The assumption being that there is something that they want to keep hidden, they're unprofessional, inexperienced, incompetent, or all four.

It was shipped NYC to HK without any problems.
Always pack it super well though to be safe.

It arrived in a week in absolutely perfect condition.

Looking to ask someone who has experience of doing this for some advice: I am looking to ship a print, declared value of $10k, from the US to the UK. The shipping company is saying I need an EIN as the value is over $2500, but I am an individual not a company and I'm shipping as a private citizen. It seems insane to create an EIN just to ship one piece of art.
Anyone have any advice for me?

Maybe double check with your home insurance provider. I called my insurers (Hiscox) to add the item to the home contents policy and queries if/when it would be insured, noting that whilst I had paid and the item was legally mine, it was not then at my home address. In the end, their underwriter agreed to cover the item from the point of sale. Their logic was that if I had gone to collect the item myself, bring it home and then taking for framing, this probably carried greater risk than the professionals doing it.
