Who had the illuminated globe, by graeme on Dec 14, 2020 21:36:45 GMT 1, I couldn’t find a category to post this in so......
A while ago, I saw a post on here by a forum member who had refurbished a floor standing illuminated globe. They posted some pictures of it on a thread.
I can’t find it or remember where it was I saw it, and I’m hoping that someone here also remembers the post and can point me in the direction.
Thanks

Thanks for responding.
I was looking for something similar, either as a project or completed, and remembered your post, but couldn't find it again. Wanted to revisit it for inspiration and the globe model you refurbished
Still looks a lovely piece of furniture.

Thanks man. I had a lot of fun bringing it back to life. There’s something really satisfying about fixing and refinishing furniture pieces that are 50+ years old. The thought that the piece was in a living room, office etc for almost 60 years before I got my hands on it is really cool for some reason.
Here’s a couple pics of the latest piece I’ve redone. It’s a vintage early 60’s German plant table. Bought it in really bad shape from a seller in Denmark. First time I’ve tried this paprika colored stain. Used it on the legs and center post and absolutely love the color. The faux gold trim took some work to make it flow and curve properly.
Had to find new legs as the ones it came with were too far gone and too small imo. Found these vintage mid century legs online and they worked perfectly. Pics really don’t do this one justice. It’s really big and came out amazing. If you have any questions about restoring/refinishing don’t hesitate to reach out.

Do you also have a "before" picture? Looks really nice

Who had the illuminated globe, by Charlie Bronson on Dec 15, 2020 18:47:06 GMT 1, puritog ....thanks. I don’t think I took any before pics tbh. I looked for some and couldn’t find any. The condition was similar to the one I restored below; broken trim, pieces snapped in half etc. Amazing what a bit of sanding, some new legs and trim, and some stain can do to a piece. I really am a novice at this shit. Hoping to get better as I go.
If you have a desire to do woodwork, furniture restoration etc you really should go for it. I went in blind and learned from watching some YouTube videos.

Thanks, dunkers. I source them from a bunch of different places. Etsy is a great tool. I got a few local ones off eBay. Also, there are a ton of mid century furniture forums that I frequent.
Designaddict is a great resource as is myfurnitureforum. Also, I just google “mid century plant table” every couple of days. A lot that come up are in good shape and the price reflects it. Every now and then I’ll find some that are in bad shape and I’ll be able to grab them for a couple hundred bucks. The shipping quote is always the issue.
