Anish Kapoor 🇮🇳 Sculpture • Exhibition News, by twist65 on Apr 1, 2010 11:55:48 GMT 1, so the guy who singlehandedly finished off the British steel industry now spunks £16million on a sculpture celebrating the London Olympics and we're supposed to be happy about this? Regardless of artistic merits I think the uproar will be completely justified. How many Redcar steel workers salaries could have been safeguarded with 16m?

Like Kapoor say, " Let's get on with it " If he is accused of economic crimes. I can only imagine the shit storm of art that will come following this debacle. Let's just hope he is well.

It's not much, but its all e can do - try to keep it in the news, so he is not forgotten. Sadly I suspect Western governments wont do much, due to the trade prospects of what will soon be the largest world economy I guess.

Anish Kapoor 🇮🇳 Sculpture • Exhibition News, by dreadnatty on May 25, 2015 0:10:26 GMT 1, Anish Kapoor’s Perpetual Black Water Whirlpool Installed in the Floor of a Former Movie Theater in Italy
Churning and frothing just below the old wooden floor of a former movie theater in San Gimignano, Italy, a mysterious vortex of ominous black water seems to perpetually drain into nothingness. The artwork is a new iteration of artist Anish Kapoor's Decension installation that appeared earlier this year in India. The former cinema and theatre space is now the home of Galleria Continua that hosted the exhibition. Kapoor shared about the piece:
All my life I have reflected and worked on the concept that there is more space than can be seen, that there are void spaces, or, as it were, that there is a vaster horizon. The odd thing about removing content, in making space, is that we, as human beings, find it very hard to deal with the absence of content. It’s the horror vacui. This Platonic concept lies at the origin of the myth of the cave, the one from which humans look towards the outside world. But here there is also a kind of Freudian opposite image, that of the back of the cave, which is the dark and empty back of being. Your greatest poet, Dante, also ventured into a place like that. It is the place of the void, which paradoxically is full – of fear, of darkness. Whether you represent it with a mirror or with a dark form, it is always the “back”, the point that attracts my interest and triggers my creativity.
Descension was on view through May 9th of this year

Anish Kapoor 🇮🇳 Sculpture • Exhibition News, by dreadnatty on Jun 8, 2015 21:42:15 GMT 1, Public Outrage Erupts in France Over Kapoor va***a Sculpture
Paris might be the world's most romantic city, but when it comes to talking about sex, Parisians are proving a little prudish (see Paul McCarthy Beaten Up over Butt Plug Sculpture and Artist Enacts Origin of the World at Musée d'Orsay—And, Yes, That Means What You Think).
One of Anish Kapoor's sculptures at his newly-opened solo show at Versailles is causing a stir for its anatomical implications (see See Anish Kapoor's Gruesome, Chaotic, and Mesmerizing Sculptures at Versailles).
Dirty Corner, a 60-meter steel tube flared like a French horn with its opening facing the palace, allows visitors entering the gardens a view into its dark, cavernous interior.
The imagery is in line with Kapoor's oeuvre, in which he often employs gaping chasms and black holes (see Anish Kapoor Adds New "Super Black" to His Palette).
Dirty Corner was first fabricated in 2011 and installed at Milan's Fabbrica del Vapore.
Kapoor acknowledged the sexual connotations of the sculpture's current version in an interview with the JDD, referring to it obliquely as a symbol of “the va***a of the queen who took power."
But later, quoted by the BBC, he covered his tracks, reminding everyone that, like all art, his “work has multiple interpretive possibilities."
However, Kapoor's defending of the piece might have come too late. François de Maziéres, mayor of Versailles, tweeted on June 3, "#versailles, Anish Kapoor dérape sur le tapis vert" ("#versailles, Anish Kapoor skids on the green carpet"), referring to the "green carpet" of the gardens.
France might have a history of explicitly erotic art, but this isn't the first time in recent memory that contemporary iterations of sexual themes have made Parisians blush (see Artist Enacts Origin of the World at Musée d'Orsay – And, Yes, That Means What You Think).

Anish Kapoor 🇮🇳 Sculpture • Exhibition News, by dreadnatty on Jun 17, 2015 1:32:43 GMT 1, ANISH KAPOOR INSTALLATION OPENS AT VERSAILLES
“Personally I’m not all that interested in the building,” artist Anish Kapoor says, matter-of-factly about Versailles, the world-famous château that hosts his latest and buzziest (to date) installation. “What’s really a wonder here is the garden. It’s beguiling!”
The sprawling, expertly groomed grounds, conceived in the 17th century by landscape designer André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV, is the sort of place where you love to get lost. Mazelike hedges seem to go on forever, and plants often resemble sculptures more closely than living things. Designed with what borders upon absolute symmetry—aligned east to west and north to south—the garden is an endless reflection of itself, creating what Kapoor calls “a place of illusions,” where unusual perspective and perceptions of space draw visitors into of alternate reality.
Kapoor’s approach to an installation within Le Nôtre’s masterpiece, was to add to its confusion. His arching mirror, C-curve, is placed dead center in the courtyard behind the palace, flipping the monumental structure on its head. Sky Mirror, up the steps to the Bassin de Lattone, brings the heavens, clouds, and burning sun down to the ground. Still further on, past the Bassin d'Apollon, Descension is a roiling whirlpool that Kapoor vouches goes to the center of the earth. And Star Grove, a huge red-and-black cube is tucked behind the hedges, inviting visitors inside its curving, PVC-clad interior, which has the feel of a space-age habitat.
And of course, his controversial Dirty Corner—a pile of rusty metal and craggy earth seemingly excavated from (or dumped on) Le Tapis Vert—is perhaps the greatest comment on the garden’s stylized rigidity. The work aims to “lift up the carpet,” Kapoor says, and expose what lay in the garden before Le Nôtre got his hands on it.
“The gardens—the whole place really—needs an intervention every once in a while, otherwise it just becomes a dead museum,” he says. “And I quite like the idea that those interventions might be problematic.” www.architecturaldigest.com/blogs/daily/2015/06/anish-kapoor-installation-versailles?mbid=social_twitter

I'd be interested to learn the justification for blocking the word "vágina".
Is it viewed as a swear word, a term of abuse, or as being otherwise offensive?
Could you please arrange for the current list of banned words to be reconsidered by Admin?
Like Hubble Bubble and perhaps others, I've made reference in the past to the fact that censoring words like vágina" and "penís" is ridiculous, inappropriate and insulting to members. It reflects poorly on this forum.

I agree. Whilst mentioning Kapoor, there was a very good documentary about him on Sky Arts recently. Might still be available on some type of watch it again channel.
