Christie's Art Auctions , by manchestermike on Jun 10, 2008 17:18:29 GMT 1, Frankly Christie's are not the place to sell Banksy prints, I think it's the first time they have offered them. For me the best London print sale is Bloomsbury Auctions. It's not an Urban art sale, but a mixed one and generally they get pretty good prices.
Agreed, wrong sale at the wrong auction house... wish I knew about this one though, that Happy Choppers is an absolute steal

Christie's Art Auctions , by They call me Stephen on Jun 10, 2008 17:32:58 GMT 1, any bubble bursting will only really threathen those looking to make a quick buck in the short term future. I for one am looking forward to a calming of prices...it might allow me to pick up prints that otherwise would have been unobtainable and that is a very good thing!! (for me anyway)

Christie's Art Auctions , by jones27 on Jun 10, 2008 17:45:04 GMT 1, Its all this 'comtemporary art' talk (mainly about prices and auction houses) which is actually boring..Sadly its happening with Faile too..I hope things calm down, surely the days of getting excited about spoting a new Banksy down Ladbroke grove and getting the opportunity to simply pick up a print off the net is much more fun.

That is an unbeliveable bargain. One of, if not the best Banksy print. This price will look like chicken change come the next few years. wait til you see this rolled out at auction in 2030 going for near ยฃ100K (and that's not huge inflation now til then)

I think they're both on the same piece of board, one on either side, if so be it'd be a bit odd to sell them to different buyers

Christie's Art Auctions , by angryboy on Jun 12, 2008 15:55:16 GMT 1, Isn't ยฃ5,250 to ยฃ100,000 in 22 years and average annual rate of growth of 14%? That's less than a Warhol Mao print has gone up by (19% per year) on average over the last 30 years.
So saying to get to it's ยฃ5250 it's done a fairly huge bit of growth already.

thank you, these were my thoughts - and only with certain Banksy prints as not all will have staying power, this is one that I believe will and can.

Christie's Art Auctions , by lee3 on Jun 12, 2008 17:15:52 GMT 1, There is some BEAUTIFIUL work in that auction. Sotheby's also has a great lot of 3 iconic Bancksy's from the LA show (love is in the air, laugh now, and bomb hugger) esimated at $200-$300k. I'm sure dealers and collectors alike will be all over that lot.

Folks, let's get real here for a moment. You are citing one of the most famous/iconic images from the most important artist of the second half of the 20th century as your baseline comparison for the performance of a print from Banksy over the next 20 years? I know this is a Banksy board and we all love his work BUT I doubt we will ever see a bull market in art like the one we've witnessed over the past 10 years ever again in our lives.
Banksy has a WAYS to go, but I'll just give you for the sake of argument that Banksy becoms the most important artsist of the first half of the 21st century (BIG if).
Take a look at what Warhol Mao's traded for in 1998 from '78 and your annualized return will drop SIGNIFICANTLY. The art market has gone parabolic over the past 5 years and this simply will not continue long term. This asset class will have its crash too in the future. Warhol Mao canvases could be purchased for $150-$200k just 3 years ago and now they trade between $1 and $2.5 million. That kind of growth is not sustainable long term.

Christie's Art Auctions , by angryboy on Jun 12, 2008 18:33:43 GMT 1, I don't actually think it will happen, if I did I'd be buying lots of Banksy pieces with all my savings. It was more a reference to the powers of compounding over long periods of time and how crazy sounding amounts can be achievable.
