Is ir worth buying KAWS figurines?, by irl1 on Jun 9, 2020 16:51:44 GMT 1, Oh I know he's had sales in the millions ($14.7 mil) but he has took a little turn in the last year. These vinyls will sell out at 5pm but they won't get what they were getting on the secondary market a year or so back is it cheaper to buy one on the secondary market? I heard thereโs a ton of fakes so itโs always put me off.

I'm not sure where people are seeing falling prices. As far as sculptures, I think the only underwhelming results I have seen are for the No Future Companion, which should have been at 20k USD by now but is well under that. Most under performing lots I have seen have either no packaging or some damage. I definitely feel like his original releases will continue to rise in value, especially if you have solid provenance, packaging, and the item is in great condition. Open editions have become boring and repetitive, and I definitely would not recommend buying those from an "investment" standpoint. My recommendation would be to buy either:
- Any wood / bronze edition
- Pinocchio
- Star Wars pieces
- Accomplice
- Astro (Red)
- Any 5 YL with solid provenance

Donโt own any Kaws and these little guys keep pulling me in. What time in the uk are they going up? And how expensive will they be? Also how much should I expect import fees to be. I don't agree with that. For some reason the new release OE are doing much better. I think it could be the fact that the packaging comes in boxes now vs a plastic bag.
Anyway buying OE Kaws makes sense if you really like the piece. Not for resale.

Till then, their cultural capital will be pegged with these apps. Smart move would be to follow the money. Kaws aside for a moment, I feel like instagram fuelled the rise of what I like to call the, "pretty, mediocre artists". You know the ones, the kind of people that look good when draped over a porsche. Their instagram full of pictures of them looking stylish and broody at all the best parties and brands. You'll scroll and scroll, looking for actual pictures of their actual artwork, and you'll find some, but not until you've sat through a million well-shot images of them in a New York loft apartment. Their social media full of the artist, but not so much of the art. Anyway, I'm just jealous and salty. edit: All I'm saying is, you try making it as an ugly and socially-awkward artist nowadays.
