Christie's Art Auctions , by Lazarus II on Mar 30, 2021 14:44:49 GMT 1, These countdown timer auctions just have no excitement, people enjoy the thrill of bidding live in a sale, you'll always get better prices when people can actively participate in a sale with an auctioneer, and with the knowledge they are bidding against someone else rather than a computer. this time last year these auctions were the greatest thing since sliced bread for a seller with plenty of buyers participating. I think in one of these style auctions a large number of lots got extended and a good few more than once and no doubt the prices realised helped with the overall increase in value last year.

Christie's Art Auctions , by LJCal on Mar 30, 2021 14:44:55 GMT 1, Same and it's showing price realised when there is still time left and then not letting me bid, same thing happened yersterday at another contemporary sale. Total shit show, Christie's have totally fucked this one, also a valuable lesson of the pitfalls of online auctions and tech fails. I noticed the time left on the main page didn't reflect the time shown when you clicked into the listing. By quite a few minutes as well Yeah, it kept saying extended on the main page and then when you clicked on it was showing as closed.

Should be a good opportunity to buy from seller after then as they will be panicking and you can avoid a bidding war The lot I wanted sold unfortunately, apart from the GWB I think the lots bought in were just too expensive.

Christie's Art Auctions , by chichi carter on Mar 30, 2021 14:49:30 GMT 1, I actually think the system was/is out for part of this auction? I was trying to bid on a number of lots and could not place the lots. Ridiculous Same and it's showing price realised when there is still time left and then not letting me bid, same thing happened yersterday at another contemporary sale. Total shit show, Christie's have totally fucked this one, also a valuable lesson of the pitfalls of online auctions and tech fails. A valuable lesson... an expensive one for the owners who put those prints in this auction. Some of the lots hadn't seen any movement for days before they closed which is odd to say the least considering what we've seen in the past year. I guess a plateau is to be expected at some point but this feels like something else entirely.

Christie's Art Auctions , by jimmyjam on Mar 30, 2021 14:51:26 GMT 1, Well two auctions in a row with auction houses F* things up. Looks like the results could/would have been better if their set ups were done right.
Maybe they need to stop looking at these at instant cash and start actually doing their work in selling these properly. Sellers need to start getting on ALL auction houses before placing works.
I have had some tough times recently with auction houses really messing up with the littlest things that make huge impacts on the result prices.

Christie's Art Auctions , by robo on Mar 30, 2021 14:51:35 GMT 1, I think there was a DDOS attack on Christies.
I saw lots of 404 errors "Request blocked. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error." and "Sorry, we are unable to update the bidding details, please check your connection. We will update the details as soon as the connection is restored."
Have screen grabs - will post.

Christie's Art Auctions , by LJCal on Mar 30, 2021 14:53:17 GMT 1, Looking at the results only a couple of lots were bargains in my view, on average slightly below expectations but not really many steals. Who knows what is going on with the technical issues, I think perhaps different clocks were showing different times depending on which page you were on, hopefully Christie's will provide an answer, needlees to say it must have prejudiced certain lots.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Richy Rich on Mar 30, 2021 14:53:37 GMT 1, I'd be pissed if I was dzigavertov for example who was selling his print from back in the day to only find out there appears to be lots of people who wanted to bid further on items that weren't able to.
I wonder where you'd stand from a legal viewpoint if you decided you weren't willing to sell due to the auction house suffering from apparent technical difficulties?
I reckon Christies might be wading through a few emails this afternoon

Christie's Art Auctions , by Dexter Bulldog on Mar 30, 2021 15:00:27 GMT 1, Prices being shown now on Christie’s are hammer or hammer and bp?
Can’t believe they had such a massive tech glitch with millions in this auction. I’d be upset as a buyer at the buzzer and furious as a seller.
If anyone wouldn’t mind posting the totals please?

Was there condition issue in this unsigned? Gotta imagine someone tried at the buzzer and was denied?

Can’t believe they had such a massive tech glitch with millions in this auction. I’d be upset as a buyer at the buzzer and furious as a seller. If anyone wouldn’t mind posting the totals please? I believe the 'Price Realised' is Hammer + 25% Buyers Premium. VAT, if in the UK, needs to be added to the BP and ARR added to portions of the Hammer price, accordingly.
As for the technical issues some have experienced, it seems Christies have it listed in their Conditions of Sale document:
"C. DURING THE SALE
1. Connectivity and Technical Issues
(a) Broadband or other internet capacity constraints, corporate firewalls and other technical problems beyond our
reasonable control may create difficulties for some users including (but not limited to) accessing sales and
maintaining continuity of such access.
(b) Christie’s will not be responsible to you for errors or failures to execute bids placed on the internet or on your
mobile device, including, without limitation, errors or failures caused by: (i) any loss of connection on
Christie’s or your end to the online-only sale; (ii) a breakdown or problems with the online bidding software;
and/or (iii) a breakdown or problems with any internet connection, computer, mobile device or system.
Execution of online and mobile internet bids is a free service and Christie’s does not accept liability for your
or our failing to access the bidding site or to execute an online or mobile internet bid or for errors or omissions
in connection with this activity. In addition, we will not be responsible for any errors that may occur in the
quality of digital images."
