Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Deleted on Dec 8, 2014 22:50:23 GMT 1, Some Picasso prints and lino cuts are mega money.
Lithos are cheaper.
Banksy prices are on a par with Dali editions but Dali did make a lot more prints.
Banksy making a signed and unsigned edition of the same image is a big edition altogether.
I doubt his prices will go down simply because of the large amount of publicity in the mainstream media which has established his name as a global brand like Hirst, Warhol, Koons etc.
As long as there are big dealers out there to keep the market going and Bambi doesn't get too much global press write ups Banksy will keep on selling.
Dealers will always look for the next art trend to hype and promote and make money out of and create a buzz for a while.
Sort of to drain a few hedge funds and exchange some shit on canvas etc for a million bucks etc.
Whether he is just clever and milking it knowing buyers will buy signed for a price and the same image for another price seems to be clever marketing.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Matt on Dec 8, 2014 22:52:01 GMT 1, My 2c (but what do I know ?)
Will they keep on rising that fast ? Probably not. Nothing to do with Banksy, but at some point the number of out priced amateurs will be too big to sustain the raise, the next big thing will start appearing, other factors will add to this (like people actually thinking about how much they really like an image vs. like owning a Banksy when it isn't a "thing" anymoreโฆ)
Will they therefore drop dramatically ? Probably not, maybe a few desperate people will sell at desperate prices but that won't be the norm.
Can Banksy destroy his own market value with a crazy stunt ? Yes, but I'm not sure what would motivate him / her / them to do thatโฆ
I'm no fan of LIITA or PF, but if you have grown tired of your Turf War you know where to find me :-)

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by sommguy on Dec 9, 2014 7:00:03 GMT 1, I'll jump on board and get in line when you want to sell. I'm looking for happy copper, laugh now, radar rat all signed. But there really isn't print that i don't appreciate. well.... the LA show prints don't move really. Grannies and Trolleys, thats a bout it from that show...just my 2 cents.
My rule: don't buy it unless you like it. and if you look at your art like money, well..... that's your problem. You should look at it as art. because at the end of the day, it's still just a signed print.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 9, 2014 7:49:58 GMT 1, If he's ever outed it could have a damaging affect in my opinion, but seems he's doing quite well at the moment covering his tracks..As said before its supply and demand and there's not much supply, he seems flavour of the month with the rich clients also. The lower end prints are increasing as they are still within reach of the working class (after they save hard!!).
And yes the brand is managed so well banksy in art history will be up there with Warhol. Just wonder what's left he can do, he will surprise for sure. Huge show in china must be on the cards, imagine the demand after that and the fakes!!

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by sommguy on Dec 9, 2014 7:55:31 GMT 1, I would hope Banksy would not go and trade on his name with the communists, in China... its a bit like taking a step (edit) backwards... have you heard of the suicide nets in the factories there. real human slavery going on over there.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Deleted on Dec 9, 2014 11:52:00 GMT 1, it is hyped cos of boards like this, cos of fuckin buzzfeed, cos of fucking design magazines, because of the utter lack of original fucking thought and ideas in the heads of most people who think they is sophisticated and have their fingers on our cultural pulse, a grip on that ephemeral bastard zeitgheiest.
Thye are shitty screenprints with usually weak one off lolz images that would bore the tits off you if it were not a fucking conversation price every time some 30 something cultural gunslinger/ t**t pops into your gaff
* may contain bad language

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by eschiff on Dec 9, 2014 11:56:34 GMT 1, there's a difference between hype and popularity right?
I would think hype would mean the promotion of a thing (artist, bar, restaurant, whatever) that has little or no substance. Think x factor, or celebrity get me out of here, or many of the artists promoted on here that haven't done anything in the art world yet promote screen prints in 8 different colours of 4 different mediums for 250 quid. That's hype.
What banksy has cultivated is popularity based on being the best at what he does. I think the question is better framed - Banksy, will his popularity wane?

