You think patents on the vaccine would be released / ceased during the pandemic , western countries may be immunised and eradicate the strain in their home countries But then another Highly Form of aggressive variant strain could enter the population From one of the other countries that is not part of the first wave Of the immunisation programme Into the west .
It makes more sense to build Up stocks Of the vaccine and start Immunisation globally at the same time , other wise it will be stop
Start for the next five years unless flights to other countries are closed until 80 % Of their population is immunised which is impossible for the economy .
And what effect will vaccines have on our bodies if need to take multiple different vaccines if the virus mutates so much , no long term studies conducted ?
The high risk groups are India and south Africa presently with the new strain ,won’t be long until Brazil and Argentina and Italy joins the list , many do not adhere to government advice as seen by all cultures around the world ,these groups often live in large extended family groups in condensed settings and many from these groups are based in London and fly frequently to their homelands and family fly vice versa to visit which would cause an explosion in transmission rates .
There needs to be more of a global strategy not a reactive policy in place as clearly each country now has specific strains which are a higher mortality rate and Highly transmissible Than the previous virus strains And now reported all age groups effected .
Once the flu season peaks and everyone is coughing and sneezing the spike will overload the nhs again.

With Europe and America greatly effected by Covid 19 with the economy By closing down sectors it would not be in their interests to lose Business sectors To foreign countries hence they have petitioned to keep patents in place although releasing patents would help upscale manufacture of the vaccine and meet global demand and meet the demand of their countries sooner , the west is already over purchasing supplies of the vaccine .
With the total cost of the pandemic to be revealed at the tax year end , through the pharmaceutical companies the governments will regain their spending through this period through holding the patents and supplying global demand , with supplying the vaccine to the entire global population yearly for the next 5-10 years ? The financial profit would be a scale not seen before

Not all are airheads Or arrogant and lack conceptual thought on this forum

Many shocking failures by the uk government in handling this pandemic right from the start
With the most serious action made from the beginning of not maintaining and following the pre planning pandemic document policy that was set for such a scenario set many years ago
All will become evident in a Public Enquiry in probably 5 years time as it is forecast from scientist advisors another two years to get on top of the global pandemic to sustainable levels
The problem delaying progress is the developed countries hoarding selfishly vaccines only for their populations whilst the developing world has no program of vaccines set in place .
Which has already been highlighted by not having equal distributions of the vaccine and initiations universally equal globally a variant strain of the virus can develop and and waste all the previous vaccine developments.in
In the meantime more variants can develop as the track and trace system is still not fully functional
As shown the new South African strain can out maneuver the present vaccines defenses .
Billions of of pounds wasted and time wasted in development and economies to suffer more as extended lockdowns set to continue as the rush to alter existing vaccines to combat variant strains of the virus

If only the UK was an island and we could close our borders... The easiest and quickest way to drop transmissions but the money lost in trade is more of a concern than loss of life of the highest prone groups to death which is the elderly |

And now temporarily ceased the vaccine in four European countries after trialing the vaccine on the elderly and high risk groups first by releasing mass population vaccination to these groups Currently this mishandling and rushing through the vaccine and releasing this current news will be causing great stress and anxiety to a few that have already had the vaccine and those with pre existing heart conditions .press management is not the best. |

Even if it’s been given to millions of people, the products have been rushed through development as the world is in a crisis.
America and the uk governments have both stated developments of these new types of drugs usually take 5-10 years to develop, of course short cuts were taken.
There are many medicines over the decades that were given to many millions of individuals that have caused death and harm as people react differently to drugs than in a sample study/group that are mostly healthy individuals with no pre conditions of any health issues
