I have just dealt with the Brownhill group in the UK and they were fantastic. I cant recommend them enough.

My previous insurers wanted monthly valautions to show the increase in values which i then had supply to the underwriters etc and what a pain in the backside.

Brownhills are very knowledgeable, helpful and professional. They tailored a solution for my collection and it allows increases in value and also allows me to increase my collection size without the need to inform them (upto 25%)

In summary a pleasure to deal with, no headache and i can now sleep at night knowing i have a full and up to date policy

Just to echo Porkie's post, I found Brownhills great to deal with. Policies can also cover art in storage and during transit - which helps if you're buying something from abroad.

If the policy is just for the jewelery and art, your 1.6% a year of value isn’t too far fetched. I believe you tend to get better deals when it’s an add on policy but I’m in the US so it may differ.

So in that case your actually paying for more coverage than you’d need so not as great of a deal.

You can always add it to your home insurance policy. That might save you some money and give you excellent coverage

I noticed on Hiscox that they don't require you to itemise your art? That seems a bit strange to me, I guess if something unfortunate happened they would just allow you to show a receipt of the piece you purchased?

How does it work, or can you take photos? I don't have receipts for everything I've bought.

Copy every paypal transactions of your email inbox, take pictures of your art, put this in a folder and save this folder on USB key.

I use hiscox. They seem very knowledgeable and competent.

Off the top of my head. I think they have 2 options.
1) a collection worth up to 50k
2) a collection worth over 100k
Someone can correct me on the exact figures.

Think it cost me about £250 for a collection up to 100k. They also include an incremental increase due to price rices as well

I have my household insurance with Halifax and they seem more than happy to work together. Which not many other insurance companies did

I use Hiscox via Brownhill Insurance and they have been very good. Although i've not made a claim yet.

I just upped my policy as it's over £100k and costs me £350 a year, which can be paid monthly.

The main guy (i forget his name) at Brownhill set it up as they purchased some art and thought it would be a good market to get into, so they understand it well.

I still have my household insurance with someone else, but for the art its Brownhill and Hiscox. I send through a spreadsheet of the works and their values and keep photos and the spreadsheet of everything on Google Drive in the cloud.

Fingers crossed i'll never have to make a claim but the worst case scenario is that the house burns down and everything goes up in smoke, but at least i'll be covered for that.
