Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by silvermyn on Feb 12, 2021 19:10:00 GMT 1, In 2011 I lost my job but still had a mortgage to pay. It was quite scary as I was 38 at the time and I'd never been out of work. I knew I couldn't get another job in my field quickly (had been trying already for about a year) and that I couldn't make it for more than 6 months on my savings. I made the difficult decision to sell a few prints and go back to uni to do a masters. I then retrained over two years (on minimum wage) and landed the job I always wanted. During that time I also met my wife. So I may have ended up on a blacklist for selling, if there is such a thing. I always meant to buy back what I'd sold but prices ran away. I will forever be grateful to POW and Banksy for giving me a safety net in some really affordable art. Without it, I would have been in huge trouble. It does, however, irk me a little to see these so called VIPs getting multiple sets of GDP works. I don't think they appreciate how much of a life saver high value items are to "regular" folks. Anyway, I lost some Banksys but I kept my home, gained a new career, a wife and we have two kids now. I also managed to hold on to my favourite print so it wasn't a complete loss. I will, no doubt, have to part with it one day as the kids grow up but for now it's a great reminder of how I got through a really difficult period. I'm not sure how things would have turned out for me if it wasn't for the generosity of Banksy and the POW team. It is greatly appreciated. As for the OP, GLWS but please put some of the proceeds towards a good cause too. It will make a difference. Respect to this. I am genuinely thrilled to have read this post.
Thanks runit, and thank you to everyone that liked the original post.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Gurn on Feb 12, 2021 20:26:47 GMT 1, I don't believe in the concept of VIP as used here. It suggests that the rich and well connected are important. They are less important than a student nurse on shit wages. To be frank, it bothers me that Banksy might embrace this elitism, especially if it ends in this way.I almost hope this is just a chancer trying to shift a wrongun.

You are mistaking 'wealthy collectors' for 'VIPs'...I suppose it depends who you are and who is important to you.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Rubberneck on Feb 12, 2021 20:49:27 GMT 1, Pest Control can't control every sale but they can see who has COA in their name and never sold a print. This way they can see who is selling what. Said that I think anybody in a difficult time and with a print stick on the wall that it is valued big money had the right to sell it. What I do not understand is people that had access to a private sell directly from PC selling just after few month that is totally unrespectfully. That is mostly what vips are now ?in the past a different crowd on the list.
Everything now is vetted by the pr team to serve a purpose
I do not know many people that could be contacted short and informed they have a limited time period to complete a purchase at 20-80k? So go in hand . Even the banksquaits vip at 20-40k with the artist unknown and the market could take a turn for any unexpected reason, unless your wealthy I do not think the average person would take that risk .

So, they are 'important' to Banksy and probably fund his pet projects. I tolerate that in the knowledge that the wealth is being redistributed to those in greater need.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Matt 2 ttaM on Feb 12, 2021 22:18:55 GMT 1, I dont think there is a real blacklist, Banksy sells art. However, trying to target genuine Banksy fans (who aren’t well off) amidst flippers is the issue. Banksy tries to reach genuine fans who want to appreciate and display his art such as through the Walled Off Hotel & the GDP with the lottery system. Problem is, it seems to work only 50% of the time.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Feb 12, 2021 23:03:52 GMT 1, I remember a person got taken off the 'offered' list a year or two ago when he sold a special one off print. He was involved back in the day with others helping Banksy and his people and had bought a lot of prints when offered.
Lots of artists and galleries look out for their clients who have been involved (investing) from the start, nothing wrong with this. It happens in a lot of markets.
Also there are forum members (early investors, friends of bansky, helpers early on etc.) here who were invited and made the trip to Bristol museum, exit through the gift shop and dismaland etc. Offered and bought amazing original pieces and prints direct.
I am guessing and obviously depends on circumstances but if they sell, they are likely to be removed from list?

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Arty Farty 15 on Feb 12, 2021 23:32:22 GMT 1, In summary, if you get invited to the banksy studio in 2019 the week after GDP closed, get first dibs on the GDP pieces and sell within five years, then you are black listed. VIPs include celebs but they also include those that bought originals in the early 2000s and hadn’t sold. You may think you’re getting a good deal but the opportunity cost is huge - you’ll never be invited to purchase from him again.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Sundowner on Feb 13, 2021 10:07:44 GMT 1, Either the OP is both incredibly naive and incredibly lucky or (more likely) this post is a wind-up designed to poke the hornets nest on here.
Everyone who is offered the opportunity to buy direct from PC/GDP knows the drill regarding discretion and strict no resell and believe me, they know everything that is going on in the marketplace and who is selling. Any credible collector with an ounce of sense is not going to try and sell on here - they will try far more discreet routes.
PoW definitely had a 'shitlist' of people who used to flip back in the day - I imagine it had got pretty extensive by the time the doors closed at the end of 2017....

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Runit on Feb 13, 2021 10:46:49 GMT 1, I don't believe in the concept of VIP as used here. It suggests that the rich and well connected are important. They are less important than a student nurse on shit wages. To be frank, it bothers me that Banksy might embrace this elitism, especially if it ends in this way.I almost hope this is just a chancer trying to shift a wrongun.
It’s a paradox of note and I’m with you on this but I understand the bigger picture at play, I’m sure it doesn’t sit well with the Banksy crew but I suspect there are a fair few wage bills that need paying and funding required for future projects.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Martin M on Feb 13, 2021 17:59:07 GMT 1, Pest Control can't control every sale but they can see who has COA in their name and never sold a print. This way they can see who is selling what. Said that I think anybody in a difficult time and with a print stick on the wall that it is valued big money had the right to sell it. What I do not understand is people that had access to a private sell directly from PC selling just after few month that is totally unrespectfully. In 2011 I lost my job but still had a mortgage to pay. Great post Sivermyn - good luck to you

If only there were another way for them to raise funds without resorting to VIP lists and courting wealthy buyers... 🤔
