Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by singerstu on Sept 6, 2020 14:16:26 GMT 1, I know the current owner of the Girl with Balloon & she is as sound as a pound, an NHS worker, it will certainly be a life changing moment for her & her family when it sells next week, she purchased the print back in the day because she loved it, she is not a collector, just someone who can't afford to insure it or store it in a vault. Well she's about to be ยฃ250k better off. I wonder if that dark line around the print from the previous frame will affect the price, in auctions it does not seem to matter.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by JockoLad on Sept 6, 2020 16:44:40 GMT 1, Having been a member on here for an age stories like the one above are what keep me coming back.
So many times now I have read of people cashing in and experiencing huge changes (for the better) to their lives. If I were Banksy Iโd be delighted to see the impact that my work has had on the lives of โordinaryโ people.
I love being part of this wave and if it were to all coming crashing down tomorrow (I really hope it wonโt), I will have so many stories to tell.
I donโt talk to anyone else about my small-time art collecting but recently dropped into conversation with close friends that a few of the prints Iโd bought a while ago weโre currently doing well at auction. My friends were buzzing to hear about it and are now all over the forum and asking for buying tips - not that I ever have any to give.
Iโm a primary school teacher. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would find myself in a situation like this. Long may it continue...
And hopefully my mortgage will be paid off sooner rather later ๐

It's a shame in a decade most of the iconic B prints will be stored in collectors folders rather than talking pieces above fireplaces in terraced houses, but the burden of ownership is just too much for some. Good for you man I hope your pieces give you great pleasure.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by saint on Sept 9, 2020 16:22:50 GMT 1, Out of interest, does anyone actually like the bright colour rain editions of NOLA, or the multi colour editions? I've always found them a bit odd looking, and I like bright colours. Its like toxic rain or something, and IMO detracts from the meaning of the image and the location of the original piece....
edit- aside from those that own one of course, I'm sure you like them.

Feeling absurdly invested in the success of the GWAB, knowing it's owned by an NHS worker.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by urbanflik on Sept 9, 2020 18:49:21 GMT 1, Where do people see prices going? Its getting serious cash now and no doubt many will be thinking of maybe cashing in. Will we see similar rises in the next six months?
What with Covid not appearing to let up I suspect things will keep climbing as people try and find better investment vehicles. Although there are people struggling there are also people with a lot of cash swilling about as no ones spending on retail etc
I donโt think further climbs this year are actually good for the long term market myself even though Iโm selling right now.
What with Netflix coming too things might go nuclear!

Will we see similar rises in the next six months? i think it'll crash by this time next year; maybe sooner depending on certain elections and their effect on certain economies. i think the number of banksy print auctions this summer is suspicious, almost like insiders know something. and the extreme rise in prices in the last 6 months during a global health and economic crisis is curious, to say the least.
i also think this because i'm a die-hard decades-long banksy fan and collector in a financial position to buy many of these things, and even i am passing.
almost everyone on this forum will disagree. time will tell.

What i find strange is I'm not seeing this surge in other artists, which I would have expected if invested is the reason behind it all. Could I ask if you think prices are going to crash, would now not be a good time to sell?
Which many are taking up the opportunity Whilst the artist is alive there will be many up and downs
The serious money is in the long haul When the artist is deceased , something to leave behind for the kids or grandkids ๐

i own banksys. i would never sell, especially now in case i'm wrong and i can't get my artwork back. i also don't really have any interest in "cashing out" at all, since i bought the art to keep/hang forever and am not financially strained.
i would also never buy right now. i would really never buy anything after it has increased in price 200-300% in less than a year; that almost always isn't a good idea.

I would say this is true if auctions were loaded with originals. But itโs been a bunch of prints. Virtually nothing interesting in terms of OGs and where the big money is.
