the cause faster. Less cool...but easier on the people producing the mats by hand for sure.

-If you make these mats truly unlimited, then you wouldn't get the same asking price for them. Supply and demand rules apply. If there are a ton of them available, they would likely have to lower their price on them. Meaning that they would have to produce that many more (by hand) to make up the same charitable contribution. Much better to limit the quantity of the release and release something else (that they create) at a later time.

For these reasons, I would bet that the mats end up being in the high quantities but not unlimited. 1000k ish max. I also wouldn't be surprised if they ended up only doing 500 of them and then released something else that is easier to produce. That then might explain them originally being listed as 'From and Edition'.

You don’t snitch on friends, i don’t know these folks, but i do know that what they are doing is worse than the average flip. Go take a look at castle gallery’s instagram. That’s the only honorable way to sell this on. Also, I may be mistaken but i don’t think that on Ebay you can sell an order confirmation or a shipping confirmation, only something in your possession.

I think helping anybody/anything in need is more important, the Doormat could've been wrapped in acid free tissue for a decade but its helping raise funds for a very worthy cause, 2 people who give everything to help animals, mostly abuse cases and can't get government funding because they would have to be open to public and that's not possible because of bite risk. I'm sure Banksy wouldn't have a problem.

I'd speculate that Banksy chose mats over prints, because it's a bit comical to think that someone would actually frame or hang a brown mat on a wall or even pay thousands for a mat. The joke is on the person who actually does use it for a purpose other than entering your home on and perhaps reminding us about the plight of the less fortunate (and even that itself might be a sort of a joke and comment on what art is). But since the job of the mat is 'to sit on the wall and get more expensive', no one except the most wealthy will be using it for its intended purpose. It's likely just going to be a stored in our closets sitting there while Banksy laughs and we share that laugh at our own obsessive hoarding behavior and the shit that we buy.

Sorry by the ends does not justify the means.  Sugarcoating it because it is going to a dog's charity, so what?  GDP made their views and terms quite clear from the offset, and what Castle has done is, denied a legitimate fan from contributing to a worthier cause and of course owning something in to the meantime.  He owns a gallery, put something else up for auction, but to me this stinks of glorification and another desperate act in riding Banksy's coat tail (Lonelyfarmer, Gonefellow and that Banksy Room).

If he wanted to style it out, he could have made Love Welcome the charity to receive the funds.  So effectively they get 2 donations for the 1 mat.
