Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by tartarus on Mar 28, 2017 22:12:08 GMT 1, I wouldnt even think about it using them now. If id put the piece in before christmas like i nearly did id be freaking out right now. Id say your an exception alk. There wont be too many willing to take a gamble on losing stuff like art. A fair few other auctions out there pulling good results, why go for the one that almost went bust and still has consigners that are owed money.

Honestly, the new owner is NOT making money with paddle8, which is why they recently fired most of the staff... they are working to make paddle8 a better business so they can create a niche marketplace for us collectors to sell and buy pieces...

Be that as it may, talk is cheap and it'll take some time before they're taken seriously again, at least on this board.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by samfrost on Mar 29, 2017 21:12:00 GMT 1, The business is getting tougher and tougher with other viable alternatives. I had pleasant experiences with them over past couple years, but would think twice before consigning with all of the noise.
Has anyone consigned over the past month or so and actually been paid?

All the people I was dealing at Paddle 8 just don't asnwer anymore about this case or just explain that they can do nothing about it...

Ehhh...professionally packed, art insurance, and international shipping for $250 is reasonable.
Shipping even a rolled print from the US internattional is $100 that doesnt include packing or insurance.
anything framed is pricey.

I've bought prints (albeit without extra added insurance) from the US and worked out the shipping options myself for the seller, and had them ship US to UK for something like $33.
Usual artist or gallery shipping costs for prints is $50 if not less.
I can ship a $1000 print (insured for that value) UK to US for about ยฃ35.
That's just me as an individual googling courier companies and using the options available, not a large company who would have discounts from various couriers from having an account.
asking 50% for shipping a $500 print is taking the piss in my opinion.

The shipping price for UK to US is cheaper then US to UK. This is true for every country, shipping out of the US is more expensive then shipping into the US from the exact 2 same points.
Yes it is their job to pack professionally, but they don't work for free.
The shipping price is only affected by the cost of the artwork bc of the insurance.
So if you ship a $5 print or $500 print the price will be relatively the same.... once you go over couple 1000 then you're looking at about 1 percent of the value for insurance cost.
You seem to think there is a heavy corelation between the value of the piece and shipping cost. You are mistaken. There is a small correlation bc of that 1 percent insurance cost, but besides that the shipping cost is the same, and depends more on weight and size of the package.
Ofcourse I expect you knew this already, but I think I've made it more clear. Lastly when I buy art shipping is the last place I'm looking to save money on. Nobody likes a crumpled tube no matter how well its packed.

Everything is fine and communication with my contact at Paddle8 is easy.
I wanted to share this good experience.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by Pattycakes on Apr 10, 2017 14:18:30 GMT 1, I believe that as P8 are now owned by a different group and they are paying out their vendors.
One thing to bear in mind, Auctionata/Paddle8 clearly previously did not have separate client accounts which is why when Auctionata went under so many people were not paid. I do not know the current situation with the new P8, but if they do not have a dedicated client account I would say seller beware.

Horrible customer service ta boot and very very poor communication skills at least with my agent.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by samfrost on Apr 10, 2017 15:17:37 GMT 1, FWIW, I took a chance and sold a couple lower value works last month and was paid within a week of pickup. Overall less than 30 days from initial hammer to cash proceeds. It's a thinly staffed shop these days, but so far I have had a pleasant experience post-reorganization.
