It's kind of arbitrary what value is attached to artwork. Say for instance Pejac's Linea, I'd say that's worth $800, but has achieved a bit higher.

I would be careful buying for someone else. Read up on the Hirst edition thread, apparently Heni would go full "excommunicado" on you if you do

do you really think a forumiteβs chance to buy one would be bigger if I pass instead of my naive idea?

I just don't get it, when I return from a holiday I have a bunch of failed digital photo's that look like this, so really curious what makes you pay a lot of money for something like this.

Gerhard Richter π©πͺ Abstract β’ Contemporary Art β’ New Relea, by Express Post on Jul 9, 2018 20:31:14 GMT 1, This particular piece reminds me of my camping trips. Good times.
He's going for that blurred look.
"I blur things to make everything equally important and equally unimportant. I blur things so that they do not look artistic or craftsmanlike but technological, smooth and perfect. I blur things to make all the parts a closer fit. Perhaps I also blur out the excess of unimportant information." - GR, 1964-1965
Not the best painter, still Team Freud, but he is part of art history now. Get on board.

Gerhard Richter π©πͺ Abstract β’ Contemporary Art β’ New Relea, by Express Post on Jul 10, 2018 4:49:07 GMT 1, It's art. There is no right or wrong. His stuff makes sense when you put all his work in the one gallery and view them side by side.
All spoken for, bar a few undecideds, so there is enough desire out there to sell this edition out. Plus the scale and edition size made this a good buy. This flew under the radar while the rest of the world got Hirst fever.

I find these comments so strange on an art forum Pollock is Just splashes of paint, Mondrian is just lines on a canvas and Warhol just printed images of cans of soup Whatβs your point?
Richter is and will be remembered and collected in the absolutely highest echelons of artists of our time
This release is a significantly large item with a relatively small edition size of his most important style
All art can be questioned on such a base level of I donβt get it or I could do that but I hope this forum is better than that
As said above whilst everyone clambers for yet more items pumped out of the hirst brand these drifted under their noses Horses for courses as ever

Gerhard Richter π©πͺ Abstract β’ Contemporary Art β’ New Relea, by mojo on Jul 10, 2018 18:01:50 GMT 1, I don't get this print either? What makes it so desirable? It's just a blurry image? Gerhard Richter is Internationally recognised as one of the world's leading contemporary artists. Born in Dresden in 1932, his mature work dates from 1962 when he made his first 'Photo Pictures': paintings based on photographs selected from newspapers, magazines and later family albums. From the mid 1960's he also began to explore other styles, including abstract painting as well as a range of media.
He is very highly revered by both photographers and oil painters alike and has influenced many neophyte artists from both disciplines. The technical aspect of Richter's photographically-derived paintings that has generated most comment has been the 'blurring' of the original image when translated into paint. Richter explains, 'I blur things to make all the parts a closer fit and to blur out the excess of unimportant information'.
In 2009 many of his portraits were exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery in London.
*I studied his work about 20 years ago as part of a photography course and am currently studying both Gerhard Richter & Edward Hopper as part of an oil painting course.
I shan't be buying one simply because I don't feel the need to own art to appreciate art ....and I don't have a spare 4500 grand.
It's all about technique innit, d'ya get it now?