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Deleted on Dec 9, 2014 13:43:13 GMT 1, maybe it's not hype? maybe he has an enourmous (and growing) fan base because people love what he does?
street art is the punk rock of the art world. it's not going anywhere. it's just going to get bigger (and sadly, more commercialized, though Banksy has never been a hypocrite and avoids "selling out"/cashing in unlike many other street artists)

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by James on Dec 9, 2014 14:43:41 GMT 1, Buyers, Hyperโs, flipper, collectors, investors all go hand in hand. I believe this forum crates its own bubble. Take Dot Dot Dot I wasnโt practically a fan I do like the Hand Gun, but other than that I donโt like really like any of his other work, but I got hyped so I ordered a Napoleon lime. I was a little unsure, but I didnโt have the time to really think about it so I pulled the trigger quick, after receiving it I didnโt like it at all so I planned to pass it on for cost, but the buyer pulled out so I kept it for six months then sold it for ยฃ425 now you can pick one up for ยฃ200 sorry. So it leads me to think what about Conor Harrington I know theyโre completely different leagues, but I do believe we have a bit of a CH bubble going on now. I own a few CHโs myself and as my taste has matured I feel his style of work suits me more these days than the likes of dot. The Unveiling was an interesting sale as I missed out on this and had to buy form a forum member. I had so many offers in the end I paid less that I was offering in my wanted add I suppose this shows how many people didnโt like the print or more likely how many flippers are out there. It was only a year or two ago you could buy almost every CH print at cost. I personally donโt believe heโs the next Mr B, but I know a few people who do who I take seriously one thing I do believe he has a lot of mileage.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Deleted on Dec 9, 2014 14:52:43 GMT 1, I would hope Banksy would not go and trade on his name with the communists, in China... its a bit like taking a step (edit) backwards... have you heard of the suicide nets in the factories there. real human slavery going on over there. On the Banksy clothing thread I asked if the made in Honduras garments are ethical and of course got no reply.
Same when I asked a question about Nuart Festival, no reply again.
Does banksy really care about what people think.
I doubt it.
Is he anonymous because he has the police after him for vandalism?
I doubt it.
He visits USA whenever he feels like it so obviously has no type of criminal record that would exempt him from entering the USA.
When I found out his Morons print wasn't drawn by him but just stolen from a Vauxhall car ad, and his trolleys etc were just photo stencils and other prints too like applause.
It's not great art but can see how people who don't realise it's not original art might think Banksy is great.
Just out of curiosity, was banksy the first person to make stencils on the street in UK Blek style or have other people done it before him?

You sound so bitter ploppi, with these constant unending digs at Banksy, an artist whose work many people on here admire. I can see the originality in what he does. The fact that there is image source material or someone else who stencilled first matters not a jot

My points are valid and why should it make any difference to me if some people admire or do not admire an artist?
On the other hand you aren't one of those people who buys a dog and when it's pointe dout, refuse to acknowledge the fact and will always convince yourself it's not a dog?
People say Banksy has a social conscience etc etc so I just asked if the Honduras made T shirts sold in USA were from ethical source?
If you prefer to attack me rather than answer my valid points, it says a lot.
AlbertFackshake made some good points and critical too but you nevr attack him.
It's clear you attack me cos you are jealous (or Banksy)
and no Banksy will never be bigger than Picasso.
Believe it or not outside this forum and a few trendy blogs and articles not that many people have heard of Banksy.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by hnkpnk on Dec 9, 2014 15:43:29 GMT 1, On the Banksy clothing thread I asked if the made in Honduras garments are ethical and of course got no reply. Of course you got no reply. It was made by Griffin (not Banksy) about ten years ago, so who knows? You make it sound as if it's a conspiracy that you didn't get an answer.
When I found out his Morons print wasn't drawn by him but just stolen from a Vauxhall car ad, and his trolleys etc were just photo stencils and other prints too like applause. Yes I believe it was drawn by him. But from a photograph. The pic you refer to is of the Vauxhall ad with the Morons print superimposed on top.
Edit: I don't know why I bother.

