For the sake of transparency, here is what real world analytics look like: Joe Biden will win the US Election, and Republicans will maintain control of the US Senate. This will provide leadership that is more capable of addressing the coronavirus and its effects on the US/global economy while maintaining the Trump tax code in the US and preventing the enactment of tax plans like the USA CGT. As a result, the US stock market will skyrocket. With the US stock market rallying for the next two years, the value and desirability of alternative investments - which were being viewed as a safe harbor from the covid market - will decrease. Market participants will look to liquidate assets in order to inject more into the stock market.

Desire, not need. Otherwise participants face reinvestment losses.

Was thinking about this again overnight and vehemently disagree. The world is creating $20trillion of new debt this year. Next year will be lower but will still be many $tr of new fiat. Unfortunately COVID has accelerated a horrible trend of debasement. What does this mean? There is an (unbelievable) and by that I mean you can’t even imagine amount of money looking for stores of value. One amazing change is certain hard assets (e.g. airport and transport infrastructure) is now no longer viewed as safe. Very big asset allocators are trying to protect - E.g fidelity getting into Crypto. The most meaningful move in capital markets in last 2 days is the rally in government bonds and flattening of yield curves; less fiscal stimulus (investment In infrastructure etc.) more more more Quantitative easing.

Art which for whatever reason is viewed as premium and even better growth will go into a huge bubble. The problem with bubbles is not only calling the top but actually appreciating how ludicrously high the top can be. In this case one can coherently argue it will not be a bubble at all but that the USD is just worth a lot less than it was so we can go LUDICROUSLY high. An important other point is art is illiquid and a small number of motivated buyers will move things a lot, a large number of motivated buyers .... will this bring out sellers, sure but that is no different than the massive appreciations elsewhere which keep going. There may be drawdowns (declines) in price but the trend is up, up, up.

Tech stocks rallied yesterday because of lower likelihood of Tax and Regulation. They rallied for the last six months because they are price setters, value adders and hedges against currency debasement.

Yep. Always had people getting giddy over auction results, Commenting on the prices on eBay, speculating as to when the bubble will burst and people passing off opinion as fact.

I think most are unaware that banksy prints exist. A mate of mine (who is Bristol born and bred) wondered how you could own graffiti sprayed on the street.

If I was lucky enough to pick up, let's say, a gwrb and parade it up and down the street I live on, then i suspect 95% wouldn't offer me more than a couple of hundred quid for it. One guy has a Kate Moss, so I suspect he'd be a bit more generous, but the vast majority wouldn't care.

Not that it's different for any other artist... But all the discussions about works, prices, drops etc that we obsess about are very much minority conversations.
