Recommended Art Books, by thisisthesam on Feb 16, 2024 17:19:55 GMT 1, My copy of the Dragon Bar arrived today. I actually thought it was going to be a written book (and just a few pictures) describing the history of the Dragon Bar, but instead it is about 80% pictures, a shortish intro about the Dragon Bar and then stacks of quotes/mini stories from the who’s who of the street art scene at the time. Also, plenty more pictures of toilets for those of you who are into that kind of thing. 😉 It’s a bit bigger than I expected so I’ve shown a photo of it next to Cut & Run. Even though it is different than I originally thought, I’m glad I purchased and probably worth £40. Definitely an essential one for the art bookshelf. Now you've had it a week - still worth the money? Thinking about buying one.

I always appreciate the notifications/recommendations on the book thread, I'm not the best with my tech, so find this thread a brilliant source of decent books.
Never let me down yet.
There have been some brilliant posts/contributions, hopefully these continue.

Recommended Art Books, by SFBM on Mar 3, 2024 12:59:37 GMT 1, It’s probably been mentioned here before but I’ve just read Antony Gormley on Sculpture which I’d recommend to anyone with an interest in his work
“ The book is structured thematically over four chapters: the first explores Gormley’s thoughts on the body, time and space in relation to major works including European Field (1993) and ‘Still Standing’ (2011), Gormley’s rehang of the classical rooms at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.
The second chapter, ‘Sculptors’, was first delivered as a series of five lectures for the BBC; in each, Gormley discusses a sculpture he considers to be of huge creative importance: Epstein’s The Rock Drill (1913–15), Brancusi’s The Endless Column (1935–38), Giacometti’s La Place (1948–49), Joseph Beuys’s Plight (1985) and Richard Serra’s The Matter of Time (2005).
In the third chapter, Gormley outlines the influence of Buddhist and Jain sculpture on his work and ideas, and the fourth showcases the artist’s most recent sculptures.”

Recommended Art Books, by Acme Thunderer on Mar 19, 2024 19:56:13 GMT 1, Ok, this is a slightly different way to start a book review, but if you have not yet bought this book, get your credit card and go to the link below and order it now.
postmark.ukrposhta.ua/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=5864
Don’t grumble about the price, or the cost of postage, and don’t even think if you need or want it. After you have bought it, just feel a bit better about yourself that you have made a donation to help the people in Ukraine.
Rant over… and now to the book. I thought I had a box with a couple of bricks delivered as it was so heavy. This is a chunky book that would probably finish Putin off if you hit him with it. The actual quality of the book (binding/paper etc.) is genuinely better most books you will already own. There is stuff about the stamps, but there is plenty about Banksy’s other works in Ukraine and how these have developed. There is a stark reminder about how the war has impacted this country, which is why there is no harm buying the book to do a little to help.
In summary, it is 100% better than I expected as I thought it would be 300 pages about a stamp release. I’m confident to say, you won’t be disappointed if you bought it. 🙌
First photo is with the framed stamp so you can see how big it. Last photo is my favourite.
