Anyone have any experience with this? Are boxes the best with bubble wrap? Is acid free paper a good idea?
Cheers.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by tommyb on Jun 17, 2013 13:09:30 GMT 1, I once recieved a canvas from Upfest gallery, when it arrived the box had a big gash in the front, upon opening it I found the canvas had been saved by a piece of plastic plexi they had attached to the front of the canvas after wrapping it in tissue paper, I would maybe ask them what the plastic stuff they use is as it really did save the piece as the plastic was all cracked where the gash was. Better safe then sorry, some of these couriers really have no grasp of the term "fragile".

I sent a canvas through parcel force before i started using the above method, and it came back to me looking like it had been used as a football and run over with a tank... the actual wooden frame had completely cracked. God knows how they managed so much damage, but there's not much that would have withstood the battering that took.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by mikehaspey on Nov 3, 2013 19:18:32 GMT 1, Hi all
I'm UK based and need to send a canvas to Canada. It's going to be about 90x90x10 when all packed up. With a value of just under £1000 I obviously want to make sure it gets there safely and is fully insured. I looked on parcel2go and they are prohibited over £250 value, on interparcel they will ship them but they are a 'no compensation' item. So neither of them are sounding any good. Anybody have any ideas who I could use to send it?
Cheers

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by chaturz on Sept 4, 2014 15:20:51 GMT 1, So I was looking at shipping a tube via Royal Mail (clearly been a long time since I've had to do this) and was informed if a tube is longer than 45cm it's considered a large parcel and has to be sent via parcelforce which sends postage cost to £30 + within the UK!!!
hermes looks like great value but only seem to insure up to £250
ups + FedEx are again £37 +
this leaves going via services like parcel monkey and sending via city link but issues with having to wait around all day for a courier
so who does everyone use for uk postal services with tubes? Anyone to avoid?

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by stradled on Sept 4, 2014 16:56:06 GMT 1, There are specifics for tubes, which if followed mean you avoid parcel force
... See here :
m.royalmail.com/mt/www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/Tell-me-about-size-and-weight-formats
For rolled and cylinder shaped items, the length of the item plus twice the diameter must not exceed 104cm, with the greatest dimension being no more than 90cm. Rolled and cylinder shaped parcels that measure up to 45cm in length and 8cm in diameter and do not exceed 2kg can be sent as small parcels.
Hope that helps
