Christie's Art Auctions , by bdr79 on Mar 30, 2021 15:09:38 GMT 1, What does Price Realised mean? Is that the TOTAL paid by the buyer? No its hammer price + buyers premium only. You have to add VAT to the premium and ARR to get total price to a UK buyer and import duty of 5% on some pieces that have come from outside the UK So using VLH as an example (it was subject to UK VAT, Import Vat and ARR)....
Hammer Price ยฃ75,000 Buyers premium(25%) ยฃ18,750 Import Vat (5% of HP&BP) ยฃ4,687.50 UK Vat (20% of BP) ยฃ3,750 ARR (4%..?) ยฃ3,000 1% top of estimate ยฃ750
Total ยฃ105,937.50
Is that what we are saying total Buyers cost to be?

Christie's Art Auctions , by jp226 on Mar 30, 2021 15:11:33 GMT 1, Disappointing to see a reputable auction house like Christies could drop the ball so hard. I do agree with what others have said about the site --- its a bit wonky.
Between the high estimates and technical issues, this was disastrous for sellers and annoying for a lot of potential buyers.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Balboa on Mar 30, 2021 15:12:18 GMT 1, Prices being shown now on Christieโs are hammer or hammer and bp? Canโt believe they had such a massive tech glitch with millions in this auction. Iโd be upset as a buyer at the buzzer and furious as a seller. If anyone wouldnโt mind posting the totals please? I believe the 'Price Realised' is Hammer + 25% Buyers Premium. VAT, if in the UK, needs to be added to the BP and ARR added to portions of the Hammer price, accordingly. As for the technical issues some have experienced, it seems Christies have it listed in their Conditions of Sale document: "C. DURING THE SALE 1. Connectivity and Technical Issues (a) Broadband or other internet capacity constraints, corporate firewalls and other technical problems beyond our reasonable control may create difficulties for some users including (but not limited to) accessing sales and maintaining continuity of such access. (b) Christieโs will not be responsible to you for errors or failures to execute bids placed on the internet or on your mobile device, including, without limitation, errors or failures caused by: (i) any loss of connection on Christieโs or your end to the online-only sale; (ii) a breakdown or problems with the online bidding software; and/or (iii) a breakdown or problems with any internet connection, computer, mobile device or system. Execution of online and mobile internet bids is a free service and Christieโs does not accept liability for your or our failing to access the bidding site or to execute an online or mobile internet bid or for errors or omissions in connection with this activity. In addition, we will not be responsible for any errors that may occur in the quality of digital images." I would certainly argue point 1 a) that it was in their control. My system works fine.

Christie's Art Auctions , by dzigavertov on Mar 30, 2021 15:23:24 GMT 1, I have mixed emotions here. Mine met the minimum estimate, just, with only two bids. I am delighted that something I paid 75 quid for has made me a 5 figure sum....I'd be a right t**t to be disappointed with that...but something seems to have gone awry here. Maybe I just fell for Christie's patter but was told that my print would probably beat the upper estimate of 50k....it went for 30k. OK there were no guarantees, but what with all the posters on here saying there technical problems throughout, I can't help feel a sense of being let down by Christie's. But hey, no need to buy Banks(y) bitter right now, gimme one of those rip off IPAs in each hand....I can afford it now FFS

I'd be absolutely furious. Money is money and while Christies can afford to absorb a loss I'm guessing you could use the extra cash.

I believe the 1% top of estimate only applies for Sotheby's. The 1% extra is a sellers fee for meeting the high estimate, so would not be on top of the price.
Christies have this fee

No. It's about not being able to bid them up. Exactly - a DDOS attack means the site was effectively closed to bids by external actors.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Reader on Mar 30, 2021 16:03:51 GMT 1, I'd be absolutely furious. Money is money and while Christies can afford to absorb a loss I'm guessing you could use the extra cash. By the looks of their terms and conditions there is nowt I could do anyway Nah mate, you're right with the first attitude, you've done really well, congrats for getting in early, don't let the "greed" twist it, enjoy it, huge result holding on to it for so long. Crack open the champagne fella !
