From Fedex customer services, maximum insured value of a parcel is 1k$ but the set is worth 30k... Also waiting from Flight Logistics feedback. How are people dealing with this nowadays ? Any other recommandations ? Or maybe recommandations about 3rd party shipping insurances

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by soupy on Dec 10, 2020 22:38:11 GMT 1, never shipped something of that value... but i know you will need an EIN number (prior to shipping) in order to export anything valued over $2.5K. you can apply for one online via IRS website. in addition, you need an AES ITN number which is the customs/export tracking system. check with DHL as i think some carriers can take care of the AES ITN process for you if you fill out a form (US shippers letter of instruction) that has all the pieces of information they need. not sure what the max value is for the individual carriers though. at the bottom o fthe "required documents" link below (2nd URL).... there is a form to fill out to talk to a DHL certified international shipping specialist

The pieces were super well packaged and secure, they dealt with customs etc - absolutely first rate. I insured them through my household/art policy with Chubb.
Flight Logistics are equally brilliant but I have not used them from the USA.

Wanted to mention Fragilistics here in the UK?
I bought a framed piece from a gallery in that London Town, wanted it delivering to me here in Shropshire.
The Gallery gave me a quote, and after I explained that I hadn't just fallen out of a tree, said I would sort this.
Have dealt with Fragilistics before when Mister Frame Man has framed items for me, he uses them.
Had a quote (very reasonable) from them, and then they basically sorted everything. They collected last Saturday after liaising with the gallery, had a narrow collection window, but all good, they then safely delivered to me yesterday.
The service was brilliant, communication excellent, and the systems they have in place to advise on delivery times etc, first rate. Even notified me when the driver (nice fella) was an hour away.
I would certainly recommend them if you are thinking of shipping anything 'fragile' around the UK, cant rate them highly enough.

I had three quotes
Sotheby's - $1500 plus $151 insurance
Flight Logistics - £920 plus £185 insurance
British Shop - £1390 plus £206 insurance
My domestic art policy covers art in transit when packed and transported by a recognised carrier so I was able to deduct insurance from all quotes. Using a dollar price of £1 = £1.32 as it was at that point, the quotes looked like this...
Sotheby's £ 1136
Flight Logistics £920
British Shop £1390
So I went for Flight Logistics and the service was fabulous. Seamless integration with Sotheby's, great communications and - given Covid etc - a speedy delivery. The packing was first class... I'll try to post some pics... and paperwork very simple. FL handled customs for me which I simply paid direct (5% as it should be, none of that paying more and trying to claim back business).
So, all in all, very pleased and happy to have gone through the process as an exercise. Hope it helps.

The buyer should always be made whole. They either receive the purchased piece or their money back. It's the sellers responsibility to make the buyer financially whole. Unless another deal has been agreed upon.
Insurance would cover your potential financial loss as a seller.

Especially if your insurance is $1,200 ... the insurance value must be in the mid to high 5 figures ...
At the end of the day it's a small price to pay for peace of mind ... and when you see the delivery folks throwing your precious art around

If you're selling stuff you should factor the cost of insurance into the shipping costs you charge.
