Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by thataintright on Jan 14, 2020 7:15:54 GMT 1, I recently sent a print to Framebridge, which is an online framing business here in the states. The way it works is they send you a tube, you package your print and send it off to them and they send you back your art all framed up.
A couple days after I sent them my print I get an email notification saying they got it and it is in the process of being framed. A few days later I got an email from PayPal saying my purchase had been refunded. I log into Frambridge and I have a message saying that they had lost my art! They told me it usually takes up to 10 days to find missing art and the offered to replace the print if I had proof of purchase. Unfortunately the print sold out instantly and I was finally lucky enough to score a print from this artist. This is all taking place over the Christmas holiday. There is about 8 days of back and forth email between myself and their representative. I let them know that there was one copy of the print being sold on ebay since they said they were willing to replace the print. I sent them a link to the ebay listing which was going for 10x the original price. After 8 days of emails, 2 hours after i sent them the ebay listing the print was found.
What i was told was that they sent the print to the wrong customer. They contacted the customer and the print was returned to framebridge. They said in the shipping that there was some damage to the original frame they put the print in so they were going to reframe it and send it out to me right away free of charge.
I received my print today and it looks like the print number was erased and rewrote! You can see a smudge because of the paper the print is on and you can see where the old number was and the new number looks different.
What can be done on my end? What should be expected of Framebridge? They framed this print free of charge and offered me another free framed print due to it being lost of Christmas break but this was all before I knew they had altered my print. Has anyone ever had a framer damage/alter a print and how did they rectify it? This all seems shady on Framebridges end especially with them finding the print 2 hours after I had sent them the ebay listing. Any advice is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by thataintright on Jan 14, 2020 7:31:36 GMT 1, I just got the print delivered about an hour ago so I havent reached out to them yet. Figured I would check here to see if something like this has ever happened to someone else before I email them again.
I messaged the artist asking if they would ever erase the number and rewrite it then send it out.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by thataintright on Jan 14, 2020 8:18:24 GMT 1, Yeah I have learned my lesson now. It was the same number that was on it before. I'm not sure what the reason could have been to try to fix it.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by Charlesworth on Jan 14, 2020 8:19:27 GMT 1, Have they accidently cut down the edge of the paper and cut off part of the editon number and thats why they have rewritten the number on?
I would be looking for them to replace the print if it happen to one of my pieces.
I hope you get this sorted.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by 1000years on Jan 14, 2020 8:21:34 GMT 1, My guess is that the intern, who framed this picture, covered the 6 of the 65 / 75 with the passepartout and thout it would be a good idea to squeeze it into the space thats left. Its only pencil, what could go wrong.
HORRIBLE!

Since the writing is on the passepartout, this is clearly someone that cut the passepartout too small and wanted to squeeze in the number. This is unacceptable and the print should be replaced with a new, perhaps the artist can help if returning this one?
And ofc, use a better framer to frame it with archival standards, itโs worth the extra cost!

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by Deleted on Jan 14, 2020 9:13:09 GMT 1, I feel for you and hope it gets sorted but Iโm also thinking anyone who uses this kind of service gets afar they deserve.
The frame is as important as the art, going to the framers to talk art and frames is always educational and using an expert with expert materials is essential.
Hopefully lesson learnt and hopefully it was a fairly cheap print.
Good luck getting things sorted

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by Rock it Dont Stop it on Jan 14, 2020 9:13:24 GMT 1, Like someone else has already mentioned, it looks like there is a pencil mark on the mount next to the "6". If that is the case, then hell yeah that "65" was added by someone at Framebridge (for whatever ridiculous reason).
If I were you, I would email them these photos, and then call them so that you can speak to someone and don't have to play the back-and-forth game through email.
I'm not sure what Framebridge can do to settle this (a free frame job wouldn't solve this for me, personally), but I really hope you are able to resolve it to your liking somehow. I am very curious to hear how this plays out if you don't mind sharing.
Sorry this happened to you and best of luck.

this
clearly a 5 underneath what's been written, they would have been much better off leaving it as no 5 of 75 if they were too cheap to just recut the border to the correct size
this should end up costing them a whole lot more!

As others have said, it looks like the "6" of original "65" was covered by the mount, then they tried to correct this by rubbing out the "5" and squeezing the "65" in the space, rather than correcting the mount to show the original numbering.
I bet if the print was removed from the frame (I wouldn't recommend doing so) that you will see the original "6" under where the mount currently covers, i.e. the numbering would now be "665" (original "6" and new "65").
The smudging, pencil marks on the mount, different pencil grade (looks darker), different handwriting, and the impression left by the original "5" make this stand out like a sore thumb!
Shocking attempt at covering up a poor framing job and surely correcting the mount would have been 100% the best option!
Good luck getting this sorted!

I suspect that is not the only damage and its probably be glued to the back board. I will always check reviews first for online companies I've not heard of. Once it's sorted, please add a review to the already comical comments they have. Some of these are well worth a read๐ uk.trustpilot.com/review/framebridge.com
If you put your location on here, someone should be able to recommended a decent framer close by.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by stillborncrisps on Jan 14, 2020 11:43:19 GMT 1, By re-writing the number they have essentially reduced the print's value to zero.
Assuming the numbering was done by the artist this is on a par with trying to re-write the signature. It now looks like some sort of forgery, or a backdoor print trying to be passed as genuine.
Whilst you know the real story, in ten years or whatever when Framebridge are probably long out of business, it will just look dodgy af to anyone else if you want to sell it.
Don't accept Framebridge's free frame offer - wtf would use these guys again?! Settle for nothing less than them replacing this print with the one from eBay, if it's still available, or a gallery if anyone has one, and then get someone else to frame it.

Reminds me of the framer who cut the signature line off a pair of original Matisse prints that were in my family. Like literally, they were taken to the framer and came back with the signatures cut off. To make matters worse, the framer then wrote in the name of the print and "by Henri Matisse" or something to that effect where the signature used to be. So, yeah, this was before the days of internet framers.

Framebridge damaged/altered my print, by sufsean on Jan 14, 2020 14:53:23 GMT 1, I've used Framebridge before...I would ask for whatever the print's worth is--in future credits. i.e. $500.
The problem with Framebridge is that they give zero updates when they're framing. They just do it, and send it back -hoping it's what you wanted.
I've had to send stuff back a few times...
With that being said...it's a fine service if you're just doing inexpensive art or photos. I wouldn't send anything of real value there.

We insure up to ยฃ1000 for damage or loss, anything more than that the client is expected to have adequate insurance. Mounting artwork is not rocket science guys, plenty of online recourses available on how to do it. Just get the frames and mounts made up and DIY.
Do you have a photo or the unaltered print?
