Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by pellets on Mar 26, 2020 14:46:57 GMT 1,
This boils my blood. And any response to this is either way too weak (buy hats to allow them to spit on us) or way too extreme (hurting someone physically cos they coughed).
I think im a level headed person, but the justice that i want enacted in these people makes me worried about how quickly things can escalate when people are guided by their emotions.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Deleted on Mar 26, 2020 14:57:22 GMT 1, Beyond the art market, how has this began to effect everybody's daily routines??? I am in the US and my state was put on a mandatory stay at home shutdown until mid April the other day. Luckily we are pretty well stocked but it appears as though my office is closed through the middle of the month and we are now working from home until further notice. Things have changed dramatically over the course of a week. It's pretty scary to see looooong lines forming for the basics everywhere you go, and even scarier to think about how little time it took for the training wheels to fall off of society and how quickly everyone has gotten into a panic.
i am eating.... a lot

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Mar 26, 2020 15:08:47 GMT 1, My evening drink seems to have become a late afternoon drink.
Working in my partners studio in our back yard since her work has disappeared completely (for now).
I work in the glamorous world of waste water, so still have work for now.
Kids running around the house/garden, not learning much but generally playing nicely.
Still have toilet roll.

unfortunately in these areas reported that behaviour always happens even before this pandemic and as of the recent situation it is being highlighted
you have the separate issue of people playing up to social media posting videos and the part of society who have issues that are spitting on hand rails and lift buttons etc

already acknowledged under reporting of true cases
they do not know when a second wave will come or when mutations will occur for the worse
think they can base models and predictions once they have further / greater testing in THIS country not using other countries data

All true.
Interesting change from the massive doomsday initial model he put out.

Yeah, good to hear some positive/hopefully news, even if it is early and speculative.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Mar 26, 2020 18:16:14 GMT 1, By tomorrow the US will have the most recorded/reported coronavirus cases in the world (higher than China), and unfortunately it is still on a massive ascent, unemployment has gone up to 3.3 million from a previous high of 695k. Looking at Italy and other countries most of those active cases will still be active in two weeks time, there is not a cat in hells chance the US will be open for business for Easter.
This is going to take months to work its way through the population.
I hope that Trump is doing enough to contain this spread, from across the pond his view of the world seems at best delusional.

I can see this lasting for at least another year or more

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 26, 2020 20:26:29 GMT 1, Good to see this morning articles of makeshift virus hospitals being constructed in my home town back home and throughout West Wales. I presume this is happening throughout the UK, so it’s good to see the British government is taking it seriously.
Whereas here in Australia the government is so naive and prolonging decisions just to try not to crash the economy. Fuck that just lock down ASAP, health is way more important. The country needs a reset anyway to get rid of the greed.. yes jobs will be lost but health and lives are more important.
Stay safe people and stay inside 👍

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by tab1 on Mar 26, 2020 20:53:42 GMT 1, In Korea ,china and probably all other Asian countries they keep comparing the amount of cases of covid 19 and how they have dropped compared to Europe .
The citizens of the Asian countries listen to their governments requirements of lockdown because they are enforced harshly with physical means if they do not , villages in china were even locked in by police in their own homes In the uk after lockdowns people are still sunbathing and holding bbqs 🙄🙈 On the news today a family stopped by police on way to the seaside for a day out👍🤣

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by chichi carter on Mar 26, 2020 21:18:40 GMT 1, The government here in Quebec, Canada, hit the ground running quick. As of March 13 the science center where I work (which is operating under the federal government) was shut down until April 14, although my work group was supposed to keep on working doing maintenance. That only lasted a couple of days. On March 16 they shut it down completely, only maintaining essential services. This morning I received an email stating the shut down was extended until May 30. This situation is unprecedented in modern times. It's still early in the game but I can't help but think the provincial and federal governments of Quebec and Canada have been dealing with thiss**t show like f**kingchamps so far. Of course, there were some clear examples of what not to do and, conversely, what to do immediately. Until a few days ago my parents were still down in Florida and so were my sister, brother-in-law and nieces and nephew. While we were being told to stay home and keep our movements to a bare minimum in Montreal, people were still partying on the beaches of Miami. My sister and the gang cut their trip short and drove back in record time. I've never seen my parents pack up the house and drive back so quickly. My spouse is Italian and his whole family is down in Sicily. We talk to them daily, they're fine but... it's a nightmare. There will be an end to this but to think we'll be done with it by easter is laughable. Just when you think Trump has said the stupidest thing you've ever heard he tops himself. Fuckin' hell... Anyway, take care of yourselves and your loved ones fellow forumites. I can't help but laugh at the title of this thread now. I honestly could not care less about the effect it will have on the art market.