Just out of curiosity, was banksy the first person to make stencils on the street in UK Blek style or have other people done it before him?
I have little doubt that I'm going to regret wading in on this thread, but it's a bit laughable to suggest that Morons was stolen from a Vauxhall car ad. The Vauxhall ad featured a photograph with Van Gogh's Sunflowers; Banksy's piece featured a drawing with the words 'I Can't Believe You Morons Actually Buy This s**t'. They're rendered entirely differently and conceptually they're at opposite ends of a spectrum. They both make use of the same source material but that's the whole point; that image of Christie's auction room was a symbol of the greed of Thatcherism.
Personally, I think the link between Blek le Rat and Banksy is much over played. Banksy started using stencils in the latter half of the 1990s when the internet wasn't what it is now and when there were very few links between Bristol's and Paris' graffiti scenes. Personally, I think it's far more likely that Banksy's use of stencils was influenced by 3D, who in turn was influenced by Gee Vaucher.
There might be an interesting discussion to be had here but fortunately I know the way these threads descend so this'll be my only post on the thread except to say that nothing that Coach has posted here or anywhere else on this forum bears any resemblance to an attack, so it's a shame you should try and tar such a good guy with that brush.
I have little doubt that I'm going to regret wading in on this thread, but it's a bit laughable to suggest that Morons was stolen from a Vauxhall car ad. The Vauxhall ad featured a photograph with Van Gogh's Sunflowers; Banksy's piece featured a drawing with the words ' I Can't Believe You Morons Actually Buy This s**t'. Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 9, 2014 16:57:04 GMT 1,
ย ย My points are valid and why should it make any difference to me if some people admire or do not admire an artist?
ย ย On the other hand you aren't one of those people who buys a dog and when it's pointe dout, refuse to acknowledge the fact and will always convince yourself it's not a dog?
ย ย People say Banksy has a social conscience etc etc so I just asked if the Honduras made T shirts sold in USA were from ethical source?
ย If you prefer to attack me rather than answer my valid points, it says a lot.
AlbertFackshake made some good points and critical too but you nevr attack him.
ย It's clear you attack me cos you are jealous (or Banksy)
ย and no Banksy will never be bigger than Picasso.
Believe it or not outside this forum and a few trendy blogs and articles not that many people have heard of Banksy. ย
In the many years that I have been posting here I don't think I've ever before been accused of attacking someone. I am sorry if that is how you feel. My post was not intended as a personal attack.
Nasty Coach!!

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 9, 2014 17:01:27 GMT 1, it is hyped cos of boards like this, cos of f**kin buzzfeed, cos of f**king design magazines, because of the utter lack of original f**king thought and ideas in the heads of most people who think they is sophisticated and have their fingers on our cultural pulse, a grip on that ephemeral bastard zeitgheiest. Thye are s**tty screenprints with usually weak one off lolz images that would bore the tits off you if it were not a f**king conversation price every time some 30 something cultural gunslinger/ t**t pops into your gaff * may contain bad language [

IMO most, if not all of the Art world and those involved therein have heard of the little shite.
Just for starters.

You must live in a very insulated world where your head and opinion reign supreme... Banksy is THE most well known artist in the urban contemporary/street art world... period. You may not appreciate him or the value now set to his work, but my suggestion would be for you to open your eyes a bit more and look past what you hold to be true and see what is actually true...

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by sgolby on Dec 9, 2014 19:36:59 GMT 1, Also, I was just rereading this thread, and i have no clue why anyone would think him being outed would have a negative effect on the price of his work. Do we really think his prices are so high because he is anonymous, or because of the lack of work available to purchase, and because of the quality of the work he puts forth... Also, him being outed just means people would have a name to go by, other than Mr B... it wouldn't mean that the market is flooded with Banksy product, his prices are high because of the demand. I would argue the demand has little to nothing to do with who he is at this point, and everything to do with the work itself... Sorry, but I just don't see it...

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 9, 2014 21:03:11 GMT 1, I disagree once he is outed it will have a huge impact. People love the mystique of not knowing who he is. This totally makes his work more appealing. I don't think he'd half 500k people go to his museum show If he was a known artist? When people new to his art first see a banksy on the street or in some one's home, first statement Is 'its amazing no one knows who he is'...
Also look at the controversial pieces he has done in the past ie. wikileaks etc. and he's thrown his weight around and backed things like the Russian artists, Syria etc.. Which is great but would anyone care if say another big name shepard fairey did this? Doubt it, it wouldn't make the press. Banksy is popular due to his art he puts out, the books, movie and the cheekiness of it - putting pieces up in galleries .. he gets way with it because of his anonymity and he will be around for a while. But things will change when if they found out who he is and he appears on day time tv talking about it all over a cup of tea with Richard and Judy it could all become boring.

I disagree wholeheartedly... Banksy is a celebrity, anonymous or not. Look at mr brainwash... He is outed and has proven that he is an attention whore anf his works are up there in price, not matter the stupid shit he does.... Banksy is the other way around... If he is outed it won't be because he wanted to be outed... Invader was arrested and outed and he is doing fine...
The mystique of banksy is less "how does he stay anonymous," and more "how did he come up with and execute that so well,". Both idea and placement.
As for your comment about international causes... Again outed or not means nothing... People appreciate MrB because of his ploicitcal stances, so no hurt there... IMHO

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by James on Dec 9, 2014 22:11:29 GMT 1, If that day comes he will be charged with criminal damage amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds just like TOX. Loads coppers out there would love to be the one who catches him, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an on going jackpot at at London transport police headquarters.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 9, 2014 22:14:28 GMT 1, lets just see how things pan out. Short term we can agree his prices (the banksy market) will keep going up, maybe level off but can't see them dropping anytime soon.. Cheers
