And when people do declare their gains, what's stopping you claiming you bought the print for 20k rather than the 50 quid you actually got it for to lessen the amount owed in tax? Do you have to provide proof of purchase when you declare a capital gain?

No, thatโs not right. On your combined income youโd pay 10% on a 30k gain less your allowances. CGT moves up to 20% for the amount your gain takes you into the higher rate tax bracket. So your CGT liability would be approximately ยฃ500 provided this was your only gain in the year.
If you want to DM Iโll happily run some accurate figures in strictest confidence.

There are lots of legal methods to reduce tax, offshore, there are also payments in btc .. but youโll pay tax on any profits on that too. and if you pay cash ?

For clarity, I'm aware IHT and CGT are different But it's the double-taxation I meant by 'same deal' = ie in both cases the money is taxed at source, then taxed a second time. My point was that we live in a society with a myriad of taxes. The governmentโs income has to come from somewhere. If one is scrapped something else has to be increased or a new tax has to be introduced.

So apparently it isn't a case of large deposits triggering a communication between your bank and HMRC, rather HMRC has a sophisticated software known as Connect that analyses various metrics, including changes in interest being paid to accounts, and even online behaviour. So watch out UAA!

That means if you sell a print for ยฃ50k profit as a couple of higher rate payers youโll only pay ยฃ5,200 tax.

You have to prove purchase price if asked. Thatโs a myth, HMRC are not informed of any threshold of deposit. There are AML laws surrounding large cash deposits but even these donโt have thresholds as such. As another user posted they have super computers that track a large amount of data to throw up red flags for evasion. |

NatWest are due in court for allowing someone to deposit over ยฃ260million in cash into their bank account over a 5 year period and failing to flag it as potential money laundering. The bank account holder is not being charged with anything (Iโm guessing they disappeared long ago).

Art and streetart should be free as freedom ! Politics should stay together drinking champagne and leave us alone ! I refuse to pay tax fit art, Iโm an artist too, governments never helped me nor paid my paint pots ! I'm not even going to get into this. Just pay your taxes like every grown-up adult does.

I loved art since my childhood and collect since my childhood, and it' a challende ( or a bit of luck ) when i have something happening out my dreams..
We are not at school, nor at the police, and we all know what and how big trust etc avoid paying taxes. Politic is all that and money.
