Christie's Art Auctions , by Winter on Aug 19, 2020 17:15:02 GMT 1, Large Harland painting sold for £47.5k or you could buy a hand-finished print from White Cube for £80K! Wonder how long they're going to get away with that.

It looks like it.
A £425 print just sold for £42,500, or thereabouts. Incredible.

My bad. BP was included in the final price so a jot less that £40k.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Deleted on Aug 19, 2020 17:43:43 GMT 1, I do. I love a lot of things I can't afford. I love Ferraris also but don't pick one up every weekend But yes, I agree with the crazy HF print pricing compared to originals results. Race isn't over yet though. I still don't really understand why this happens (i.e. when print prices are strong but the originals aren't ) and whether it's a sign that a) the originals are underpriced or b) the prints are overpriced and the artist doesn't have long term staying power in the 'art world'. Specifically thinking of David Shrigley, Connor Brothers etc. Anyone got any insights? I don't think this applies so much to Shrigley, but with the Connor Brothers there's really very little difference between a print and an original. As everyone knows, they don't do the book paintings themselves, so the 'originals' are still just prints of the main image with some paint daubed around it. I used to own a small one and the only hand-painted bit was some pink paint. They're more like hand-finished prints. They do a few pieces that are wholly original paintings, in the style of pulp fiction covers, but they're absolutely awful. They, or their team, can't properly imitate the very particular pulp fiction style.
Also think there are some artists who are just print artists. They make pleasing images but that's it. If you don't see extra detail from the artist's brushwork/spray marks, or they're not such a fascinating character that it feels special just to know they touched the work, why pay vastly more for an original?
Just my thoughts and I'm sure others would disagree.

Even if that's including BP it's high and if not closer to 42,000. Wowzers.
