Christie's Art Auctions , by Lord Lucas Roham on Mar 30, 2021 10:20:17 GMT 1, I reckon that this auction is the end of the line for price rise of Banksy prints.
A correction in the market was due, I suggest that this is it.
With 4 hours to go prices are stagnant and most of the USA haven't woken up yet.

I think at worst itโs a pause and consolidation - take a 12 month backward view and perspectives might change.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Carl Cashman Art on Mar 30, 2021 12:09:25 GMT 1, I reckon that this auction is the end of the line for price rise of Banksy prints. A correction in the market was due, I suggest that this is it. With 4 hours to go prices are stagnant and most of the USA haven't woken up yet. Or.... things can't quadruple in value every single year or rise with every auction. Weirdly nobody buys a house today expecting to flip it for multiple times of the cost in just a few months indefinitely.

Christie's Art Auctions , by JFCC on Mar 30, 2021 12:11:26 GMT 1, Does anyone know the total % to factor on for the works that have 5% import duty to add onto the hammer? You have to add 5% to the Hammer price + premium to establish the "import" price. For UK you then pay VAT on the premium and add ARR.
If you are overseas the import duty is reclaimable when it is exported from the UK.

You obviously don't live in Scotland, that's exactly what people are doing right now.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Poster Bob on Mar 30, 2021 12:19:57 GMT 1, As I have posted many, many times, these things are in general, of no consequence to seasoned collectors. Look at the Grannies and Toxic Mary that sold at Sotheby's just a couple of weeks ago. "A1, minty-fresh" prints are for your annoying, braggart, stockbroker types. Condition will affect value, but not to the extent that people claim it will, and everything should sell.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Poster Bob on Mar 30, 2021 12:30:32 GMT 1, To opine on every single ridiculous and ill-informed speculation in this thread I'll say this:
1) The auction, as we would define it in terms of the real competition and sale, occurs today. View the current prices as starting bids with the lense that bidding starts in the last hour or so, perhaps even later.
2) Prices cannot keep increasing at this rate forever. You'll probably see record after record for the most iconic images such as GWB and LIITA, but the hammer prices of other prints will fluctuate naturally. No single fluctuation is evidence of a dip, correction, drop in demand or overall falling prices as so many of you think it is. Condition and competition on the day are often disregarded when people make these blanket statements.
3) Given the very sharp increases seen in the last year, I assume that there isn't much more room for huge jumps in price, the exception being images that are still undervalued (Nola for example). Most prints will appreciate YoY in excess of interest rates.
To opine on every single ridiculous and ill-informed speculation in this thread I'll say this:
1) The auction, as we would define it in terms of the real competition and sale, occurs today. View the current prices as starting bids with the lense that bidding starts in the last hour or so, perhaps even later.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Poster Bob on Mar 30, 2021 12:42:25 GMT 1, I didn't call anyone trash. I said that I've seen many ill-informed speculations which is my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Anyone is welcome to criticize what I said, especially if they're informed on auction theory, which I really should spend some time reading about.

We'll see how it goes don't believe the high estimates were helpful, they don't leave much room for bidding anyway.

Christie's Art Auctions , by bob60 on Mar 30, 2021 12:55:28 GMT 1, Or.... things can't quadruple in value every single year or rise with every auction. Weirdly nobody buys a house today expecting to flip it for multiple times of the cost in just a few months indefinitely. You obviously don't live in Scotland, that's exactly what people are doing right now. Absolute bullshit....

Of course "images that are still undervalued" is a moving feast - Nola so far is interesting and I wouldn't have predicted (and it's still to run).

You are correct, as we saw in the last auction with the Grin Reaper AP, the price will be materially below expectation and a substantially below a good or excellent conditioned version.