The majority of those were infected during early stages in the north of the country when protective equipment was lacking, just as it STILL IS here in the UK. I don't understand why so many health workers are victim. Surely they aren't 70+ of age, so most are not among the risk group.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Mar 26, 2020 22:46:18 GMT 1, Maybe being exposed to the worst of the worst for 10 or 12 hours a day has an impact? Also, the age group thing has been proven wrong. Look at the age groups in the USA that are dying from it.
I read something about viral load, it relates to the amount of virus in your blood at first infection directly relates to the severity of the illness you will suffer. I am not a doctor and this maybe some FB BS, or it may in part explain why doctors and nurses are being effected so badly.

Also, the age group thing has been proven wrong. Look at the age groups in the USA that are dying from it. That hasn’t been proven wrong at all, yes younger and even healthy people CAN die however the statistics are 100% clear that mortality rates are far higher in the elderly or people with existing health conditions. Baffles me how headlines seem to twist public perception.

That makes a good deal of sense, if the body is persistently exposed to the virus for a prolonged period the viral load will be higher which is likely to overwhelm the immune systems response and allow the more severe symptoms to come on quicker. I’d like to see what the experts said about it but there seems some logic

The majority of those were infected during early stages in the north of the country when protective equipment was lacking, just as it STILL IS here in the UK. That's terrifying. I'm sick of hearing excuses every time any politician opens their mouth about where the hell the protective gear is that the NHS staff desperately needed 3 weeks ago. Emily Maitles absolutely destroyed Nadhim Zahawi (off shore tax avoider) on Newsnight yesterday, if you missed it its worth a look. Im really not down with this 'Lord' Dyson ventilator scam either ...£jobs£ for the boys or should I say gentry. And I'm scared stupid of Handcocks 4000 capacity death camp at the excel centre. Just terrifying. They're all in it together link and have been for years.
On a more positive note the NHS got a huge reception on the streets of Hackney. People out banging saucepans, whooping, clapping and singing their support tonight at 8, it was genuinely very moving. I just wish it made a difference to the NHS getting the proper support they desperately need and deserve.

I just wish it made a difference to the NHS getting the proper support they desperately need and deserve. Some people are getting very, very rich off of all of this. When this blows over expect a consequence to be an even larger wealth gap, privatisation of the NHS, bigger tax breaks for multi nationals, further cuts to other public services, a much bigger tax burden for the middle and working class, reduced freedoms, rights and liberties especially for workers and consumers, a totally dysfunctional judicial system, I could go on but you know the play by now. Someone just threw a canister of petrol on the burning injustices.
39 Health workers have now died in Italy since the outbreak began. Some people are getting very, very rich off of all of this. It took all of six hours today for our lying, incompetent overlords to shift from claiming they’re not cooperating with the EU to procure ventilators “because we’re no longer in the EU” to now claiming actually it’s because they “didn’t get the email inviting us”. Both of the above are lies. Not mistakes, not errors, lies. What next? “The dog ate it”? Well I suppose all those body bags that they purchased end of last year under operation yellowhammer AKA Orwell Mayhem make sense now.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by LJCal on Mar 26, 2020 23:36:26 GMT 1, That hasn’t been proven wrong at all, yes younger and even healthy people CAN die however the statistics are 100% clear that mortality rates are far higher in the elderly or people with existing health conditions. Baffles me how headlines seem to twist public perception. Unrelated to this current reply (which I agree with you on), but following on from our discussion last night. I read this very well written article today and thought you might find it interesting, if you enjoy analysis. medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-the-hammer-and-the-dance-be9337092b56Note I’m not trying to change your mind or expecting some kind of rebuttal - whether or not we agree is really of no consequence to me of course - I just thought you may find it interesting if you haven’t read it already. Yes it is an interesting article, it’s largely informed by the Imperial study which I’m not entirely convinced is sound given that several rebuttals are now starting to surface. I don’t for one minute think this is an easy call, it’s unprecedented. Clearly doing nothing is not an option I’m just not all together convinced that the action taken to date is not prompted by panic and that we have put a lot of faith in the modelling of one paper without really weighing up the consequences of their recommendations or allowing proper scrutiny of their assumptions (which again are unprecedented). Part of me hopes I’m right and the risks have been overstated however I also fear for the consequences if they have got this wrong. It will kill public faith in modern science. Clearly if things carry on indefinitely on their current trajectory it will be a disaster in line with the Spanish flu and then the actions to date are proportionate (if not lacking) but several opinions are emerging that show this in all likelihood is not the case. Anyway time will tell and I do sympathise with the people having to make these calls, despite the fact many of them are utter shits.
