The person that paid that much for an unsigned Morons really needs to think about the wording that appears on that particular print.
It's not even the MM version with the gold frame, for crying out loud.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by avec art on Sept 11, 2019 14:38:44 GMT 1, not if the sellers have any sense, and they discover how much commission and additional charges Sothebys take. I know I know, they don't if you stand your ground and you have something serious to offer. But I don't think (at least at this stage) Sothebys are going to be giving out any sort of preferential treatment just because someone has an unsigned Banksy print they want to sell.

I'm not trying to correct you, and you sound like you know the percentages about what the seller receives after the sale, but I think you've missed out on all sort of other preliminary charges. Photography fees, listing and publishing costs if you're going to be featured in a magazine and possibly others.

Very well taken, and totally agree - 52% bid-ask spread plus accessory fees (fees are trading costs, not spread components, exactly like in any other market - but yes, in this case they are large).

im sure words to that effect were uttered years ago for most of his prints. Plenty threads on here about ludicrous asking prices 10 years ago etc.

The point is that this auction buyer overpaid considerably in today's market, not speculating on what the print might be worth in 10 years time.

There are a few unsigned Banksy prints that warrant paying more that £12k, GWRB being the most notable. Older prints like Laugh Now, Rude Copper and Barcode are also rightly more valuable.
Morons (especially the POW version) ain't nowhere near that bracket yet IMHO. The sucker that shelled out that much, in today's market, should spend a few minutes brousing that well known online auction site.

I’d imagine that if you offered £12k on here for one, someone would oblige.
