Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by eleuterio2020 on Aug 28, 2020 22:53:38 GMT 1, Happy to have generated a vivid discussion and I appreciate the warnings, anyway if you think I am using as it is a dusty frame, you know very little of framing and assume I am a stupid
Some clarifications: - it's not a question of money or scrimp on framing
- the second hand is only regarding the frame itself, this will not impact all that has to be done for a perfect maintenance and conservation as 99% glass, spacing etc. (my doubt is only still on the oval). I am just choosing to use not a new wood. Anyway I am completly confidend of the professional job that will be done.
- my mother has been framer and restorer for 30 years, I helped many times too, so I am not completly new and I want to partecipate in framing decision. By the way I framed London Calling Cover with ornate frame 15 years ago and still looks great to me (not a trap...) and incredibly matching with the Thrower
- last point, in the pictures of the original, or of the other Banksy framed works, the "visible re-use" of the frames (or even the intire paintings) is clearly in the his poetic, as per many other artists. So, sure of the quality and not ruined I am happy to mantain this tone of the opera adding my expereince and sensibility on it. Otherwise you are just framing three prints instead of creating a unique piece.

I agree with you on the last point. The frames are identical for all 3 pieces.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by sbash on Aug 28, 2020 23:23:49 GMT 1, My framer, who works directly with artists and museums, suggested me, against his own interest, to go in second hands markets and find frames that fits with Banksy idea, nothing new but reuse of existing. I found a couple and I am gonna keep not in perfect condition. It was a great suggestion. Sound fishy to me.. Your framer (if reputable) would provide an estimate of costs to be framed correctly, following the guidelines on the information sheet provided by Banksy. He would be able to arrange the suitable frames for the item at a cost The only way a framer would suggest you to look elsewhere for frames is due to the fact you didn't like his quote provided to frame it. Hence you likely do not have the cash on hand to have it framed correctly. Why you would entertain anything other than top quality framing and materials for this Thrower is beyond me. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.. I personally think it's a great shout to find/source vintage/antique frame. It is exactly the right tone and in my view completely aligned wt Banksys vision of how these should be framed.
He's only asking for the frames, so not really avoiding mounting and museum glass notes.
It 100% authentic .

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by chefd on Aug 29, 2020 9:12:29 GMT 1, What I like about the GDP framing is that the 3 different frames make it look like they were sourced separately second hand. Gives the piece a different feel than if it was framed in matching frames.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by iamzero on Aug 29, 2020 9:20:15 GMT 1, Sounds to me like your framer needs to consider a new career as a fishmonger or a scaffolder perhaps. Gonna need a sticky thread with Bignalls details on for all these new found lottery winners screwing up artwork.

He's very annoying, I think he's doing his best to protect his Palestine poster investment. I was hoping that was his Banksquiat print at Tate Ward and then peace would follow🙄

Could your grasp of cognitive biases be as poor as your ability to select a framer ?
Because compared to a guy who is proudly considering reclaimed frames for his thrower, anyone who has been within a mile radius of a mitre is an expert

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Aug 29, 2020 15:01:36 GMT 1, It sounds like euleterio2020 is talking about using antique frames, not just slicing open the back of an old frame job and whacking his prints in. Doesn't seem beyond the skills of a good framer to create something conservation standard that sits within an antique frame. Isn't it fairly routine to reuse beautiful antique frames? Sounds very in keeping with the piece to me.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by eleuterio2020 on Aug 29, 2020 18:03:09 GMT 1, voilà as far as I can see the oval is just gold hard paper. If you can use paper covered with gold sheets (the same used for the frames), this would reduce the missmatch with the frame and give, if you want, a better "dope effect".
Just a suggestion, or maybe it's the picture that makes the oval so different
Anyway congrats, I would like to see one without oval before I choose

Congrats on getting the print and on having it on the wall. This is the first framed one on the forum as far as I know. I think people expect that it will be framed similar to the framing Banksy selected, so variations may take a while to get used to. The main difference I see is that there is not much difference between the moulding on the three parts. I think it looks great though and must be amazing in the flesh.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Happy Shopper on Aug 29, 2020 18:18:47 GMT 1, I think this demonstrates a bit of an issue with trying to match Banksy’s spec... Can you get similar frames, and achieve the right look!? Are the ones used in his example vintage, or can they be bought? Otherwise you may as well go your own way with the framing.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Happy Shopper on Aug 29, 2020 18:20:59 GMT 1, Personally I would go for gold ornate frames but have them all float mounted on a black mat, with very little space between the print and the frame. Here is my Morons and then photoshopped to show you what I mean. This frame is too wide and probably too ornate, but you get the idea I think this frame is 4" wide, but they do one that is 3". I would see how it looks by having the very fancy 3" wide frame for the middle main image, and then the other 2 frames not as fancy or wide.
The issue with mounts and wider frames is you might not then be able to hang them near enough to each other, and he’ll look like he has oddly long arms! 😂
