Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by LJCal on Mar 26, 2020 2:40:30 GMT 1, The same way weโve handled every other out break of infectious disease for the last 100 years, take precautions, protect the vulnerable, promote better public hygiene but not shut down society and strip people of our rights. Is this now the protocol for all outbreaks of infectious disease because there are plenty out there as deadly as coronavirus and there will be plenty of new ones evolving. If people take a step back and look at this in context it just isnโt right and does not add up, this is the biggest scandal of generations and the impacts will be felt so severely for so many. You have to look at what politicians FEAR most. Not being re-elected. Most would rather go balls deep and be overly cautious than risk their political opponents Monday morning quarterbacking their decisions and lose their plush job of basically doing NOTHING. And that is where I think we lose some rationality. But, real talk, who knows what the right decision is? If it were only that easy. My view has changed several times over the last 3 months personally. And it SHOULD. Why? Because the times have changed. The BEST shot anyone had was BEFORE it hit their country. Youโre right itโs by no means an easy call but I canโt help feel politicians have been so weak in the way they managed this, more interested in getting positive headlines than actually thinking about what is a sustainable long term strategy. Anyone saying that science has informed most of these policies really needs to read the reports these policies are based on and consider them against the back drop of other infectious disease and mortality rates. I would direct people to the last paragraph of the Imperial paper.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Express Post on Mar 26, 2020 2:43:04 GMT 1, Nobody knows how damaging Covid-19 is or how easily transmittable. Plus the government has limited resources to test or help those with severe conditions. Because the lack of testing, we won't know how widespread the virus is. All we know is that it is deadly.
Prevention is better than cure.
One case of karma where a young kid contracted Covid-19 after they licked a toilet bowl() for a social media challenge.
Not trying to bait you in any way, and this is a genuine question, but Iโm interested to know how you think the crisis should have been handled? What measures, if any, do you think should have been imposed? Definitely interesting to hear other viewpoints. I would direct people to the last paragraph of the Imperial paper. For those that havenโt been through the report here is a quote from the last paragraph; Our analysis informs the evaluation of both the nature of the measures required to suppress COVID- 19 and the likely duration that these measures will need to be in place. Results in this paper have informed policymaking in the UK and other countries in the last weeks. However, we emphasise that is not at all certain that suppression will succeed long term; no public health intervention with such disruptive effects on society has been previously attempted for such a long duration of time. How populations and societies will respond remains unclear.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mojo on Mar 26, 2020 2:57:12 GMT 1, I live by a park and same thing happened here this morning. I thought it was somebody taking the P at first. I could hear it from my balcony sadly I wasn't outside as I'm on a 3 month lockdown To be fair during the last couple of weekends, particularly last Saturday, I've never seen so many people in the park, it was almost as crowded as the headline act at Glastonbury about to go on stage. It was weird. And that wasn't just happening outside my window all over the world people were cramming themselves onto beach's, into parks even on top of mountains. Snowden reported its busiest day of visitors ever. I'm sure these people would have normally been laying in front of Netflix with a pizza not even interested in leaving their homes.

Long term conditions as this would not last Regular citizens are not listening to government firm advice now , sunbathing in parks still , mass bbqs in garages , once summer sets in harsher enforcerments will be imposed If the crisis escalates , The population had a chance to self govern but the majority disregarded official advice and what was happening around the world . Lots of social issues yet to come . The government if read all research papers all available still have no full understanding of the virus and how to contain it . If you look at all figures of global total deaths it seems low when compared to deaths from flu and other viruses etc All countries limiting tests to severe symptoms when could of stepped up production from chinas model data months previously . Governments still drip feeding information to the public . It seems it is a lot worse than they have released in information so far . The way it is spreading and with out tests , the only way to keep safe is to completely self isolate

