Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 17, 2019 18:08:15 GMT 1, Imagine if charity after charity after charity just kept buying and reselling (and benefitting from) one of these mats? Do you think it would end with Sotheby's Auctioneers Against Arthritis? Maybe, but Bbay will most definitely end most of the secondary market resellersย
No it won't.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Tax and Shipping on Oct 17, 2019 18:09:40 GMT 1, No no no no no - sorry but this kind of behaviour should not be tolerated. Those mats are to raise funds for the refugees, not for a dog shelter. s**tty thing to do and a bit of coat-tailing, and anyone who has the money to bid on this should be donating it to the charity and the cause that this piece was destined for. irrespective also to the cause or purpose, a flip is a flip. Email winging its way to Love Welcome informing them that you are pre-selling. It's also part of the terms and conditions of sale from GDP. ...more of a cat person then?

Can you not?
I don't know why i feel like i do about this, but i do, if the money went to the Refugee woman then I could kind of let go the publicity the guy will get through instagram on it.
The way it's being done Just feels wrong, I like Andy, just think he has made a mistake with this
Wouldn't it be better of this was highlighting the lovewelcomes.org website and the aims of the people on it, maybe they would sell some other mats that they make or cushions or get some donations?
(need to get off my high moral horse again maybe?)

Banksy Welcome Mat, by drip on Oct 17, 2019 18:12:35 GMT 1, I'm fairly sure if Banksy takes exception with this, then CG would receive a visit from Banksy's legal team. (Jo with a baseball bat). Or a phonecall would be made (just the sound of Jo tapping a baseball bat against a table).

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 17, 2019 18:14:58 GMT 1, Itโs just an odd choice of charity (not that I have anything against dog charities). To me it would have made far more sense to benefit the original charity even more or at least a related one. Is he trying to make a point? yes lonely farmer likes a dog charity, Staffordshire dog rescue. He will be toast in a year when bbay takes effect.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by sgolby on Oct 17, 2019 18:32:07 GMT 1, I am going to make 3 points:
1. With Andyโs client list he could resell this with no problem and no one knowing within hours, for market value.
2. I believe that the fact this is going to charity, makes this OK. Love Welcomes got the bulk of the publicity and 250k from this load of 500. Surely a couple of ยฃK to an animal charity is no issue.
3. I highly doubt this is Andyโs order, so reporting will do fairly little good.
Just saying

Banksy Welcome Mat, by irl1 on Oct 17, 2019 18:33:57 GMT 1, Yes i agree 100% it should have gone to the lovewelcome Charity but any Charity is better than the back pocket
I had a problem something like this last year. A few of us collected a couple of quid donated it and got F****d from a height by one guy who collected for an hour! The rest of us were out for two weeks solid.
He wanted it to go to a big Charity funded by our government.
It went to a local one run by unpaid staff.
All we got was him and all his mates badmouthing us behind our backs.

I was thinking about it and surely unless its comparable or competitive to Sothebys et al or any of the galleries that stock Banksy, sellers will sell through them. Many buyers would also be galleries to add to their stock, no? I think its a good idea to have an inhouse resale service ie. Bbay however I'm not convinced it will 'most definitely end most of the secondary market'.

Charity auctions are a tax write off, so will always go higher.

The charity is making them. I think Bansky essentially gave them a new money making opportunity and told them to run with it. I donโt see any end in sight to their production, as long as there is demand. And itโs absolutely fantastic for them if thatโs the case.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by coller on Oct 17, 2019 20:53:12 GMT 1, I really, really did not want this thread to become a discussion of how many mats are being sold. If we are stuck on that topic then I want to say a few things:
1. Refugee women are making the mats by hand. There are 9 refugee women currently employed by Love Welcomes. As of August 2018, Love Welcomes has employed 23 women total which has resulted in the creation of approximately 3,200 mats. I think it is important to acknowledge that this is not a factory, rather these are real people making these by hand because it is their only current means of earning a living, and as a means toward a better life. 14 of the 23 women employed have incredibly been relocated across Europe and are now using the the skills taught by Love Welcomes to work and raise a family on their own, giving them another chance at a real life.
2. These mats will likely be made as long as there are refugees willing and able to make them. This is a double-edged sword, as the mats guarantee money goes toward a worthy cause, but the act of the mats being created means those 9 women who are making them by hand (or any additional refugee women employed by Love Welcomes moving forward) have not yet been relocated to places that allow for a better quality of life.
So while endless creation/sale of the mats may raise tons of money for the charity, it would also be an indicator that there are still real people in a dire situation whose best option is to make the mats to earn a living, which is not great. Essentially "endless mats" = "endless refugee crisis".
The purpose of this charity, at least as I understand it, is to give these refugee women a second chance at life. It is incredible that Banksy has given Love Welcomes and these women such an opportunity to live better, help more people, and expedite their recovery/relocation. That said, it seems the endgame is not to raise money for this charity until the end of time. The endgame is for these refugee women to earn enough money and employable skills so they can find a better life somewhere in Europe.

But when did it become ok to snitch on others? Are you police? Think this is a case of sour grapes! Always ok to snitch on charity flippers. Always.
When did you decide it was ok to abandon your morals?

Where does it say 9 women? I see made by women in refugee camps. Just curious.
I really, really did not want this thread to become a discussion of how many mats are being sold. If we are stuck on that topic then I want to say a few things: 1. Refugee women are making the mats by hand. There are 9 refugee women currently employed by Love Welcomes. Since August 2018, Love Welcomes has employed 23 women total which has resulted in the creation of approximately 3,200 mats.
