HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Mark on Nov 20, 2020 13:07:29 GMT 1, This is great news I can't wait, went to the one in Amsterdam a few years ago and it was excellent.
It's just a shame Banksy can't arrange these type of exhibitions, I'm sure all the causes he supports would benefit from the money.
No doubt he'll moan about the unauthorised exhibition, but why moan about something if you don't try and arrange something yourself, there's plenty of fans that just want to see his work, and sadly there's not many places where you can.

Well Banksy or pest control could organise these type of exhibitions but they choose not to so fans are forced to go to the unauthorised exhibitions.

Why not just put on the shows yourself if you get so upset about unauthorised shows.

Nope, you don't have to, but thousands of people want to see his work, so there is no other option than to attend.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Mark on Nov 20, 2020 13:25:00 GMT 1, Well if you admire my his work and want to see it, where do you go to see it? Well, correct if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a whole store organised for anyone to see for free in the middle of London? Did you go there?
I did indeed, and I also attended Dismaland (which wasn't free), and whilst they helped the local economy, and brought in thousands of people to the area, none of these shows really showcased a huge ammount of his work or the recognisable pieces people love to see.
But GDP was some time ago, small, and a very limited showcase, and before that, there was nothing for many years.
Pest Control no doubt have a huge amount of his work in their collection, so if they get so upset and annoyed at these shows, why not just run one themselves, a bigger more elaborate one, help out an area in dire need of some footfall, generate some revenue for a good cause, and keep the fans happy.
It would also put these type of unauthorised shows out of business!
You can't really complain about something if you have the power to do something yourself, but refuse to do anything about it.

Did you not go to the Walled Off Hotel? Lots of quality new work there. Much rather he concentrated on new projects like Dismaland, GDP etc rather than a retrospective type gallery show.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Majestic on Nov 20, 2020 13:48:23 GMT 1, Said this in another thread but I'll repeat the same sentiment..
I appreciate these unauthorised exhibitions aren't for everyone, but not all folk will get the opportunity to see so many works under one roof.
I visited the moco museum whilst over in Amsterdam and had a brilliant time.
Will probably head down to this too ๐

I had planned to, but it's currently closed, and to be honest, for most, it's an unachievable trip given the distance and costs involved. But although the WOH have lots of his work, most is placed in the bedrooms, which unless you're staying there, would be impossible to see.
Whilst GDP and Dismaland are great, fans want to see his older work, it's just the way it is! Pieces that are recognisable and which are the reason why they fell in love with his work. Nothing wrong with wanting to see older pieces.
In all honesty, I think he loves these unauthorised shows, they bring him so much free PR and no doubt it does wonders for increasing the value of his work. He should be overwhelmed with the number of people who actually want to go and see his older work, not hold a grudge.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Mark on Nov 20, 2020 14:03:45 GMT 1, Well if you admire my his work and want to see it, where do you go to see it? Why not just put on the shows yourself if you get so upset about unauthorised shows. Why should he? I don't think he gets upset about unauthorised shows? More pissed off about being misrepresented by them. ยฃ20 odd quid a ticket is shit loads to go and see a few pictures. Dismaland entrance was what ยฃ3.00? and it was a little bit more than a room with a few pics. I don't have an issue, give people a choice. just don't lie about what it is
He shouldn't, but he gives fans no option other than to attend, if you don't go, all you see is pictures on social media. If you want to see a large volume of his work, it's the best place to go.
I don't think they lie, it's clearly unauthorised and any Banksy fan would know that by the way the exhibition is displayed.
Yes, give people a choice, come to an unauthorised show, or a real Banksy show, which sadly doesn't exist at the moment, and I doubt there will be a show anytime soon.
I'm not here to arguee with anyone, but I bet 99% of the forum members attend, even if they claim its unethocal :-)
ยฃ20 isn't a huge amount to be honest, Dismaland was ยฃ5 per ticket and didn't really have a huge amount of his own work, plenty by other artists, but if you paid ยฃ5 to see lots of Banksy work at Dismaland, then tyou would have been hugely disappointed.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Carl Cashman Art on Nov 20, 2020 15:58:14 GMT 1, Well, nobody is forcing anyone to go anywhere, are they? You could also argue that real fans wouldn't attend events like these.... Well if you admire my his work and want to see it, where do you go to see it? Why not just put on the shows yourself if you get so upset about unauthorised shows. The time that goes into something like this, he may aswell plan his next event. You know, like dismaland and The Walled off. Do any other artists put on retrospective shows every year ?
You could go to any gallery or auction house selling on the secondary market and see old work for free.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by Lazarus II on Nov 20, 2020 16:15:03 GMT 1, Why should he? I don't think he gets upset about unauthorised shows? More pissed off about being misrepresented by them.ย ยฃ20 odd quid a ticket is shit loads to go and see a few pictures.
ยฃ20 isn't a huge amount to be honest, Dismaland was ยฃ5 per ticket and didn't really have a huge amount of his own work, plenty by other artists, but if you paid ยฃ5 to see lots of Banksy work at Dismaland, then tyou would have been hugely disappointed.
there were masses of Banksy works on display everywhere you looked at Dismaland, granted there werent too many prints.

HUGE BANKSY EXHIBITION HEADS FOR LONDON IN SPRING 2021, by hnkpnk on Nov 20, 2020 16:51:38 GMT 1, I'm too interested in Banksy to not see these exhibitions when I can. The ones I've seen has been very well put together and with lots of originals and prints. Moco Amsterdam and the Laz curated one in Gothenburg (which I believe is more or less the same as the one coming to London) were very good. The one in Malaga had lots of facts wrong but still had several good prints and originals.
But the quality differs a lot. I've seen photos from the current one in Barcelona and it's all just copies on the walls of street work and some forged prints and originals. Terrible.
I choose to take Banksys comment as to be aware that they are unofficial and not believe everything or buy anything from them, not that they should be boycotted.
"Members of the public should be aware there has been a recent spate of Banksy exhibitions none of which are consensual. Theyโve been organised entirely without the artist's knowledge or involvement. Please treat them accordingly."

Edit: But I've also been to GDP, WOH, Dismaland, BOTI, Bristol Museum and more...
