Including several new series of experimental drawings, this exhibition – Richter’s first presentation in a major London gallery in a decade – brings together more than 60 works on paper made between 1999 and 2021.
Alongside drawings in pencil and charcoal, and a series of over-painted photographs, a set of rarely-seen painterly works created using coloured inks are featured in the show.
In these works, the fluidity and unpredictability of the pools of ink, in some cases reaching right to the edges of the paper, are counterbalanced by structures of linear graphite markings.
Inks and watercolour have played an important role in the development of Richter’s paintings.
His earliest known works, a series of monotypes titled Elbe made in 1957, were the result of experimentation with the fluid nature of ink on paper.
Gerhard Richter (b. 1932 in Dresden) is regarded as one of the most important and influential painters working today.
His pioneering painting practice over the past six decades has gained him wide international acclaim and numerous prestigious awards, including the Golden Lion of the 47th Venice Biennale.
Richter’s paintings have been exhibited extensively across the globe, with recent solo exhibitions at institutions including the Met Breuer, New York (2020); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2017); and Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Australia (2017).

“The Cage paintings were conceived as a single coherent group, and displayed for the first time at the Venice Biennale in 2007. Their titles, Cage (1) (6), pay homage to the American avant- garde composer John Cage (1912 92). In his Lecture on Nothing , Cage famously declared I have nothing to say and I m saying it . Richter is equally suspicious of ideologies and any claim to absolute truth. What's the going rate for 6? (i got one). I know it previously fetched the highest results.

didnt see it but sounds like 34k was hammer, + 25% = 42.5

i really dont think 1 > 6 .. personal opinion but i hadnt seen any data to support this either
