Christie's Art Auctions , by mmmike on Jun 19, 2011 21:39:18 GMT 1, I saw this auction and it blew me away.
www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?from=salesummary&intObjectID=5459691&sid=d00f6a58-1f72-4550-a6f8-68b83b60b33a
It raised the question for me, is this the worst value in the history of art?
I wouldn't mind seeing other nominations. The art must both be terrible and at a terrible price.
This Kelly Walker piece will be tough to beat. First off it looks terrible. Some toothpaste smashed on a magazine cover. But it doesn't stop there, you are not even buying the original, you are buying a CD with a picture of the this disaster saved on it. Then check out the estimate.
Well done Kelley Walker, you make Mr. Brainwash look good.

Christie's Art Auctions , by tobaum on Jun 20, 2011 15:58:54 GMT 1, FYI
Kelley Walker โs schema... recodes the interpretation of media. Using the front cover of King magazine, a publication vocal in its support of curvaceous women (rather than the mainstream too-thin ideal) as a proactive statement, Walker bathes hip-hop diva Trina in a variety of dental products (promising extra whitening effects). Using wry humour, Walker examines the underlying politics of ethnic and sexual representation as marketing strategies. Printing his digitised photos onto traditional canvases, Kelley Walker frames the disposable transience of advertising in the realm of high art; the immediacy of his images gains momentum as objects of critical contemplation, and lasting icons of social representation.
Source: www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/artpages/kelley_walker_aquafresh2.htm
I don't like it but I wanted to know more.
I can't imagine buying a cdrom with art on it. Technologies evolve too fast. Imagine being the proud owner of a videotape...

Christie's Art Auctions , by Martin M on Jul 17, 2011 20:46:37 GMT 1, To be cynical, If it was by Banksy it would sell out in seconds and their would be 100 or more pages on here discussing the value, flippers, how to release it, where its released, when its released, their would be very little discussion about the image, look at the 150 plus pages about CYW!.............Funny old world is the art world!

Christie's Art Auctions , by Martin M on Jul 17, 2011 22:24:39 GMT 1, Hey Artcollector Only an opinion!. So if Banksy released that image would you buy it?, do you think the whole edition would remain unsold...I think not. Pesonally its not to my taste but the argument that a cirtain picture is crap could go on forever, especially with the birth of contemporary art it seems more often to be more "who`s it by" (and by the way i didn't but it!)

Christie's Art Auctions , by artcollector on Jul 17, 2011 22:40:30 GMT 1, Hey! No I personally wouldn't but I might be a minority on here. Look at the forum every day but only actually message now and again. I long for the days when galleries POW included released something and you had a couple of weeks to make a decision or even save the money. You're right that some people buy now and think later. The artwork mentioned above it hideous and surely if it was an edition of 1000 by a more reputable artist, I hope it wouldn't sell out. Anyway no offence.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Martin M on Jul 18, 2011 10:23:06 GMT 1, No offense taken Artcollector, and I agree that it would be a joy to peruse over many releases from the galleries on this forum, I always prefer to buy at auction as you get the catalogue, you have time to look at everything and do a bit of research, often things jump out at you, purely for the image itself, I have bought a lot like this and still like all of them on the wall, I bought Bombhugger from Bonhams years ago completely on the image, I still love it (so does the wife!) and I will never sell it, I had little idea who Banksy was at the time. Cheers, M
