I'd be surprised if 25 canvases were made of the diptych version.

I'm sure it's no co-incidence that it goes to auction a day after the Love Is In The Bin hammers at Sotheby's

Christie's Art Auctions , by JFCC on Mar 3, 2022 11:23:56 GMT 1, It's a really well constructed catalogue, unlike the Bonhams one today which has too many items most of which is pretty random!
However, I would probably have thought that the CYW Gold VIP, CYW, signed GWB, Banksquiat and CWSB would have been better in a higher value auction? Personally I'd have thought those are going to be so far ahead of the other items in value that they will be held back by the comparative lack of "money" in the room. GWB is likely to get to ยฃ0.5m where as some pieces will be ยฃ1-5k? Just a view!
It will also be interesting to see what Banksquait makes being sold with Pest Controls blessing!

The big Auction Houses only sell verified Banksyโs works and they note that it will be sold with a new COA from Pest Control.
On Banksquait they state it has been authenticated by PC but there will be a slight delay in receiving a COA for GDP items.

CYW Grey seems to be selling all up at between ยฃ120k-130k. So youโd probably get ยฃ100k back from an auction up to ยฃ110k privately. But who knows what will happen with this one!!!

Christie's Art Auctions , by STP on Mar 4, 2022 10:34:17 GMT 1, Love that Morons (outside the edition). Says a gift, would this have a PC? Spend your money on an editioned example This impression of Morons is 'outside of the edition' of approximately thirty artist's proofs, which features different detailing around the canvas and on some of the figures. These 'brushwork' elements were applied using an alternate screen in the screenprinting process, that was not used in the published edition.
The small edition of artist's proofs were printed in varying colourways, and this impression outside of the edition has a subtly different warm brown colour scheme to the sepia tones used in the main edition.
This lot is offered with the new Certificate of Authenticity from Pest Control.

Looks like the auctioneer, the other staff members, and all of the attendees decided to take part in a very civilised dirty protest.
They may have been inspired by the scatological theme of the painting for sale.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Fuzzyduck121 on Mar 7, 2022 9:26:48 GMT 1, Updated wording on the Banksquiat
โThis lot has been authenticated by Pest Control. Please note there will be a slight delay from Pest Control in issuing the Certificate of Authenticity for works sold through Gross Domestic Product. The CoA will be sent to the buyer in due course.โ
This does mean that itโs been sold at a major house with no COA in hand I assume this means that PC have guaranteed the authenticity with Christieโs but have advised that the cert will be forthcoming but theyโve OKโd the sale in essence. Interesting I assume they are still not finalised on the new wording for the Certs but I donโt think a Banksy has been sold without a physical certificate in recent times and just with some sort of agreement with PC has it ?

This is nothing new in this other than its a GDP piece of work and here is a little bit more of a delay.
The main Auction houses have very good relationships with Pest Control who fast track both the authentication and the certificate production, that said they still can take a couple of months to come through.
The key points from the statement are "authenticated" and "The CoA will be sent to the buyer in due course.โ Clearly Pest Control are comfortable that suggested holding period for GDP pieces has expired.
The 4 Banksquaits and 3 Throwers sold by Tate Ward were not authenticated by Pest Control.

As must TW be for underwriting the fallout from a lack of supply of the PC in due course I would be very surprised if there was a problem as I doubt Pest Control would want to penalise individuals who purchased the items, I am sure they will just be less willing to help the Auction house in the future. Whichever way you look at it it's fairly disreputable behaviour from TW.
I would hazard a guess that TW are not underwriting the COA position as that would be a pretty big exposure unless they could pass it back to the buyer, who will probably have spent the money already!!

TW have indeed issued in writing guarantees to GDP item buyers that if the PC isnโt forthcoming within 2 years of their purchase they will personally refund the purchase price plus expenses

Thanks for that update, if they have then thatโs pretty magnanimous of them. Thereโs is no more they could possibly do, assuming theyโve seen all the ownership audit trail and invoices etc. Certainly they cannot be held accountable for lost profits as the buyer has been fully made aware of the risks!
