Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by k2 on Mar 25, 2020 23:14:30 GMT 1, There is gonna be a time when the world leaders are going to have to make the hard choice that no one enjoys, but is why ur a leader in the first place. And that choice is gonna be weighing the needs of the many vs the needs of the few and that choice is never popular as weโre talking life or death here. Itโs as**t time to be a politician right now. Exactly. Nobody wants to say it, but here in the US, I can almost guarantee in 4 weeks the restrictions will be lifted by the government. Trump saying 2 weeks right now for Easter, but that is way to presumptuous even by his standards with the peak estimated in 3 weeks. My money is on 4.ย
The more I read from healthcare workers who are dealing with this and reporting back, the less I am worried about what happens next and the more I am worried about whatโs happening now.
I understand how itโs possible to distance oneself from awful things that are happening to people in other countries that donโt directly affect us - we can all be guilty of that - but it boggles my mind that people are able to consider an acceptable level of loss amongst their friends and neighbours in order to protect their economy.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by moron on Mar 25, 2020 23:19:11 GMT 1, Does anyone remember the 2009 flu pandemic ? There was no lockdown and not much media reporting.
Just a comparison with what's happening today.
2009 (H1N1) flu pandemic
"Back in 2009, a new type of flu โ an H1N1 strain โ popped up and people panicked because we didnโt have a vaccine and the novel strain was spreading fast.
Like COVID-19, there was no immunity at the start of the outbreak. We did have antivirals to facilitate recovery, and by the end of 2009, we had a vaccine which โ combined with higher levels of immunity โ would provide protection in future flu seasons.
Still, it claimed over 12,000 lives in the United States."
"Global cases: about 24 percent of global population; 60.8 million U.S. cases
Global deaths: over 284,000; 12,469 in the United States; death rate was"

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by tab1 on Mar 25, 2020 23:29:03 GMT 1, About those โrefugeesโ you mentioned Inknart , do tell? It was in response to Tab's previous post regarding stopping refugees coming and going... I was simply saying those underlying issues will always be a problem. Before political correctness steps in , no one has quoted or implied anything racist stating facts at present until a vaccine is found the logical strategie would be to be in isolation until a vacccine is found countries of high infection rates have lockdowns , this only limits the spread if the population of these countries adhere to the advice given and stay in isolation refugees ,illegal migrants cross borders illegally and live in close proximity densely populated camps which may be highly infectious and cross borders illegally and undetected hence no cease to cross infections until a vaccine is found , it may slow down but the way it is spread will continue

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Someones Brain on Mar 25, 2020 23:33:27 GMT 1, I rarely post on the board and I even slowed down a lot during the last months because of the many negative vibes in a lot of threads. However, I still read a lot here and try to keep up with all the newly posted information.
Having said that first, this thread makes me feel the need to post this: 2/3 of the posts in this thread originate from the same 6 or 7 UAA members (... at least it feels like this, you get what I mean). And most of these posts only contain links to disputable sources, false or incomplete information, proven fake news, dubious personal interpretations of such information, hearsay and/or conspiracy theories.
May I just ask you (... you know who you are) to stop that nonsense, please. I know most of us are insecure during these difficult and dangerous times. Please resort to reliable sources and educate yourself (... that's what most board members probably do already) ... but spare us that unnecessary dross clogging up the board, please.
(And, of course, take care of yourself, your family and your neighbours. Stay healthy. All the best!)

Are you a reliable source?
This is not a science forum with professionals posting.
It's an urban art forum where people judge art on how much they can flip it for.

It's an old trick and they do it to attack the messenger not the message.
Calling covid the "Chinese" virus is racist they say but referring to the "Spanish" flu which killed millions is not.
Hypocrits.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by nobokov on Mar 26, 2020 0:15:30 GMT 1, It doesn't seem inherently racist to call it a Chinese virus if that's where it was born, but it just gives people who are already racist the excuse to act out or think that way. It's a shame we're all a bit racist.
That being said, no one needs to call it the Chinese virus unless you'd like to incite racism. Coronavirus is a pretty catchy alternative. Covid19 a bit less "catchy"

As ever with racism, I fear its about the intention of the user rather than the words themselves that are racist.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by shy on Mar 26, 2020 1:35:33 GMT 1, The Pandemic is already having a massive effect on the art market. With a global recession looming expect prices to come down.
Many brick and mortar galleries may have problems surviving. Expect more and more online sales in years to come.
For many art is a luxury, not a necessity so we are in for a bumpy ride.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by LJCal on Mar 26, 2020 1:58:52 GMT 1, I live by a park and same thing happened here this morning. I thought it was somebody taking the P at first. I could hear it from my balcony sadly I wasn't outside as I'm on a 3 month lockdown This is one of the most outrageous things I think I have ever seen. Not only have people had their civil liberties taken away and done nothing most have welcomed it and asked for it. I never in my lifetime thought police would be telling people to stop sun bathing in a public park, dark times.

I never in my lifetime thought police would be telling people to stop sun bathing in a public park, dark times. Not trying to bait you in any way, and this is a genuine question, but Iโm interested to know how you think the crisis should have been handled? What measures, if any, do you think should have been imposed? Definitely interesting to hear other viewpoints. The same way weโve handled every other out break of infectious disease for the last 100 years, take precautions, protect the vulnerable, promote better public hygiene but not shut down society and strip people of our rights. Is this now the protocol for all outbreaks of infectious disease because there are plenty out there as deadly as coronavirus and there will be plenty of new ones evolving. If people take a step back and look at this in context it just isnโt right and does not add up, this is the biggest scandal of generations and the impacts will be felt so severely for so many.
This is one of the most outrageous things I think I have ever seen. Not only have people had their civil liberties taken away and done nothing most have welcomed it and asked for it. I never in my lifetime thought police would be telling people to stop sun bathing in a public park, dark times. Not trying to bait you in any way, and this is a genuine question, but Iโm interested to know how you think the crisis should have been handled? What measures, if any, do you think should have been imposed? Definitely interesting to hear other viewpoints. Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Pipes on Mar 26, 2020 2:24:39 GMT 1, Indian police enforcing curfew. I live by a park and same thing happened here this morning. I thought it was somebody taking the P at first. I could hear it from my balcony sadly I wasn't outside as I'm on a 3 month lockdown Lived in India for a few years - thats pretty standard

But havent people proven that just asking them to be responsible citizens isnt enough. I know there are lots of people on here who have been isolating/distancing for long before it was imposed by the government. But there are so many people out there who seem to think the rules dont apply to them. If anything a small fine is not severe enough.
I am also willing to believe these extended powers will be removed once this situation is resolved (be it in 6, 12, 18 months or longer).
