Why are drans “people” such d****?, by Lroy on Oct 29, 2019 4:20:45 GMT 1, Everyone that ever represents dran are such jerks. What’s the deal with that? I finally had an opportunity to buy a canvas and they were so rude when i didn’t want to spend 30k to buy sight unseen. Not my forest experience with his people acting like this...
I have had problems too with them ( they even block me from their official Insta - as if an online store or a museum were forbidding me the access because I just dared to ask stickers - I be am not a thief nor a robber ).
That said, I never never an artist that is (or was ) not cool with me or with other people. I will boycott whatever the artists all these with extrem right side ideas, as National Front pet example ( UKIP for uk ).

Additionally, they're probably sick of requests for low-value commissions where people act as if they're a benevolent benefactor. It just isn't worth their time.

Standard practice with Dran. It’s a big ask to part with that sort of money blind so totally understand - did you get a ‘peek’?

When I first met them, they were wary of me. They took time to get to know me. They don’t want his art being used as a mechanism to make other people money. They want to know that his works are going into loving homes.
I was in a position to buy a new piece, had a budget and contacted them. They offered me something and told me only the price and the size. Naturally, it was a lot of money to spend on something I hadn’t seen. I asked if I could go to Paris, meet them and look at the piece before committing to it. They agreed to this, no problem.
When I met them and saw the piece, I asked for a couple of days to consider the purchase, they said this wasn’t a problem.
Since then, I have introduced other genuine collectors to them. Some have been offered and bought. Others have been offered and said the piece isn’t for them. The team have had no issue with this. They know that this is a lot of money and that people have to be really happy with the image they’re buying.
In the time i’ve known them, I’ve seen people blocked from Instagram, I’ve seen people come onto shows, demanding specific prints and they have been met with a cold response. They don’t like entitlement, they don’t like demands.
They are not a business, they don’t have online sales, they don’t run shows in the same way that others do. They don’t do the things that we, as collectors have come to expect but that’s how they choose to do things. I genuinely believe that they do this to protect Dran and his work.
They also have always tried to ensure that there is something for everyone at their shows. From €20 to €60k. They want everyone to love Dran’s work and to love the experience. They’ve always been welcoming and warm and wonderfully hospitable at the London shows.
Would I love there to be a show, in the traditional sense, with 15-20 top drawer canvases, of course I would.
Would I love there to be a print release, of the quality of Chalks or ILY, with unique hand finished editions, of course I would.
It’s not my artist, it’s not my choice.
I know other people have had different experiences, have different views as to what they do and why and I respect that.
I just wanted to give a bit of balance by sharing my experience with them.

Again, not knocking on OP. Everyone should be treated as a potential buyer but customer service isn't really a priority for artists, galleries, etc. It's gonna get sold so they don't really care if you're happy about your experience or not.

I didn't say they were good or knowledgeable flippers. Flippers are always trying to flip unflippable art, dran is no exception.

There is a reason himself as an artist has been left behind, there are 20/30 loyal fans that buy his stuff but outside of that nothing to write home about.

I gave up when i caught them cheating on the Montmartre canvas lottery. They kept all the large ones out of the 2000Euro draw and sold them off market. I would know i was offered them all.
A freaking nightmare they are, but in reality very smart. And it pains me to say that, I have quite a collection myself.