However, we emphasise that is not at all certain that suppression will succeed long term; no public health intervention with such disruptive effects on society has been previously attempted for such a long duration of time. How populations and societies will respond remains unclear. As a follow up question, is there a line in the sand in terms of the number of lives that might be lost to the disease where your opinion would change, leading you to back the measures that have been taken? I appreciate that the numbers are nothing more than projections. The reason for my questions is that typically I would be very unhappy at the prospect of our liberties being suppressed in this way and would be agreeing with you in principle, but in this case I don't think I do and on balance I feel the measures taken have been necessary. If anything I wish they'd happened earlier. Personally speaking I don't know where my 'line' would have been, although I know that of course that the line exists. I suspect that the fact that the elderly / vulnerable are disproportionately affected has clouded my view. If we all had an equal fighting chance, it may be that I'd have been less in favour of the measures. But because the actions of the young and reckless may directly affect the outcome of the old and infirm, I feel that the fairly draconian measures are necessary. This is not just down to the number of deaths but if it were I think there would have to be a considerably higher mortality rate than other infectious diseases we have lived with to justify the reaction we have seen. I donโt think people really grasp just how many people die every day from all manner of illnesses and how the deaths from this disease are at this point statistically fairly insignificant. I believe when viewed over the course of a year we will not see any significant rise in mortality rates across the global population even if deaths rates from C-19 continue to rise. I donโt mean this callously and I know first hand the tragedy of losing someone to illness, Iโve suffered it many, many times and it was tremendously painful but death is a part of life and is inevitable, we have to think about how we want to live and the legacy we are leaving for those with their life still in front of them. None of these consequences seemed to have been properly weighed in a rational and pragmatic way.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by nobokov on Mar 26, 2020 3:26:12 GMT 1, It doesn't seem inherently racist to call it a Chinese virus if that's where it was born, but it just gives people who are already racist the excuse to act out or think that way. It's a shame we're all a bit racist.
That being said, no one needs to call it the Chinese virus unless you'd like to incite racism. Coronavirus is a pretty catchy alternative. Covid19 a bit less "catchy"
You have to remember that coronavirus is a type and c-19 is the strain. Itโs like saying itโs a flu. Personally, I feel people are overly sensitive. I donโt think back on the Spanish flu and think itโs racist. But, since we donโt categorize things culturally that way anymore, it seems unnecessary but not inaccurate. It sure would be nice though if people could get past stupids**t like people that look different and/or have opposite views and embrace that instead of trying to tell other people what to think, say, and how they should look. That would be AWESOME!
I agree that society is overly sensitive, but perhaps not in this case. When people are getting spit on and assaulted because a connection between the virus and asians have been encouraged, it's a terrible thing that should be discouraged. I think those who use the term Chinese Virus should be more sensitive to those who are negatively affected. it's only been a month or two of this being in the news so it's not that hard a habit to kick.
"Retard" on the other hand, I'm still trying to quit.

Britain had a heads up from all the other countries having the pandic escalated prior to infection hitting the uk yet the uk so slow to implement any of the procedures other countries have implemented The UK is not China we have our own unique circumstances and frankly Iโm unconvinced any country has dealt with this effectively. Time will tell.

People calling โChinese virusโ are from the same country where the so called โSpanish fluโ started USA. Did you know it started in Kansas? And us troops brought it to Europe by the end of ww1? And that it was censored everywhere because of war issues that it was only in press in Spain where there was no war? And thatโs the real reason of its name. Perspective please. Countries must contain. As US should have done in 1918 and didnt, causing millions deaths. And nobody is aiming them for that

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by pellets on Mar 26, 2020 11:40:15 GMT 1,
Its bananas thats its a bill to help large companies in a few months time rather than to get funding to medical facilities and people struggling to pay bills right now.
I definitely agree with the sentiment that there will be an even larger gulf between rich and poor after this.

I definitely agree with the sentiment that there will be an even larger gulf between rich and poor after this. I donโt like propping up corporations at all. The sad fact of it though is they really are too big to fail. Too many people are employed by them, the economy is too dependent on them. A complete economic collapse really could cost more lives than the virus, and from the stock market plunge that occurred before the bill I think if everything stayed closed for much longer we wouldnโt be far away from that.

Nice to see all countries helping each other out
The army and navy in all countries effected by the pandemic ,the governments are utilising their services for logistical transportation of food stock , managing the general public , producing medicines / sanitisers , assisting hospitals Russia deliberately using actions to cause a strain on the system ? Drawing a high percentage of needed personnel away from managing the present pandemic to manage the present national defence having a knock on effect with chain and supply , if this happened again at the peak of the pandit will cause alot of loss of life

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Wearology on Mar 26, 2020 12:30:35 GMT 1, The bill passed unanimously 100 - 0 in the senate. The only thing politicians can all agree on no matter their political affiliation is spending the peoples hard earned taxes. I am a proud American, but this 2.2 trillion dollar bill which they said is just the 1st of several bail out packages seems like an effort to save Wall Street and the politicians pet projects rather than assisting Main Street. Just loan every citizen above the age of 17 that makes less than $100,000 after taxes a year, a set amount of money for a set period of time and have it paid back interest free within 12 months time. I am not a Mathematician, but it is probably a couple thousand dollars per citizen. One issue with this bill is that in some states if you combine the monthly unemployment checks with the proposed relief checks some people will make more staying home per hour than ever going back to work.

I am not a Mathematician, but it is probably a couple thousand dollars per citizen. 195 Million Americans above the age of 17 had a job in 2019 in the United States. 195 million divided by 2.2 trillion is $11,300 per person and that number includes millionaires, billionaires and other individuals that make more than $100,000 after taxes a year. Sounds like money well spent. was it not $1000 per person? Think mentioned on news last night ? They estimate that the government is going to pump in between 6 - 10 trillion dollars to help save the economy when this is all said and done. Why not take that money and pay all the recently retired doctors, nurses and other medical care workers to come out of retirement and crush this bug and prepare for the next outbreak because there will definitely be another one and there is no way the global economy and citizenry can handle this annual epidemic.

The economic costs to run these fleets could be used for health care , if a Country planned to invade times as these are perfect
You would assume health care and national defence health would be set up on worse Case scenarios ? , all countries are now cracking .
Technology increases in every service /industrial/ manufacturing sector we have seen in the last 10 years will fall as investments and funds for new start ups will be now limited

Big businesses pump pension funds into the stock market to create returns for their pension funds , with the stock market falling or if crashed many will have lost their pensions or not recieve their projected income and will suffer and in return turn to the governments for assistance ,so in the government interest to support this for the long term
